Anybody Seeing Depth Issues With The Manticore Update?

Recommended Posts

My depth seems ok, but the update does have a bug in regard to how it affects the audio theme sounds. Turning on the stabilizer causes odd results depending on which theme you are using. I have mostly been using enhanced and it doubles in volume and seems to loose the "enhanced" part of the sound.

The resulting sound from the stabilizer filter is so annoying that by itself the sound will keep me from using it.

I took mine in the back yard day before yesterday, on a very deep quarter it was banging it on 20 sensitivity AT-HC. I compared with my 800 also on 20 sensitivity Park1 and the Manticore seemed to hit the clad quarter somewhat better. I could get the coil a little bit higher off the ground with the Manticore. So I guess my update went fine.

the relationship between detector, ground and targets is  always a tradeoff.  when you change how the machine reponds to iron, tihis  affects how it responds to alloys.  The relationship between iron, ground  and targets is an alloy in effect. just as when the F2 was added to the NOX there is  a downside in how the machine reaches down into mineralized ground.  overalll, the update looks good and if you chose to work with the whole detector (instead of looking for quick push button fixes) a way can  be found to balance out these effects.

I thought the stabilizer settings also sounded "wonky" in the particular audio theme I like.  I'm not sure if that's part of the sound or a bug.  I lean towards it being part of the sound because when I increase stabilizer, it gets worse.

I however, haven't noticed a depth loss.  I was actually thinking the opposite.  I dug a clad quarter last week that was around 10 inches deep that gave great ID.  Had me fooled for sure...I saw a green patina on a large disc and just knew I had something special.  Robbed!

My Manticore is considerably less deep than my 900. Even with the stabilizer off. It sucks because I really can't use it until I get a fix.

No issues with the update or Manticore.  You know, I look at it this way.  You have a Ferrari,  a specialist vehicle.  You can run it at full potential,  but do you?   There's a time and place for that.  Most times now I run it like I ran my Nox.  Around 25% power.

Same thing I noticed with Equinox.   Cut sensitivity or power back to legal road speed and Shazam!

Same detection abilities,  less falsing.

The only thing that I've noticed.... coins on edge get missed running between 10 and 15.  If I'm shooting for silver coins, full speed ahead.

Coins on edge equate to a smaller target, hence the need for higher gain.  It could be a benefit to the higher gain settings on the 900 and Manticore if in clear EMI areas and mild enough soils to run the gain right up high, may end up popping a few missed on edge coins, especially the smaller silvers.

This does not match the Minelab website:

Manticore

"More Power, More Depth, More Finds"...

If you have to reduce the sensitivity to 25% in order to work, you are missing targets.

Something is wrong...

User preference, I can run mine 35 out of 35 if I want to in some locations and it runs pretty stable considering, I've found 20 my sweet spot out of 35 in most cases as it gives the best target ID's with the new update, anymore and EMI and possibly the ground can interfere with the stability of ID's.

Low end detectors tend to be wound back so they run stable even at maximum sensitivity, detectors like the Manticore, Axiom, possibly the Legend (I've never used it) allow you to go well above stable sensitivity settings so in the odd occasion you can use it you can really crank it up.  If a detector runs perfectly stable at maximum sensitivity I'm more concerned then I am missing targets than if it runs wild at maximum sensitivity.

I think 25% of sensitivity is too low, and I wouldn't run that low, but running the Manticore at 16 out of 35 gives great depth I think Equal to the Equinox, and very stable operation.
