  1. Things look to be over for White’s, as dealers and distributors either liquidate stock, or in the case of some dealers, shut down permanently. White’s has been lining up service options for their customers. These are the latest officially designated places to have warranty work and service done. I have added them to the service thread pinned at top of page. 2. Coil ears don’t break... people break coil ears. Seems like nearly all the breakage reports are from surf users.
  3. It’s all been covered on the forum but the battery system overhaul is the biggie in that it needs a redesigned upper handle and new tooling to make it. Thats the other part about Minelab... good luck getting one for twice the price of an AQ.
  4. There are lots of notes on this thread about changes that are being made in the next version of the Impulse AQ. Key items: Battery system replaced entirely with four drop in 18650 rechargeable Li-Ion batteries Depth rating to be increased Lower rod made longer to accommodate taller users Headphone connection being relocated to back of pod An 8” accessory coil is in the works Refer to the thread above for details.
  5. No, it is due to the Fisher custom battery shipped with the Ltd, which has no certifications for sales outside the U.S. You can buy 18650 batteries on Amazon all day long so that’s not an issue.
  6. I’ve never heard that anywhere and I keep a pretty close ear to the ground. Minelab is releasing new machines soon, but a beach PI is almost sure to not be on the list. The is a lot of talk about a new GPX 6000 for gold prospecting that could be used on the beach, but like previous GPX don’t think it will go underwater. Besides, ask Equinox owners about Minelab’s ability to make a detector that does not leak! I think the next version of the AQ should only be released when ready, and not before. We already have the half done version and it would be great if the next one is 100%.
  7. I’m afraid not. Unless you have researched and are hunting a known meteorite location, your odds of just finding a random meteorite are extremely low. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/3334-meteorite-identification-101/
  8. Over three weeks and nobody posted on it, so I rolled everything back into one forum. I’m more than happy to create a specific model or models sub-forum, but the catch is they have to have activity. If you want to find all the V threads, just click on the dfx vx3 v3i tag.
  9. These guys do release some great leaks, but like I point out above they are also not shy of making stuff up. People tend to quote them as if it’s all facts, even when every new release proves much of the stuff gets made up. So this time I’d like to point it out here for future reference, so that somebody quotes these guys on the next release, I can refer here to point out how unreliable the information is.
  10. I think your detector is fine. The broken ring thing has to do with eddy currents. Normally a solid ring creates the perfect path for eddy currents and creates a strong target. Break the ring, and now instead of one large eddy current you get numerous very small ones. See the last paragraph of page 2 and page 3 of this document, which shows why a ring detects better than a coin. https://bodhi3.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/induction.pdf Detecting a White Gold Single Post Earring More On Single Post and Small Jewelry Micro Jewelry Hunting Advice
  11. I don’t think he is mistaking the high frequency natural faster recovery, he is purposefully employing it.
  12. Z-Lynk is proprietary and at 17ms is faster than low latency Bluetooth. And unlike the Minelab system, all Z-Lynk products are compatible with each other, including the Z-Lynk enabled AT Pro Pointer. Details here
  13. I’ve got the Tony Eisenhower Equinox version and have been happy with them so far. I do like the fit in particular on my not overly large head.
  14. White gold is a worse conductor than pure gold or pure silver and therefore difficult to detect. Most detectors will not beep at all on a simple white gold single post earring. Also, broken circles, like a ring with a broken solder joint, are extremely hard to detect. If your earrings are open or if the connection is weak it will hurt the signal. A very high frequency VLF is best for targets like that. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/11003-equinox-tid-and-gold-rings/?do=findComment&comment=108331
  15. My 13 kHz - 19 kHz detectors found many ounces of gold. There is nothing wrong with 20 kHz. It may not get Gold Bug 2 type bits, but no reason it can’t do well.
  16. Great ring... you are amazing with the finds Joe! 👍🏻 Given the design goal of the machine, with a distinct focus on the gold ring range, it’s possible that a nickel is an almost perfect target for the AQ. A nickel does sit pretty near the middle of the desirable gold ring range. I say “almost perfect” because lacking a hole in the middle takes it down from the pinnacle of perfection as a target. However, I’d surmise the pulses per second (pps) and everything else are optimized for something far closer to a nickel than a silver quarter (for example). I have not tested it, but it may hit a nickel just as deep or even deeper than a quarter. This machine is not optimized at all for silver. And I’m good with that.
  17. I believe that’s all covered in the thread about that subject.... Impulse AQ Coil Connector - False Signals The coil (not coil connector) in moving water issue is a different deal and what I’m trying to keep on subject here about. Go to the other thread to discuss coil connector issues. Trying to talk about both at once here is near impossible since you have to be careful to keep defining which thing is being discussed. Connector issues over there. The coil in moving water is as much about the circuit as the coil itself, so is more complex in nature. The issue with the coil boils down to the current hardware design and tuning. If the machine is too hot for moving salt conditions then control settings need to be turned down to compensate. Or a smaller coil used. Or both. That is assuming no actual circuit changes. The coil connector issue... as noted at the other thread..... does occur in fresh water. The water moving coil issue? No, not in fresh water. Fresh water is basically invisible to the machine, though it changes the nature of the material being detected (dry earth versus saturated earth).
  18. I’m guessing with your picture on the page this is your new website Shelton? Congratulations! 👍🏻
  19. The Gray Ghosts may be wired wrong. Between the two I’d stick with the NokMak personally. Unfortunately, issues and complaints about waterproof headphones are common with all brands, especially lack of volume.
  20. The multi version has been developed in parallel with the Simplex+ and will use most of the same hardware. In some ways Simplex+ is just a way to get the bugs out before going to the next step. The multi release will be a real milestone for NokMak so they need to get it right. All the teething pains seen with Simplex will help insure the Multi has a smoother introduction. If NokMak wants me to put my Equinox down they need to work on adding more tone options, especially multi tone. Keep that true threshold based all metal mode. Add recovery speed, and we probably have a deal.
  21. Not everyone hunts the same places. I for instance hunt fresh water, and although the ground is incredibly bad, I can run controls maxed out in the majority of locations. So no, those other settings are not for show... they are for me!
  22. That cap rock sure is some nasty stuff! Great looking ground. What I was sorry to find in my month there was how much of that incredibly great looking ground has no gold to be found. I’d look around, everything screams gold... nothing. Good on this bloke scoring. He earned it!
  23. Common is a relative term. More common among PI detectors due to the high voltages being produced, but not unheard of in a VLF. It is another reason besides eliminating a leak point that so many dive detectors have a hardwired coil. The reality is it is a rare issue to actually experience since there are so few submersible high power PI detectors sold that use such connectors. It’s possible to have a detector that has the connector issue and to never know about it. My Infinium, if I used it in water, was always fully submerged. I have no idea if any of the ones I owned did it or not. They did not do it to me the way I used them is all I know. But I’ve heard other Infinium owners say they have run into it.
  24. Vanquish! Bah, Humbug!! Those at the Apex will look down on those who have been “Vanquished.” Wishing you had twice the target id range, but stuck with your measly 50? Maybe ground balance would have been nice today, hmmmm? Oh, oh, maybe some sprinkles... better run and get that rain cover! And best of all - Apex is not red!!
