  1. There have always been lots of aftermarket coils for Garrett, so I doubt that will be a problem. Though if it's totally new there may be a limited selection initially. I hope that's the case because anything using the existing coils will just be another retread. I can't even begin to hope this is the new lightweight version of the ATX I have been craving so long, with a new set of standard coils to match. Maybe Garrett will shock me but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one. More likely a replacement for the over 20 year old GTI 2500. Or a high frequency gold machine.
  2. I'm not sure if this is any better than ArmorAll but I got some and like it... 303 Aerospace Protectant "Originally engineered for aerospace and aviation applications, 303 Aerospace Protectant is a premium surface treatment that provides superior protection against harmful UV rays that cause discoloration, fading, embrittlement, cracking, chalking and/or loss of mechanical properties. Key benefits include keeping treated surfaces looking new, prevents fading and cracking, restores lost color and luster, powerful UV blockers, anti-static, repels smudges, dust, soiling and staining, matte finish with no oily residue. Easy to use just apply and wipe clean. Safe and Effective on vinyl, clear vinyl, gel-coat, fiberglass, carbon fiber, synthetic/natural rubber, plastics, and finished leather."
  3. White’s new 8″ x 14″ DD Coil for the Goldmaster 24K and GMX Sport is now showing up at some dealers for $249.95 (internet price $229.95), part number 624-0614. Scuff cover /skip plate sold separately, part 501-4101, $9.95. Great for ground coverage, but for those with a GMX Sport do note this coil will float like a cork. 8" x 14" DD search coil for White's Goldmaster 24K and Sport GMX The Goldmaster 24K and GMX Sport now have a decent coil selection going. In addition to the coil above, we have: 6" x 10" DD coil (stock on 24k) 6" round concentric (stock on GMX) 4" x 6" DD coil Here is my Goldmaster 24K with a prototype (no label) 8" x 14" coil.... 4. We all know why so let’s not go there. Here are a few ideas of prospecting and metal detecting related activities you can do at home. 1. Research. This is the key to all truly successful prospecting and metal detecting. You need good locations to do well, and they are getting harder to find every year. Time spent researching is never time wasted. 2. Take those detectors apart and give them the best cleaning ever. Make them look brand new! Are there spare parts you don’t have and maybe should have? Extra coil bolt and washers for instance. Think about this while cleaning the detector and get them ordered. 3. Check all those old batteries and discard the ones that need to go away. If you have detectors that have been sitting for too long, take the batteries out if they are going to keep sitting. Charge everything up that can be charged. 4. Time to clean house. Get that stuff you are never really ever going to use again up for sale or give it away. 5. Go though all those finds and get them in order. Maybe some need to go in the trash. The best may need a display case. Good time to take photos and post a story! 6. You know those bench test experiments you always meant to do but never get around to? Time for that and maybe a test garden or test tub to answer some of those questions for yourself that have been nagging you. 7. Change the oil in that ATV or generator. Service all your support gear and vehicles. Please add your own suggestions to the list......
  5. Nice to hear it will be a full product information release. The endless tease thing is very old with me at least. And hopefully the information will be followed by an actual detector in a very short time, not next year. Please let it be a top end unit of some sort and not another low to mid-range offering!
  6. Welcome to the forum! I’m glad you are looking after your health, and metal detecting is definitely an excellent low impact form of exercise.
  7. I just put mine in my regular luggage. I tend to think special cases attract special attention from thieves. But if you are looking for something check out gun cases on Amazon.
  8. Sadly not much helps with the big deep ferrous. If I had to pick a detector purely on its ferrous handling capability it would be the CTX 3030, but given the extra weight I’d still go Equinox myself. And the Nox is far better on tiny gold for those shallow bedrock areas than a CTX.
  9. This notice just drove a stake in the heart of my hopes for having an Impulse to use anytime soon. I’m just going to put it out of my mind for now and plan on doing other things this summer. If it happens, great. Until that official notice appears there is just nothing more for me to say on the subject. I’m going to polish up my V3i with Bigfoot and hit the parks and sports fields instead of the beaches in my quest for jewelry. Just one last look......
  10. I can swing an Equinox with 15” coil all day long day after day with the stock coil. I did just that in the U.K. but it is nose heavy, and I’d be lying if I said it did not have certain back muscles protesting mightily at times. The fix is a steveg carbon fiber rod with counterbalance. It perfectly balances the 15” coil and although the counterbalance adds weight it actually feels much lighter. You are not fighting that nose heavy torque. A huge improvement and in my opinion a must have for anyone using the 15” coil for anything other than very limited times.
  11. If not too trashy I’d be running the GPX with 18” round mono coil and digging everything. There is nothing magic about detecting tailing piles with a VLF. Either no discrimination and dig everything, or minimal ferrous rejection. Looking for nuggets so Park 2 a good place to start, see https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/6799-equinox-800-gold-nugget-detecting-tips/ for possible settings. I’d be using the 15” coil with steveg rod and balance kit. 12. Yes. Same target id range and almost identical numbers on targets. The tones sound similar but keep in mind the Vanquish 44 is three tones max.
  13. That’s why I wanted you to see the video.... far clearer to see it than read about it. Sorry to hear your unit has an issue, but that’s why we have warranties and Garrett’s service is top notch.
  14. Well, it’s available now, MSRP $449 and internet price of $399 with free shipping. I guess it barely squeaks into under $400 category now.
  15. The “new” Bounty Hunter Time Ranger Pro is a F19 and at $399 I figure that puts all F19 detectors in this under $400 category now. Anyone paying more for another variant at this point is.... just paying more. Though getting it with a different preferred coil may still make that a better option. For what it’s worth, in my ferrous and hot rock separation testing the FT 19 kHz machines are top performance. It’s all about using the right coil. A F19 with a NEL Snake will equal or beat other top performers, which often are forced to run larger coils. Some may say that’s cheating... I say use what works best and if a F19 with a Snake outperforms a DEUS with a larger coil then that’s the way I roll. I’m not much into being “fair” when it comes to performance. I disagree about any of the FT 19 kHz units and EMI susceptibility. They are some of the best VLFs I’ve ever used in EMI regardless of coil. Really off subject though.... this thread is about the Vanquish and small coil, and where comparisons really do go astray is bringing the Equinox into the discussion. The Equinox is simply way more expensive and darn well better outperform a Vanquish, though the performance for many applications is near equal. There does appear to be a disparity of views on how well it does in dense trash.
  16. See the first couple minutes of this video. If it has never worked for you, then you may have an issue that Garrett needs to fix.

  18. From Wikipedia “By the 1840s, Indian peace medals had come to be known as a "presidential series" for which there was growing interest. The federal mint in Philadelphia started collecting dies for the previously issued medals. This began the practice of striking bronze replicas of medals for presentation to government officials or historical societies. Production of the bronze medals began in 1842 with the Jefferson medal. The dies of the Washington and John Adams medals were missing during initial production, however. The John Adams die was not collected until 1878, and the George Washington die was ultimately reproduced in 1903, completing the series.” Restruck in 2007
  19. I’d be getting the coil for a 24K and I doubt you are saying you are using a Hot Foot on a Goldmaster 24K? Presumably you are using it in some other machine like the GMT. At a minimum you would need to change the plug since 24K/GMK coils are not plug compatible with the GMT and earlier Goldmaster coils. But maybe you have done that, and if so it would be interesting to hear about it and how well it’s working. I would think there is a high probability of the Hot Foot overloading at higher gain levels if employed on the 24K or GMK. I would not hold your breath for a review. I’m in no hurry to get the coil and have no idea when I would get around to using it. Since I have the 6” concentric which would be my preference anyway this is just a whim purchase. It would take just the right circumstances for me to actually use it, like deep, crevice and pocket riddled bedrock or some extreme mineral ground. The bottom line is when I have a detector I have kind of a knee jerk thing about getting the available coils that go with it.
  20. Do you want depth or discrimination? For depth I'd be using a GPX 5000 with an 18" round mono coil. Discrimination I'd be using a Equinox with 12" x 15" coil or Gold Racer/Gold Kruzer with 13" x 15.5" coil. Just my choices... there are many others that would work also.
  21. You get 5 free articles per month so you’ve been there, done that already. Using a new browser or device usually gets you another 5.
  22. Yay, good for you! I do believe I will round one up for myself.
