  1. The concentric is not “crap” unless you got a bad one. More likely you are using it on highly mineralized ground where a DD coil is more appropriate. The concentric works great and would be my preference on low mineral ground over the DD. Different tools for different jobs. Most older style White’s coils are foam filled and with age and excessive use the foam is prone to breaking down and allowing the windings to move, making the coils erratic with touch sensitivity and false signals in general. Not saying that’s the case with your old concentric but something to be aware of on all the older coils. The old GM2 and V/SAT are very good by even today’s standards and illustrate that we really have not come very far with high frequency models since they first came out almost 30 years ago. Me and my old Goldmaster 2 (with crap coil ) back in 1992...
  2. In rock land a clean surface means a fresh broken surface which for me usually mean breaking it in half. I'm not suggesting that, but old worn discolored surfaces are misleading, and that is half the issue here. Do you think this something that would break, or is it a metal that would flatten and bend? As for not natural I mean man made, not a naturally occurring object. Again, not suggesting you do it but as a person who has been prospecting for 50 years if I found that I'd be smacking it hard with a hammer. I'd want to see if it is a malleable metal and if not, what it looks like inside. I see nothing to indicate is has value as a specimen in an untouched state. But that's just my opinion and I have been known to be wrong.
  3. Welcome to the forum. The Equinox as one of the most popular metal detectors ever made is a pretty safe choice since it does very well in almost every detecting category there is.
  4. Does not look natural. Were it not for the mention of magnetic properties just from the picture I'd have said brass or bronze. Have you done a streak test? What does a clean surface look like?
  5. Yeah, the display is very Gold Monsterish as well as the controls and full time ground tracking. Bump the frequency up and you are there, but waterproof and with more coils. They could go to 61 kHz and use Gold Kruzer coils. Or just put this display and controls on the Gold Kruzer. If there was only one thing I could wish for on this detector it would be the ability to adjust the ferrous break point. But they are going for simplicity, so I get it.
  6. Nokta/Makro TMD-101 metal detector The 14 kHz Nokta/Makro TMD-101 is aimed at the utility and CSI market, but it has all the makings of an interesting VLF gold prospecting, jewelry, or relic hunting detector. Check out the full details posted here.
  7. Congratulations Tom. I know many people have maybe found more gold coins, but those are the results of finding a cache. As far as I know you are tops for finding them one at a time here and there. It just goes to show that hunting the right sites and focusing on your desired targets does pay off. To find gold coins like you do you have to hunt for gold coins. For most people they tend to be an accidental find while doing general coin or relic detecting. Very impressive, and a super clean find at that! Thanks for posting.
  8. I’m still betting on availability before the end of the year. But would not bet my life on that either!
  9. Nokta/Makro TMD-101 metal detector OK, this is kind of cool. The main target market is utility and police departments and such, but I think there are lots of other people who might like a simplified version of the Nokta/Makro Anfibio 14. The Nokta/Makro TMD-101 is 14 kHz, fully submersible (10 feet), with built in rechargeable battery and wireless headphone capability (proprietary). The main difference between this detector and the Anfibio 14 is a simplified control set and a really simple display that personally I think is just great. The controls are just Mode (two choices, all metal non-motion or two tone ferrous/non-ferrous disc), a sensitivity control, and a volume control. The unit also has a frequency shift function. The TMD-101 is in ground tracking at all times for ease of operation. The Anfibio 14 sells for $679 and the TMD-101 for $594 Nokta/Makro TMD-101 display and controls The TMD-101 has two search modes. A monotone static non-motion all metal mode for maximum depth. This mode will offer as much depth as is possible for a VLF to deliver, but has no discrimination and due to the non-motion aspect only suitable for hunting relatively small areas. Constant manual updating of the preset threshold is generally required when using non-motion modes. The Dynamic Mode is a two tone discrimination mode. Ferrous items give a low tone and the meter deflects to the left. Non-ferrous gives a high tone and the meter deflects to the right. Interestingly enough they use a prospecting type icon for the non-ferrous indication, and I was thinking this would be a pretty neat VLF gold prospecting unit. But good for anyone wanting basic ferrous/non-ferrous discrimination. This may be a sleeper relic detector. 10. "The Gold Prospectors Association of America will postpone planned GPAA Gold & Treasure Shows for Sacramento, CA and Vancouver, WA. Those events were scheduled for March 14th and 15th, and March 21st and 22nd respectively. In order to ensure responsible measures can be taken to protect attendees and vendors, these events will be rescheduled to a future date. Those who have purchased advanced tickets for either of these events will be given full refunds for their ticket purchases. We have been in close contact with our vendors and the facilities in recent days and are confident we can resume plans for these shows in the very near future. I would like to apologize to all of our GPAA members who had planned on attending these scheduled shows. At this time, plans for all remaining 2020 GPAA Gold & Treasure Shows are moving forward as planned, and we are working to ensure those shows are fun, successful and safe events for all of our guests. Sincerely, Brandon Johnson President, Gold Prospectors Association of America" I have added this notice to the two related forum Calendar entries.
  11. Just to be clear it was not my review. I only post on this forum.
  12. That’s awesome Carl.... nice to know there is at least one person on the inside with some “Vision”
  13. Totally agree. However, as one of the "good dealers" for many year I know how I and other good dealers suffered from manufacturers setting up literally any Tom, Dick, or Harry who wants to be a dealer with almost no investment in having a real business. I had a building, rent, utilities, employees, and a very deep on hand stock, and some of the best service in the industry. I NEVER sent people to the manufacturer. If you were my customer, I took care of you, period. Then the manufacturer happily sets up a dealer six blocks away working out of his garage with no stock, overhead, or investment. Just a website, and generally someone who thinks selling a detector for $50 over cost is big bucks. Big box stores are not a problem as they adhere to the pricing rules. It's the guy that sets himself up as dealer for the local club giving them all machines at cost plus $20 that kills the good dealers. Do I sound bitter? Maybe a little. The bottom line is I am a huge advocate for dealer standards set by manufacturers. Such standards support dealers who are willing to invest in the business in a real way, and I am all about supporting good dealers. The know nothing drop shippers who send every customer with a problem straight to the manufacture or the good dealer or this website looking for answers... I've nothing but scorn for that crowd. And ultimately for the manufacturers that set them up and allow them to exist. The manufactures only give lip service to independent dealers but do nothing real to actually support the best of them. Tesoro was the only company that was truly real about that, and that went away the minute Jack passed away. I guess White's kind of tried in their own weird way but that was more about some insiders using policies to support themselves than actually looking out for all the dealers. Minelab once put a dealer standards program in place that lasted all of six months before it was axed.

  16. coin spader - Some wind noise at the beginning of the video, sorry 😞 but was a decent hunt. Coin pics at the end of the video.
  17. This thread may provide some insight.... https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/10413-tom-dankowski-tips-for-low-mineral-ground/
  18. Well Relic Mode should have better separation in iron than the other modes. If the manual says otherwise it’s wrong.
