  1. Good information……I guess they’re a one way death trap for anything that flies in there or think it might be a good home.
  2. Actually, I’ve changed my mind. White’s deserves its own single forum preserved forever. I think they were the greatest metal detector company ever. Yes, they lost their way a bit towards the end and forces beyond their control 🇨🇳 contributed to their demise. Greatness never lasts forever. But I can understand Steve’s view and that the tidying up and backend work running a popular website is necessary.
  3. I wanted to mention that in my humble opinion, I am of the belief that White’s “did audio” better than anyone else. Maybe it’s just my ear but the lows and highs (and everything in between) just sounded rich and detailed to me. Even the newer MX7 has that great Whites sound. Discrimination, especially with Concentric coils was killer as well.
  4. I’m confident all content is preserved…..text and pics/videos 👍 I’m looking for any excuse to keep my two showroom condition White’s detectors…….not that I need an excuse. How could I ever part with this classic beauty and her 4 coils🥺 or the newer MX7……one of the best VLF machines from White’s just before they folded 😞
  5. Erosion is never ending…..some of it is slow and some of it is fast. There have been areas in the Western Australia goldfields where ex Cyclones pass through and dump a couple of feet of rain in a day……I have seen areas that I know well get completely transformed by moving water that just needs a little elevated topography to shift millions of tons of soil………potentially exposing huge areas of gold bearing ground to an eager detectorist 👍 ……..I have optimism always when looking for gold 🤞 ……..and a good ☂
  6. and I have my first gold at about 1 gram like 1.5 foot deep. Sorry but a one grammer at 18” is never going to happen……ever. Not even the mighty 7000 will do this. I don’t want to sound confrontational but I have to call this out as it sets false hope for newcomers or people wondering why their unit only gets a one grammer at 8”. As you say “Don’t get caught up in the hype”.
  7. Steve, I’ve got my “like new” XL Pro and four coils plus my MX7 (looks brand new) but I just don’t dirt hunt anymore. I’m either in the water during the summer or the goldfields during the winter. If I had a preference on where to merge then it would be in the Compass/Tesoro section. I certainly don’t want to post White’s stuff just for the sake of it. Since I moved on my TDI BeachHunter then I’ve been very quiet on the White’s forum 🥺 I may even move on my remaining beloved White’s machines………that would be a sad day for sure😢 As a young kid around 1981, my first detector was a White’s…….the joy and excitement that detector brought me is priceless. Then I discovered girls and beer and the detector was never used again😞 What was I thinking 🫤
  8. Very nice piece of gold……and 18K for extra sweetness 👍
  9. Hello Chris, No, this is a recent project. Not much more to add to my post really. Very robust enclosure and can fit up to a 6 cell Lithium setup or any other battery chemistry. I’m guessing a 6 x 18650 battery would run for a 100 hours (Joe would know more about this than me). You could use an off the shelf 11.1 v Lithium battery up to 6ah but I prefer to be able to charge the batteries individually if possible (easier to diagnose or swap out an individual cell if needed) 👍
  10. Hello Joe, Well you’ve got the skill to make just about anything to a high standard👍 In case you ever need the Ikelite style bulkhead connector then Aquascan UK sell the whole assembly. I think they bought the design from Ikelite and now call it the Aqualite connector. Just need to drill two holes through the plastic lid for the two electrical pins to pass through. Hope you are well👍 Tony
  11. Works perfectly. The case is naturally heavier than the stock battery pods but I don’t notice any extra resistance in the water. The 3 x 18650 cells run for a very long time….I charge them after about 25 hours of use just to be safe. I can easily fit a 6ah lithium battery in there but that’s overkill but would run for days. I only did this project because the acrylic cases were being discontinued and I got them very cheap……they were originally over $200 each.
  12. We don’t have old school dealers like you Gerry…..unfortunately. The problem lies fully at the feet of Garrett Australia / Garrett Australia dealers. Full credit to Garrett USA for giving us this impressive detector AND even more credit to people like you who support and promote the product (plus sell it at a realistic price 😉). I think you’ll sell a ton of them 👍 I’ll get my hands on one eventually but it sure won’t be a local purchase 🤬 …….now get off the computer and go find some chunky nuggets 😂
  13. This has been a good thread…my final thought and comment is this……. Garrett USA would sell more Garrett detectors if there was no Garrett Australia dealers and thus improving their (Garrett USA) bottom line. I don’t want to sound harsh or unfair but Garrett dealers in Australia are a hindrance in todays market……let them compete on the open world market. I don’t see why I should have to be significantly out of pocket by being forced to pay their premium prices. I am completely okay with a fair markup price but…….all our local Garrett dealer has to do is pass me a box after I’ve passed him my Visa card. That 2 or 3 minutes is likely to cost me at least $1500 more than it should 😡
  14. Plus…..In Australia, wages are quite strong even with rampant inflation. If you’re prepared to travel away from the main cities there are amazing opportunities. You can get paid a six figure income just by flipping hamburgers or making coffees……but this doesn’t excuse companies from price gouging.
  15. Steve……Garrett Australia want their dealers to retire comfortably just by selling one or two units 🤣 Corporate Australia is just plain greedy right across the board👎 They’re probably thinking “we need to make 3K profit on every machine we sell because we’re only going to sell a handful”……..I wonder why they think that 🤔
  16. You’re a good bunch of guys and gals that’s for sure.👍 I just have to question if Garrett Australia really want to sell these units down here. I know it’s a small market in Australia but give yourself a fighting chance. Anyhow, I want to finish my post on a positive note and acknowledge that Garrett looks to have delivered a very capable machine and I want to see some nice nuggets as you all get your hands on the Axiom.……and yes, the Octopus is back.
  17. I am totally gutted, dismayed and disappointed. Garrett Australia are clueless and the Minelab brigade will be having a good laugh. To my friends in the USA……enjoy the success that the Axiom will deliver for you. It’s actually cheaper for me to fly there and pick one up. I wonder if Gerry does military discounts for Aussies🤔 Well excuse me while I change my Avatar and rant some more offline. ……signing off Axiomless ☹️
  18. Ah what the heck…….gimme one of each 🦾
  19. If I could, I’d pick the 16” x 14” in the Mono and DD 👍 Big wide open expanses down here. Look forward to your future results 👍
  20. That’s a very good point regarding the “ancient” Aussie soils…..some of the oldest rocks found anywhere on the planet……..especially over here in WA. If you find gold in low ground then quite often that’s where most of it is….it’s had a couple of billion years to let erosion and gravity do its thing. I really want to try the Axiom over here……I’m almost at the point of buying it fully satisfied it can do the job well and can be swung for 8+ hours day after day (and that alone will contribute greatly to your gold tally).
  21. Depends on location but in my ground it tends be uniformly hot across a wide area so a GB can be fixed for quite some time. I will regularly update the GB but more through habit than out of necessity. The odd hot rocks aren’t really a problem. On my 4500…….used to run a Mono in Enhance but got better depth with a DD in Normal…..and quieter.
  22. The Axiom has a price of 90000 Rand (South Africa) which equates to $7800 Aussie dollars…..I’m getting a bit worried. I wonder if this is the “African” price 🤔
