  1. Some sort of unique 'piece' could be made from those nuggets which could enhance the value over just gold alone I would think.
  2. I just read with interest an event that changed the landscape of Eastern Washington State. There is some mention of Montana so these events may have changed where gold has been moved and where it is left. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/devastating-ice-age-floods-that-occurred-in-the-pacific-northwest-fascinate-scientists-180979749/?utm_source=smithsoniandaily-dek&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20220419-daily-dek&spMailingID=46715100&spUserID=MTMxNjg2MzE5MzQ5NgS2&spJobID=2222101253&spReportId=MjIyMjEwMTI1MwS2 A little bit more research provided a more detailed link. https://hugefloods.com/Scablands.html
  3. Well done Reg. I've rubbed both of my boys noggins for you and James. I hope both of you drench your pant legs in the fields and share those pictures here. Mitchel
  4. Simon, Get your dredge ready. I'll be right there! https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/128327995/the-new-central-otago-gold-rush-is-just-a-trickle-for-most
  5. Swift, The pin is rusty. What do you think the other metal is? Mitchel
  6. The top 10 craters are impressive. Think about how many are unknown! https://www.livescience.com/45126-biggest-impact-crater-earth-countdown.html
  7. Use this to search your meteorite to see if it has a name. https://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/
  8. Here is a story about a Museum that bought a previously found coin on eBay France! https://www.livescience.com/rare-charlemagne-coin-found?utm_source=notification
  9. And I've also lost friendships over gold! I should sometimes avoid a pointy finger least I get lucky and clean out a patch!
  10. This is an interesting read about someone taking people out to some claims near Coolgardie for a few days to find gold and relics. https://www.farmweekly.com.au/story/7680225/prospectors-dig-for-gold/
  11. There have been some 'paper' flippers using the Rye Patch name and reputation for finding gold for a few years now. They have made much, much more money flipping claims than finding any gold themselves. To hear your description of weekly and perhaps daily gold find expectations told to expectant buyers smacks of fraud more than hype. To have a claim 'near' a gold producing area is not the same as having a producing claim. Of course an uninformed buyer or 'newbie' as Condor has described would not know how to prove the claims. Let all buyers be ware that they should 'prove the claims (not just the paperwork filings)' of the seller before parting with your money. We should name names and put good and bad reputations on display for what they sell. We don't want people to be 'oversold' or cheated just because the word gold is involved.
  12. Lunk and maybe Jasong in the States and Norvic and Aureous in Australia and a couple more if you want a broad field.
  13. Well, upon more 'research' on the rose quartz it is very common and not very valuable. I'd say that the 'crown' setting was made and then some quartz was shaped for the ring. Even with the size and customization it is not very valuable. Why couldn't they make it out of gold? haha
  14. I'm not sure if it is quartz or glass or ???
  15. Today I found a .925 Pink Honker. I say this because it is massive at 16 plus grams and the size of the stone is immense also. I don't know anything about the makers mark. I don't really know much about the age either. I've cleaned it up quite a bit from when I found it. My lasting question will be was the ring made for the stone (pink quartz?) or was a stone found for the ring? These are 3 other rings I found this week. There are 2 silvers and 1 cheapo.
  16. Thanks for the report. I'd like to know more about the GSSN incident as I've been a current and past member. What are gas prices in Montana?
  17. I've been to the edge of a Wilderness Area where you turn in at Jungo Dry Lake. I've been out on that lake looking for meteorites 3 or 4 times and not found any but lots of others have. I've seen their videos.
  18. That is a beautiful Specimen in some natural environment. Your size 3.5/1.5 Oz is that Quartz/Gold. Lets hope others put some sunbakers shots up. I noted all the other Quartz are not water worn so yours has travelled recently to not be buried more. This was a specimen I found while looking for meteorites at Franconia, Arizona. It is rounded. The area I found it is a wash but the temperatures can get very high there so I think some of the other rocks have fractured from the heat. This was the nugget that prompted me to go back over a year later and discover by biggest nugget/specimen to date (20.5/8 ozt) that was much the opposite of a sunbaker. It was down over knee deep (18" plus).
  19. I took a picture of that marker when I was in Victoria. I didn't really know what it was until I stopped. It wasn't on my places to visit. Thanks for sharing it and reminding me of how blown away I was when I was reading all the nugget sizes.
