  1. I don't know which site these photos were taken from, I don't know if you have already seen them, I must say Ukrainian technicians are really good at modifying metal detectors, but my question is : why ML didn't think of such a thing ? Single keyboard for all commands, no mechanical keys that can break easily, all reach of your thumb finger, simple!
  2. Hello I live in Las Vegas anybody have suggestions where I can go. I have a equinox 800 and I believe I have problems with it. Have not found any gold and getting frustrated with very little help from Minelab. Need ground I can test it out on tkk on se if there is a problem with it. any help would be appreciated
  3. Today I had a look at the shaft that my father put together for his 800. I thought it turned out very well, so I thought I would take a few pictures to share here. We looked at a few options but ultimately thought a true one piece shaft was best and easiest. Based on a previous conversation I had with an experienced water hunter on here, we figured it would be alright to run the carbon fiber almost all the way to the coil. The lower fiberglass factory shaft was cut down to about 6" and secured into the inanimate carbon tube with epoxy. This, along with the lack of clamps really reduced the weight. A couple of holes for the armrest and pod completed the project. Looks like he even got the button on the end of the shaft too. I will be doing something similar with mine, although I still think I want to try a kevlar shaft just for fun as it is basically transparent to RF. I'm in the process of finding one with the right diameters tonight. The main thing for me is to get the 0.875" O.D. (~22mm) to fit the pod, i can modify the lower piece if need be, or print a new one. I'll also tilt the handle a little bit towards myself. I love this because it is light and simple.
  4. The wet beach sand didn't produce much early this morning so I took a few swings around the dry sand on my way back to my parking place. I was using Park 1 at 20-21 and switching between multi and 4khz to know what I might be digging. I do think the multi is deeper and I found some clad in the same location with maximum depth of 8" I think. What is the little heart/star piece? I put the coins in my pouch and didn't know I had a silver until I checked them at home. I don't know exactly which hole I dug that resulted in the quarter (1946). The nickel is a 1936 Buffalo and the penny is 1952. I'll go back.
  5. Ok, so this is a subject I have not touched on much and despite me finding things I do wonder. Concerning Threshold of the Minelab Equinox in park mode and field mode specifically. Mine is set fairly low at volume lvl 4. There are times when it goes silent yet I have no "target" on the screen. What exactly does it mean when you are going over an area and the threshold tone disappears or "nulls out to silence" for a second but yet there is no target audio? Does it mean my ground balance is not set correctly? Seriously wondering, as I want to get every last particle of performance out of my Equinox 800. Thanks in advance for answers! For what it is worth, the majority of my hunting is done in Park 1 with some modified tone break points from default. I may venture into Field 1 every now and then, otherwise it is the modified park 1.
  6. Been fishing for about 2 years and I must say the break from the detecting has done me a world of good. Dug up the CTX from the attick, gave it a dusting off. And while I was figuring out how to ride a bike again. All the mist was blown out of my head and we got down to the nitty gritty. Bought myself a new GPS unit to log waypoints. I’m not wandering around like a drunk anymore, this time around I’m gridding. As a beach hunter, tried the dirt and parcs. But my heart belongs to the beach, pretty obvious when you like fishing and fresh air. So the obvious choice for logging finds and hotspots is Navionics Boating App, weather and tides integrated. Several outings with the CTX and a scarred coil protector has opened my eyes and forced me out of my comfort zone. Last time around I tried to use the CTX like an Excalibur. This time I listened and let it talk to me. Learned the CTX language a bit. A few outings later I the happy owner of another ring and my most prised CTX targets: a stainless screw of 0,8 gr found on the wet slope that was just a slight blip in the landscape. And a piece of stainless wire 4 cm in length weighing in at 0,3 gr at the wash. People say the Equinox 800 can find gold chains, but surely if the CTX can detect such small stainless items. It has a chance at bringing home the goods. GB manual, Sens running borderline, All Metal and trying to wear out the coil cover. I’ve watched countless Equinox 800 vids, seems like no other detector is made anymore 🙂 But at the beach people aren’t finding gold chains by the dozen. Just the usual rings and coins. Are they not using it to it’s full potential?? Anyhow still happy with my CTX, but that gold chain I found with my Equinox 800 MKI is still bugging me to get another. Maybe the Equinox 800 V3 MKIII will be more to my liking. Or have I learned a valuable lesson,... LISTEN and DIG.
  7. A few weeks ago, I started conversing with Steveg (www.stevesdetectorrods.com) about building me a complete carbon fiber shaft replacement with counterweight attachment for my Equinox 800. Well it arrived today, and I thought I would share my impressions. First of all, let me say that the entire process of ordering a shaft from Steve was absolutely wonderful! Extremely thoughtful, articulate, and maybe most importantly, timely communications. From the very first email, I felt I was valued as a customer, and that Steve truly cared not only about me, but about the product he produces as well. The shaft arrived today via priority mail, and was very well packaged. I ordered the bright blue option because, hey, I like blue! The material is stunning, and the workmanship on the shaft is impeccable. Fit and finish are gorgeous. The Equinox weight before disassembly came in at 1354 grams with the stock shaft and stock coil. The stock shaft components on their own weigh 295 grams, while the new carbon fiber shaft weighs 225 grams without the counterbalance. Final weight of the detector with the new shaft sans counterbalance is 1284 grams, for a 70 gram weight reduction. Assembling the Equinox components onto the new shaft was a piece of cake. All the hole locations for mounting the components were perfectly aligned and properly sized, and the cam-lock hardware works flawlessly. The 70 gram difference is very noticeable when swinging the detector, but it really starts to shine when you add the counterbalance attachment. With the stock coil, swinging becomes almost effortless and the balance is such that the coil feels weightless. It really is quite amazing! My shoulder and neck are already thanking me.😍 And there is no wobble or flex in the shaft at all. If you are looking for an upgrade to your Equinox, I can't recommend this enough! And doing business with Steve is truly a joy. My only regret is I don't have another detector to upgrade! When I do, I'll be giving Steve a call! Bash says, run, don't walk, to your computer or phone, and order one for yourself! You won't regret it!
  8. Hi Guys, With the equnox can you accept everything and give the vdi you don't wan't a no tone and alot different tones to the ones you wan't. Like on the Whites v range. Regards .
  9. I spent about 5 1/2 hours digging in the dry beach area of the lake. My goal was to dig as much trash as possible and it worked out great I was able to nab a few keepers among the junk, silver toe ring, 2 silver earrings and a silver chain with the pendant. Also dug the usual clad and junk jewelry as well. Ran the Nox 600, my settings were: Park 1 F2-0 Sens- Recovery-3 Man GB-4 1-Tone I dug everything from-2 up
  10. I've created this short (fortunately for you the software won't let me enter more than 3 questions!) poll. Comments and further elaboration of your usage, etc. are of course welcome as reply posts.
  11. Received my EQ 600 back last week from repair service, they did not indicate what the problem was but, stated they tried my coil and their coil to test and determined the problem was in the Pod. (note i was getting a CD code then it would turn off, then i got a CD and ER11 code and would turn off)They stated it has been replaced and tested and submerged for water ingress test, passing all test. Due to work, I have been unable to try it out, they just opened up our county beaches Tuesday so maybe when I'm off Monday or Tuesday I can give it a go! I also found a good deal on a 15" coil brand new, will test it as well. I see they have done the upgrade with the 4khz frequency. That started me to think, if Minelab can upgrade my 600 pod to include 4khz. then doesn't it stand to reason they would be able to upgrade my 600 to include either the 20 khz or 40 khz or both frequencies making it a 800? Both are using the same coils, battery, same housing etc. just programing I would think. When I spoke to them on exchanging my 600 that was defective to a 800 I was informed they do not have a exchange program even if you wanted to pay extra for it. Just thinking if its that easy to install another frequency why isn't the 20khz included if most of us are searching for gold rings at least I am. Then the silver hunters would be happy, ring hunters happy as well..oh forgot then you would not buy a 800. silly me! If I can get out and run a test I will let you know how it goes. Happy hunting everyone enjoy your weekend!
  12. I even bought the universal charger with 4 USB ports from Minelab and NEVER used anything but this to charge the machine. I have used it three times, I plugged it in the first night and I though it charged it fine. I had not been paying attention and today the fourth time I took it out it flashed BF. Left charging all day and green light even stays on indicating that it is fully charged but when I turn it on its flashing the battery meaning its less than 5% charged. very frustrating, going to try another charger that has greater than 2 amps. Thanks for any comments / feedback
  13. Hi everyone! Hope y'all doing great! Has anyone tried Field 2 at the Beach (Wet)? I know that Field 2 can run ok on Dry, but at Wet it will false alot... "Ghost" signals at 1 and 2 ID's. (I have my Ferrous from -9 to 0, something like the Vanquish 540 Jewelry Mode). When I hit the Beach, my goal is to find gold and not coins, so i use a specific config on wet... Beach 1 or Beach 2, i set a disc from -9 to -3, open from -2 to 16, disc again from 17 to 40, recovery speed at 7, 0 FE and F2, 2 Tones and max sens. Why? The probabilities of finding gold at low ID's is very high. I know that some gold rings can give 17 or much higher ID's... if I get a bouncing signal mixed with Ferrous and some non ferrous (very low numbers), i dig, it could be some deep gold or a gold ring on edge... Well, one of my friends recently posted that long post in one of those Equinox Groups on Facebook... To me, it doesn't make sense... How can Field 2 be more stable/perfect than Beach modes on wet!? At max sens?! Btw, he didn't explain well at the very beginning of his post. He has been hunting with his Equinox 800 for 1 and half year, most of his hunts were on Land, and he has around 30 Beach hunts on his record. (The way he wrote on Facebook makes one think that he has hunted at the Beach for 1 and half year and using Beach 1 and 2). Another thing, in the past, he has experienced alot of EMI while holding and shaking his coil in the air, while on Beach 1 and Beach 2... after a FP, he managed to fix that "issue", after some hunts he started to have that "issue" again, but this time no need to shake the coil, it just gets alot of EMI just from holding his coil in the air. A FP doesn't fix. It kind of reminds me the days back when I had the White's Spectra V3i. One day while hunting with the stock coil and using Multi, I had a Overload message on my screen... after dropping the sens, the machine would work fine... but then when I switched to the lowest frequency, I had that Overload error again... the mid frequency was ok at max sens, the highest frequency was also ok at max sens. While trying the Butterfly Sef and the Detech 13 Ultimate coils I had no issues and everything was working just fine! So I guessed that my stock coil was defective... I'm starting to think that my mate might have a similar situation! I don't know... Let me know your thoughts! Oh btw, that gold ring, he found it minutes ago while using Field 2! Haha I'm so sorry for my bad English. Best regards
  14. So we practiced with my Equinox 800, on a simple yard, lawn. We read in the manual (pages 39-40: https://www.minelab.com/__files/f/326548/4901-0249-1 Inst. Manual, EQUINOX 600 800 EN.pdf) about auto ground balancing and noise cancellation, and we did that. We tried Filed 1, multi and all other frequencies. But the detector sounds wherever we search on the ground, so it gives the sound and shovel symbol and so on. It also sounds and runs crazy when we hold it in the air and so on. A few weeks ago I tried it on a field, and used Filed 1, then it worked well. I did not do auto ground balancing and noise cancellation then, but it worked good. When I sweep around it, it was sometimes quiet, then it made a sound when it found an object, and then I dug up metals, so it found good. But now that I tried on a simple lawn, and to learn auto ground balancing and noise cancellation, I do not understand at all what is happening, or what I am doing wrong. Whenever I sweep it, it sounded all the time, and I could not find a single place where it did not make a sound. I do not know if ground balance worked properly, although it seemed to work, same with noise cancellation. On page 40 under Auto Ground Balance, point 3 it says: "Raise and lower the coil repeatedly over a clear patch of soil that does not contain any targets." But if I do not find a clear patch of soil that does not contain any targets or that is not making sounds? Wherever I sweep the coil, it sounds like it has found a target, even when held in the air. What do you think I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
  15. I want to ask for tips and advice regarding finding old bullets from muskets in fields (from the 18th century, about 300 years old, from an old battlefield), using the Equinox 800. The site has not been searched, but farmers with tractors have plowed the field over the years. Bullets something like those: In a field like this: Any tips on what settings and tricks one should use on the metal detector? Any special frequencies? Any special things to think about, or something else? If there is also an powerline nearby, is there anything special one should think about? Thanks.
  16. Earlier in the week I asked a question about using the 15" coil after updating to 3.0. I went out just a couple of hours after that on a early morning hunt and surprised myself with the stability. Normally I would put my finds under looking for jewelry but this was more about the coil and software than working the beach in my estimation. I think the Equinox is more stable in multi with the 11" coil after the update. Now I think it has done wonders for my 15" coil stability. The beaches haven't had a big wave event this week so I couldn't find patches at my beaches like I can sometimes. The large coil test would give me more coverage. This first picture was of the best items I found. In addition I found a couple of metal toy cars. The first target I found was the twisted earring. It comes in at a negative number. A bit later I found the stainless steel piece whatever it is. And then I went in to the calf to knee waves and got a signal and I blindly scooped and then I could see the glimmer of a ring. It surprised me but I knew it was a fake. Later as I was getting ready to leave a guy came up to me and wanted me to help him find his keys. A set of 4 keys should not be too hard to find but he didn't have a good idea where he lost them. We searched in the dry sand (now I was in Park 1) for over 30 minutes. During that time I found the cars and the chain. It is not magnetic but it was a scratchy near 0 read on the Nox, more towards negative. That was a real surprise. The next hunt produced a couple of rings and some 'smalls' for the 15". Once again the beaches needed to be worked slowly and the big coil found the stone ring when it read 18. The little thin ring is the first ring I have found that said 1! (Every other target that is a 1 has been foil.) The little charm and the chain dangle were tiny targets, the micro jewelry kind. I was impressed for the 15". The wire hoop was a 10 and I was hoping it was good but alas just junk and then the 1971 Kennedy. I haven't found many of them and that was the year I graduated high school. This afternoon I went out in the hot sun and couldn't stay long on the beach because of so many people. I worked my way into the dry sand that I have worked before with my CTX. I can't work it with the Equinox because there is an EMI there I just have to avoid. Today I was in Park 1 when I walked into that zone and didn't have to change anything. As a matter of fact I could cycle through the frequencies and there was no EMI problem anywhere. It got a little ratty later because there is a road with underground cables nearby but I could even hear the targets over that noise. Mostly pennies were left and they were not even wheats. One target had me digging deep. The sun was hot and I wanted to stop and I wanted to see it also. I persisted and at over 20" I scooped out of the bottom of the hole a folded piece of aluminum packaging. It wasn't an aluminum can (I think I would have given up on it) but it is one of the deepest targets I've ever dug with the Equinox. I was very glad it was not in wet sand. I like the 15" coil much better now. It gets caught in the waves but it stays stable. Now I need to use the 6" with the new version looking for nuggets. Mitchel
  17. I've been using the 800 for fresh water hunting for the last 2 months. Deepest I've taken it is neck deep with no issues. I was out this morning, hunting the beach and about an hour into the hunt, I see condensation forming behind the screen. The machine seems to function normally except the volume of the external speaker is weak. I decided to burp the speaker and when I pulled the battery out it was wet. That was not what I wanted to see, I have a vacation coming up in a couple of weeks and need my machine to hold out until the end of Sept. I'm unable to get the pressure to equalize, each time I reinstall the battery, I can hear the speaker pop and the volume remains low. I'll let Minelab deal with it. I'll contact Minelab Monday and get the issue on record and send it in after my vacation.. I've already had 3 Profind 35's go bad since February, one went nuts and 2 leaked. I've been really lucky up until this year with Minelab products.
  18. Abenson - “As you'll soon see in the video, The Tarsacci, Equinox and GPX can hold there own against each other. The only loser in the video is the Deus but it's out of it's element. Deus thrives in surface trash in my dirt not, deeper targets in trash. There's really no magic bullet when it comes to deeper iron masked targets.“ Tarsacci vs Vista X vs Equinox for Park Hunting Tarsacci vs GPX vs TDI
  19. Hi guys ! Yes, I am a beach hunter, but I was invited to metall detecing on a WW1 field... So the beach hunter I am was suddenly contemplating a huge corn field which has seen some ww1 Action... I chose to hunt before noon (2 hours) with the Equinox 800, and two hours in the afternoon with the Safari I happened to win at a detection rally two weeks ago. As you can tell from the posted pics, the Nox Found 18 targets, the Safari 32, but i felt the afternoon search was richer in targets...The best find of the day was a silver King Leopold II 1867 2 Francs (Belgium), a very rare coin, as it has only been minted from 1866-1868 The nox got more tiny targets (low conductors), but the Safari was able to find some tiny targets too. I don't know what to think about the results about both detectors, but they are very close in my opinion. Those are the pics of this outing (round bullets are belgian, the others are german). Happy hunting !
  20. My Equinox has been under the water at least 40 hours before this happened! The first thing that I noticed was interference, like the cell phone being too close... then she just went dead!! Bummer! And for anyone thinking about getting the Minelab waterproof headphones? Put on your headphones, turn the volume on your machine down to somewhere around 14 and see if you'd like to hunt like that? That's how low the sound is on the Minelab waterproof headphones! Surely the waterproof headphones were an afterthought for Minelab because I don't think you could hear them if you were under water breathing through a hookah or air tanks! I'm not sure but maybe they can come up with a download that will help with the volume! I'm just waiting for Minelab to get back to me so I can send it in..... Other than all the little and now an end of days problem........ I love this machine! I have over an ounce of gold jewelry that I have pulled off one beach in about 70 hrs of detecting!
  21. Watched this vid then went out to the most scoured and hunted to death place I know...my tiny front lawn. Not saying everything he says or does in this vid is gospel or will work in all dirt everywhere but he has his theories and what he does the way he does them works for him and he manages to find some great things in a few very hunted out parks so I got inspired to try to find just anything in my very difficult SE. mineralized devil dirt. After several years of scouring this tiny patch of land for many hours with 6 different detectors and tons of different coils and digging all decent signals I am down to the the odd, weird, strange, severely masked and incomprehensible ones only. I watched this vid, got inspired, and went out to try to find one decent target using some of his advice...just one. I didn't do exactly everything I saw done in this vid, that turning thing and examining targets from more than one angle always worked well for me here but my dirt is way weirder than his and I tried a few things but the most important point I attempted to do and prove to myself was just slow down...examine targets a bit more closer, don't just blow off jumpy signals or others that don't make sense. Not that I really ever do that but on this hunt I looked at each signal I got with a more critical eye and attitude than usual. Could still be junk hiding down there, could be wasting a bit more time over some iffy targets but none of my hunts are timed events, I just go out and get signals and decide whether to dig....or not. If it takes a little more time to figure out a confused signal, site or situation so be it. The rewards for extra patience might be nothing but maybe, just maybe...they could be great. My Nox had the sniper mounted, I did a factory reset before the hunt to start with a clean plate and didn't modify too many of the factory settings. I hunted in 5 tones, Park 2, usually I use Field 2 but changed it up a bit on this one....I left the horseshoe on through most of this short hunt. Fe was at 6, recovery at 5, switched to Fe2 after awhile and eventually maxed it out along with the recovery but didn't find much else after these four targets showed up. All these targets were found in Multi...single frequency hunting just doesn't seem to work very well around here at all with the Nox. It wasn't all peaches and cream, I still got fooled on a couple of rusty nails and a few small and crazy tiny pieces of iron but not all that much, dug very little trash that wasn't iron so I was happy with that. The 1953 nickel was the absolute first target dug, short, sweet, jumped a bit from 11-13 and a bit iffy unlike most of my usually solid nickel signals but when this thing popped up first thing I was actually shocked and thrilled. The lead hem weight was an older one, #4, nice and heavy and really jumpy initially but solid once I dialed the coil into its location. The dime is modern but hiding in a tiny crack vertical between the grass and the curb. The older Naval button was the prized treasure of this hunt, the only one I have ever found. Faces to the left so pre WW ll as they changed the eagle from looking left in 1941 to looking to its right. Don't believe civil war and could be anywhere from 1850 to 1941...but I am thinking maybe around or a bit later than WW l on this one. Mower hit but sweet find never the less. Kept switching between 4kHz and Multi checking out many targets, other frequencies too, I still don't see a whole lot of advantage to me in my sites using 4kHz or any other single frequency but I still switch to them to check some signals and will continue to do that until I see something positive or just lose patience and give up. Basically, my point of this post is just to urge you to look a bit closer at some of your signals, with a bit of extra attention and coil manipulation signals can change from initially good to bad or, hopefully, from initially bad to good. Also to thank this hunter for taking the time to make this vid and I enjoyed seeing another hunter's thought process, experience and skill on display. If any of us take just one thing, idea or insight from watching the vid that could make a difference for any of us even on just one stellar piece of future treasure it will be 49 minutes well spent.
  22. When I purchased the Equinox 800 many moons ago the main reason was because of its reputation for being able to find gold chains. From bench testing I knew that it would indeed give a good tone and TID on a medium sized gold chain but, unlike many of my Nox toting brethren, my 800 couldn't seem to come up with that elusive target- until yesterday. Now I don't typically use the Nox at the beach, just fresh water, and that is probably the reason for my past struggles. In the wet sand at the beach, depending on conditions, many of the lightweight, low conductor targets are washed away so when you get a low TID number there is a better chance of finding something good as compared to the lake. At the lake, the low conductor targets like aluminum foil, bits of pull-tabs and bottle caps pretty much stay where they fall making it more challenging to find the small gold since the TID's are similar. Using the Nox in Gold 2 mode and with the 6" coil I spent all day at one of my favorite freshwater sites. I was finding lots of targets and quite a bit of it was trash but, usually, this spot rewards me for my efforts and after about 3 hours I had a couple of small gold rings. One of the rings came up with a quarter in the scoop so I'm sure that I was actually hearing the coin and just got lucky. My luck continued a short time later when I scooped out low TID and found a gleaming yellow gold chain bracelet. The bracelet was somewhat stiff so my guess is that it had been there a while. It is stamped "14K Italy" and weighs 4 grams. A couple hours later I was working in water a little over waist deep when I got a strong, repeating, "1" TID on the detector. It didn't take long to retrieve it and soon I was looking at a sight that I live to see- a long, clean, glistening, gold chain hanging over the edge of my scoop- what a sight! I love finding any gold but gold chains are so rare for me that these moments are special and surreal. The chain is stamped "14K", weighs 8 grams and is 22" long. My wife likes it so one small repair and it will once again take its place in the world above ground. Obviously, I did a whole lot of digging yesterday. Most of the other jewelry is costume jewelry but there are a couple of silvers in there. I was surprised with the number of nickels that I found. I rarely find more nickels than dimes or quarters. The funny looking staple shaped object on the bottom left was actually a ring at one time. It is stamped 925 and is turned inside out. A great day in the water for me. Even after finding the gold necklace I hunted a couple more hours trying to find more gold. I wish I could have gotten a video of the gold but I, AGAIN, had GoPro problems and my disk was saying full before I found my first piece of gold. Maybe next time. GL&HH!
  23. Hi Guys, Can someone help me to understand with saving programs 800. I understand how to save one program but how many can you save in park 1 park 2 etc. Also when you want a certain program how do you seperate them to get the one you want. I am full bottle on the v3i but this is a total different layout.
  24. Hi Guys, What sort of set up are you guys using on the equinox 800 for gold jewellery in parks etc. Regards Pinpointa.
  25. Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. So the manual only tells you that certain modes have “low frequency weighting” and “ higher frequency weighting”. Otherwise a chart shows the adjustable settings that have been optimized for scenarios they describe presumably. Understandable, we get some presets. My question in title in other words: Assuming I set all adjustable settings the same for Park 1 and Field 1 (or Park 2 and Field 2), would these two modes be essentially the same? Or would the non-adjustable portion of the “1” modes and the “2” modes still be different? Thank you for your insight. If this has been covered in another post, a link is appreciated as my search did not lead to an answer.
