2D Display Top and Lower Half Meaning?
UT Dave replied to CliveHamy's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
So... Wondering out loud here. The manual for the Manticore indicates some potential separation improvement with lower upper limits. And some potential depth improvement with lowered lower limits. What I'm not sure about, is whether those potential benefits come with "Horseshoe/All Metal". Regardless of ferrous limits. Or, do those potential benefits still require reduced (lower numbers) ferrous limits? I've been playing with reduced upper and lower limits a lot the last few months and do see, I think some separation and depth improvement. But I can't say if those improvements apply equally or more with default ferrous limits in Horseshoe/All Metal. Just have not done those kind of back to back comparisons. - Dave -
SPL And P Lease, What's The Difference?
davsgold replied to Ethan in Adelaide's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
it's only better gold because you can peg an SPL on a live Exploration lease and if you do the research you could peg some real good ground, mind you the holder of the E can object and you will have to negotiate or take it to the Wardens court. Pegging a P on vacant ground is easy and not many complications but sometimes it's vacant because, well because.......not much gold has been found in the area, but that just might mean it's still there waiting to be found, perhaps!!! -
Nokta/Minelab/Garrett Sold On AliExpress
kac replied to CleotisJames's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
If legitimate machines it's possible. Ali Express is much like Amazon here. I would stick with suppliers you know here anyways. -
I always thought that "quieter" automatically mean less sensitivity and less depth. Something has to give; you can't have it both ways. I wonder if there ever will be a detector technology that does not have to compromise. The Z with the NF-DOD coil appears to have a good balance in this regard (IMO). Re 6000 at low gain, only sensitivity to shallow gold is mostly maintained, but depth-loss is significant in my experience. GC

VRM is the stuff that’s sticking to a magnet in pics here about’s, basically it’s the magnetic component of the ground including X and is what kills depth in any metal detector. I only used the early QED’s, the ones Reg used and not the later variants. I’m a detecting tragic and am entitled to buy my own detectors, form my own opinions and comment where I see fit. From what I’m seeing the Algo uses a similar technique to the QED and the Axiom to deal with VRM and Conductive, namely a huge dead zone that a target signal has to break through to be heard. This makes it seem quiet but kills edge of detection. On the Algo I had to increase the sensitivity well above 20 to get any depth but it came at the price of instability. If you read all the reports here (some are prolific in words 😳) you see over and over again comments about EMI immunity and hot rock and ground noise immunity. How do you think that is achieved in a PI? Especially an early sampling PI that only has normal type timings? The things being touted as positives and revolutionary for this approach are in reality negatives, they have to be! “I can turn it on inside with a mono coil attached” BIG 🚩, “I can ground balance out nasty hot rocks” BIG 🚩, “It runs quiet over the nastiest of hot ground” BIG 🚩. Another BIG 🚩 is the lack of complaints about conductive signal, why you ask? Well a very early sampling PI will suffer terribly from conductive signals, so I can guarantee its there in spades in the fine mode, but it’s filtered out (Also explains why the Sadie is so popular, smaller coils equals less conductive signals). I’m not trying to be a negative Nelly here, but honestly I’m tired of cleaning my morning coffee off my iPad ☕️ 🙆♂️ You can easily adjust the 6000 down and still have better depth by lowering the manual sensitivity to minimum and turning off the threshold, runs pretty quiet then and still has oodles of grunt (I do realise it’s not a fair comparison but the 6000 keeps getting mentioned as not handling ground the Algo can). You can do similar with a 5000, just lower the Stabilizer and put on a DD coil in mono mode for sensitivity. 7000 put audio smoothing on high and lower the sensitivity, but be prepared to watch your depth reduce significantly. So what’s trying to be achieved by the Aglo? Very early sampling for tiny gold and ground noise reduction thanks to PI compared to a VLF. So compared to a GoldMonster the Algo looks great, it has a lot better depth and really good small target response in variable soils, but it’s not as good as the GM on the really tiny stuff. Its deliberately designed to run quiet, that’s the way the filters are set up which gives a good impression when comparing, and of course the price point is very attractive for a PI. I’m not saying it’s a bad detector, but I am saying some of the marketing verbiage needs to have some Algo filters applied to avoid 🚩 🚩 being waved around. In my opinion the Algo Force is the QED done right hence its market acceptance and popularity. This is just my humble opinion and I’m more than happy to stand to be corrected. JP

I'm looking for a Minelab GP-3500, GP-3000, GP-Extreme, SD-2000D, GP-4500, or GP-4000 or similar series (5000, if the price is right, especially if modded for increased adjustment of pulse timing / frequency. Also seeking a drag coil paired / matched to one of the aforementioned if you have a setup like that for sale. Located in North Central Sierra Nevada foothills, California. Local preferred, but open to having it shipped from a trusted forum member.

Battery Holder For Tesoro Lobo?
Steve Herschbach replied to Carl Dodson's topic in Compass, Tesoro, Troy, Etc.
They were shorter than the normal 4 AA holder. Do you have an exact length in millimeters? This one from Garrett might work but I'm not sure. Here is what the original looked like (two are needed): -
Over the just finished 24 season I have used the Algo with a homebuilt coil, built following Chets instructions. The Algo like the 6K has been assumed to not have depth by what "appears" to be a majority of users, this assumption I have proved in many digs to be incorrect. I use mainly the 6K because it is the lightweight king IMO but as I`ve said before the Algo is "barking at the heels of the 6K", with further coil development by knowledgeable fellows like Chet, Rohan etc, the Algo may be king as the Z has proved to be with X coils. Assumptions do not get gold, feet on the ground gets gold.

Nice post, GB. 👍 Valuable info. I have a hill behind my house that is littered with Mason jars and lids, unfortunately although I dug most all of them, none contained any treasure. 😢 On my Equinox 600, a mason jar lid was a 24/25, and on the Deus 2 it varies in the 75-85 range, and I dig them all. I think I recall finding one lid at this beach but it wasn't connected to anything. If anything what was holding these coins was iron or some kind of similar metal. 🤔 I hear lots of iron. Digging it all would probably get me in trouble, so I dig the smaller iron signals. Of course they could simply have washed down the drainage long ago. 😅

I can't see anything I prefer on the QED over the Algoforce, for example the manual ground balance was a bit of a nightmare on the QED whereas the Algo is tracking the ground showing you when you get towards being out of balance and then you do a quick ground grab to fix it up, this is better than the older GPX series for those that wanted to run in fixed and rightly or wrongly almost everyone ran in fixed rather than tracking and used their little green button whenever they felt a balance would be beneficial and they had to judge when the balance was shifting, with the Algo it shows you on the screen so you can rely on that as well as your own ability to tell you when to balance. This makes life much easier especially for those newer to detecting. All reports are the Algo's very forgiving in ground. I've not found ground that its been a problem in, but I don't have terrible ground, it handles all of my hot rocks very well though, and all reports are it handles ground well, the QED was more questionable on ground handling I thought with people in some places saying it was a big problem. The last QED update I got on mine lowered its sensitivity as they were trying to make it handle ground better, I had to send it to Australia to get this update, so I'd have to send it back to Australia to get the update rolled back, the Algo has benefitted greatly by having USB updates, with a constant evolution of the firmware to benefit end users and its quick and easy to do. The Algo hits on smaller gold than the QED much like the 6000, down to about the same size too with the 6000 having a bit more depth on it, this is another reason why the Algo owners are popping up regular gold is the small gold ability of the detector, these new generation coils like the Sadie MKII improve that even further so I'm glad they've rehashed the older models with newer winding technology to benefit detectors like the Algoforoce. I'll pull the pin on the Sadie once I can get one, the NZ NF dealer seems to have no interest in stocking their coils anymore so I will likely have to get it from Phasetech in Australia.

Third Visit To The Beach Brings More Silver

On the RH side of this photo is shown the most common mason jar lid used for possibly as much as a century (ca 1860-1960): I have a small collection of those from my mother. I've also found several while detecting, often badly deteriorated. I've unintentionally broken some of the milk glass liners during recovery. FWIW, this photo shows how they were actually sealed: A rubber gasket was squeezed against a flange on the jar when the lid was tightened. Quite a bit different than how commercial jars are sealed today. In contrast to galvanized (a special method of zinc coating of) steel, I'm pretty sure these lids are pure zinc, or at least an alloy which is mostly zinc. As far as detecting, the ones I've dug tend to ID in the zinc penny range. I've been considering burying one in my test garden. As Caleb points out, these were quite popular for hiding a money stash so knowing how they respond can be a valuable skill when cache hunting.- 15 replies

New Rutus Detector Announced

Alain ... would be able to answer this question well... Vicente... because he has been using Aka INTRONIK for some time... and he really has some experience with it... And he also often compared them in depth with the top detectors he owns../Deus2 with a large coil, Detech Relic Striker with a large coil/.. Before my Aka Intronik testing, I consulted with Vincente about the possibilities of setting and the use of individual programs for this detector.. his advice was valuable.. and enabled me to understand the characteristics of individual programs of the detector as well as the situations where individual types of programs can be used... for example according to the type and mineralization of the terrain.. from my point of view after the first testing,, on my slightly mineralized test field, I can see the depth superiority of the Intronik on all three coils I own... and what is important, I can see the sensitivity of the depth superiority on various large coins... and that gives me a lot to think about... 19mm gold coin/10 crown FJ 1905/.. gives an excellent signal at 40 centimeters..and 19.7mm gold coin/ducat FJ 1915/ is detectable at 44 centimeters deep.. even in the test for a 1/24 copy /5.5 mm low conductive target/ at 11 centimeters of depth, the detection signal is really good..you get a good signal even if you sweep with the coil 3 centimeters above the ground...

Vicente, I know what you're talking about... he's definitely a guy who knows what he's doing, and he knows this terrain very well...👍

Would point out to JP that the ALGO has seen more colour posted since release, than the QED in the last 4 years! And I would not have expected one of the head ML testers to rate a budget machine, in any position that would effect ML sales. While the QED in days past may have had depth on the Algo. The Algo would more than match the current version, and offers a plethora of extra features and usability.
