  1. Past hour
  2. Brake caliper rebuild kits, filing ignition points, rebuilding Coleman lanterns, canning anything edible, I'd still die in Alaska🙂
  3. A pump serving a distant mineral processing project would be considered a part of the mining processing machinery. That would be a violation.
  4. Today
  5. But if lotsa people here on DP are publishing dozens of ounces being found, you'd be lining up quite quickly. Remember the power of FOMO....
  6. Wow! I had no idea that my Cantonese was so good! Anyhoooo.... just coz it shows Tertiary alluvium, doesnt mean its gonna be good.....but still better than vacant areas on the geo map which are usually deep alluvium, where no outcrops can be seen. Absolutely worth a look.
  7. What an adventure. Times like that are ones to remember. I'm so glad you found something nice. I wish you many more great hunts. Never stop Dirt Fishing, it's good for the nerves and your character!
  8. California ranks first in the U.S. for agricultural cash receipts. More than 50 billion $$$ a year. None of that could happen if you couldn't run pumps in or near waterways. There is no law prohibiting the pumping of water or the use of water pumps.
  9. Hi Carl I looked at FEM software but it looked like a little learning curve to get up to speed. And I wasn’t convinced that it would do that much for me. I am so use to Excel that for some things I just do tedious measurements and plot the results. Have a good day, Chet
  10. I agree with Bob's comment: "The fact that all of us are still waiting on Garrett and this topic is now up to 15 pages tells me we all want Garrett to succeed in giving us a new model." If you really are upset about Garrett's teaser campaign, then stop posting about the Storm. From what I can see, their teaser campaign is working just fine given the amount of activity on this forum about the detector. As to everyone who is demanding that Garrett say something regarding this delay that isn't a delay at all, what would you have them say? "Uh, we found a major bug in final testing and are addressing the issue." This will bring out a wave of haters bashing Garrett for any number of reasons. Poor quality, lousy testers, blah blah blah. "We had a supply chain issue when a barge full of parts for the Storm hit a WWII submerged mine and was blown to bits." Garrett will get destroyed for using non-U.S. Parts. "Our series of videos on the Storm were hacked by Minelab and Nokta in a joint covert operation that resulted in the Storm being renamed "The Drizzle." Well you never know... I'm sorry guys but in my opinion Garrett owes us nothing in terms of an explanation of why the Storm isn't out yet. I have no idea why it hasn't been released but here's a news flash: it will be. I recall when Nokta announced the release of their new lighter shaft and arm cuff and guys were having heart attacks because they couldn't get one right away. And that was for a frigging shaft and arm cuff! Bottom line: every person on this forum who is offended by Garrett's perceived ignoring of all of us will be fighting to get a Storm if turns out to be a winner. As for me, I'm going to the beach in the morning to detect despite the fact that I don't have a Storm or know when it's finally going to be released. Somehow I'll manage. Bill
  11. A well know prospector from home is doing a lot of research and design with bilge pumps and dredging. He has already designed impellers with a remarkable increase of 39.8% efficiency from 12 volt electric bilge pumps. He is now designing a dredge which can be operated by using a bilge pump with a dredging system, on a more portable basis for rivers and beach sands. I thought I would show you his work so far and the direction he is headed. His dredge design video link below.......... His impeller designs below.
  12. Went to a local school that I've never found anything good at in the past. Lots of play areas and ball fields but lots of junk. Today was different. these finds are indeed meager compared to some other places but for this place that has never given anything more than a penny here and there this is the best hunt yet at that dead zone. I was surprised because I had dug quite a few aluminum can tabs today. The location is littered with them and other great things like screws, can slaw, loads of 10-11 ID foil, and even larger pieces of foil heading up to the 30-33 range. I was hoping for a ring but every time I dug a ring looking ID and sounded good it was an aluminum can tab. Did find a kids earring, complete with the back on it. Obviously junk but still a small target fished out of a pile of other lesser interesting junk. I didn't include a picture of all the can tabs, can slaw, and pieces of pressed copper pipe. Best thing was the US Dollar coin. Only the second one I've found metal detecting. This brings the Legend up even with the Equinox 800 on those. Does anyone else ever take a little while to get "warmed up" when detecting? I seem to peak at about the 45 minute to 1 hour mark and really connecting with the machine and also the feel of the place I'm hunting. At about the 2 hour mark it wanes a bit and the arm gets to hurting, but I've pushed it pretty hard the past few hunts and extending out the hunt time. Tendonitis sucks. And I had a messed up eye today. Chronic dry eye and rubbing real hard when you wake up equals a BLOODSHOT eye. Went to eye doc and got some stuff. Looks rough but is essentially a bruise in the eye. Looks like death though.. LOL Not my first time having it over the years. Even with one eye not 100% and tendonitis in my swing arm still found stuff in a crappy location!! YEAH that is what it is all about!
  13. Yesterday
  14. I hit the HA-HA button Lodge Scent even though that scenario would not be funny. It would be however a train wreck for Garrett and honestly I can't imagine that being the case or old Charlie god rest his soul would roll over in his grave.I'm one of those people hoping that they knock it out of the park as I have used their detectors since the 1970's and would surely buy one.
  15. Yes spot on Aureous. This is right side of Carey lake where I got permission to prospect E 39/1957, 1812 and 1958. I have just learned to check Geo surface map most says CZL is good alone with AB etc. I just found except for E 39/1957 the other two appears not have any CZL nor AB. Well should I invest time to go? or...? @得到AU?
  16. For Garrett's sake I really hope it is worth the wait. There are a LOT of people hoping it will be a viable American alternative to the high performing foreign made machines. But if the performance isn't there, it won't be pretty for Garrett. Let's hope it's not another Jase Robinson Signature Edition Camo embarrassment.
  17. I've never ever been skunked - ever. Now there a few times when to come home with any less gold I'd of had to take a nugget with me while detecting and leave it, but I always come home with something valuable. Sometimes in my pouch and sometimes in my head.
  18. And first availability by end 2025 would mean that I would not buy a unit before end 2026, at the earliest. Given what happened to the 6000, it would appear prudent to wait for at least a year so they can figure out all the bugs (hopefully). For a 10k investment I wouldn't feel like packing it up and shipping it to the service center just 1-2 months after I bought it.... GC
  19. I'm sure it's no coincidence that people who live in remote places often tend to be more self-sufficient and better at make-do-and-mend (a bit like our grandparents and the generations before them).
  20. You nail it Norvic, that's exactly the same for me. I have about a handful areas where I practically always find some gold, I would say 9/10 times if I work hard. But to me that is not the kick, at least not mostly. Enjoying a beautiful day outdoors hiking and perhaps finding a virgin patch is what motivates me the most. And in these cases I get skunked most of the time, with some exceptions here and there. But this does not bother me a bit. It is the journey that matters, not the destination. 🤠 GC
  21. California has very specific laws about how to do what you want. Probably best to follow the law as written, agencies tend to give the answers they want you to hear. Placer Mining Water Pollution Section 3964. No placer mining operator shall mine by the placer process on any stream or on the watershed of any stream tributary directly or indirectly to the Sacramento River or the San Joaquin River without taking both of the following precautions to prevent pollution of the stream by the effluent from his or her operations: (a) Constructing a settling pond or ponds of sufficient size to permit the clarification of water used in the mining processes before the water is discharged into the stream. (b) Mixing with the effluent from mining operations aluminum sulphate and lime, or an equivalent clarifying substance which will cause the solid material in the effluent to coagulate and thus avoid rendering the water in the stream unfit for domestic water supply purposes. 3961. Any person, firm, or corporation who engages in the operation of a placer mine on any stream or on the watershed of any stream tributary directly or indirectly to the Sacramento River or the San Joaquin River shall record a verified statement in the office of the county recorder of the county in which his or her mine is situated, within 30 days after the commencement of operations. You can read the rest of California mines and mining law here: https://law.justia.com/codes/california/2022/code-prc/division-3-5/
  22. Lets just hope it doesn't have the issues the 6000 had. D4G
  23. That's the truth right there. I am with you on that score. I was at a spot the other day that I had not been to for ages as my first time there I got nothing. I have learnt a lot more since then. The other day there were signs of old dig holes & scrapes not backfilled but had grassses growing in them. I saw no recent activity so the thought crossed my mind that maybe there just isn't any gold left. Obviously at one point there was & I had to believe that there still was. The area was high above a gold rich river that was littered with old worked ground. Water races & tailing races cutting through the schist bedrock, layers of stacked rock of both river/glacial & also broken up bed rock. Lots of exposed schist bedrock but mother nature was doing its best to repair the scars that mankind had inflicted & was quite quickly now covering the bedrock. I saw some scaley rotted flakey schist bedrock on the edge of a steep drop off down into the river. Waved my coil very slowly over it & got a faint signal. Scraped away at it & it was a small bit of gold. Then another. Then nothing. That run of bedrock then started to have a layer of deeper material over it & for no other reason than the bedrock had coughed up some bits of gold for me I just scraped away some of that material to get the coil closer to the bedrock. Bingo.... more gold. This bedrock ran along to a quite big crevice that had a small dead tree in it but with the branches sticking out everywhere I couldn't get my coil in there. I went back to my iron horse & grabbed a pair of loppers I had in there & trimmed off all the branches & managed to break out the trunk. Long story short, I got three nice little bits of gold for just shy of 2 grams. Moral of this yarn is that no gold is easy gold & you need to do a bit of rock & material removal to get your coil into those spots that the gold likes to hide in & that nobody else has bothered to do or just didn't think about doing it. You will be surprised at the gold left behind. D4G
  24. A very interesting thread. Jason: No, adding ferrite won't help, it'll just make the coil heavy. The only exception is in a pinpointer where a ferrite rod is used to concentrate the field. This works well in a PI or energy theft pinpointer which use a mono coil. When you use an IB coil the RX must be air-cored so, ferinstance, the White's TRX has the TX coil wound on a ferrite rod but the RX coil is on a plastic bobbin. If this concept were used in a regular detector, you would have a big long ferrite for the TX coil with the RX underneath, so the coil is 8" thick and weighs 20 lbs. Chet: Have you ever tried using FEM software?
  25. Possibly would. In 2019 we processed with a trommel & dug by a creek with no issues & was in the plan of operation. The Forest Service came by & told us to stay 50 ft from the creek. On the other hand, Fish & Game came by & wanted us to stop but we showed the permit & kept going. They didn't like it but left us alone. Now the rules have changed.
  26. Even though the 2nd model is supposedly for Relic use, my names avoided the 'Relic' word coz it also represents a derogatory term (a non-useful discarded item) and therefore could be misconstrued negatively. Also, the name 'Storm' is already trademarked by Garrett.
