  2. I do recall, Gerry I think, posting a dealer list of some sort early on that had an M9 on it. Seemed weird at the time. Still seems weird. - Dave
  3. The OP video alludes to the M9 being Concentric (or Coaxial, if elliptical) vs. DD, however, the Serious Detecting link states its a 9" DD elliptical without any mention of the width and also shows a pic of the M8, so that should all be taken with a grain of salt. M9 (9" DD elliptical) makes little sense with the M8 out there already, too similar. A concentric/coaxial, though, is a different beast altogether and, if true, raises some interesting possibilities as well as being the first concentric/coaxial coil released for any of the post-Equinox crop of SMF detectors released by any of the major detector manufacturers (ML, XP, Nokta, Garrett, or Quest). But right now just unverified rumor and hearsay. If ML is actually sticking with a DD elliptical form factor, a 10x5 or 10x6 (M10 DD elliptical) makes a little more sense, similar coverage to the M11 but with weight savings and slightly less depth as the tradeoff. So the M9 seems to be a real thing but we just don't know what it's specs will be other than one dimension will likely be 9". Frankly, these ML accessory coil marketing/design decisions (what to make and when to deliver it) appear to have little rhyme or reason. But if the rumor is true regarding the M9 being concentric/coaxial, that is compelling. Wouldn't necessarily be a great choice for hot dirt, though, as a DD has slightly more depth in that case. We'll see...
  4. Instead to edit, I can add what it seems if we talk about a round 9" and not an elliptical 9"... Is this an attempt by Minelab to declare battle against the D2 with the same shape and inches to show which one can performs better?🫢
  5. I don't know if this is true or a marketing idea to boost some traffic to the dealer's website, but knowing what the M8 can do against the M11, I hardly see an advantage with a middle sized coil now. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of elliptical but an inch more now it appears to be a joke... Especially cause that would be "the one coil" among all of them excluding the M15...Just my experience aniway😂

  8. Doc, Good video. I think you probably posted much of your stuff on websites that are no longer available. You may consider going through some of your archives when it gets hot again this summer and posting some here. We'll enjoy them. I've never been to your Henderson location. Is the invite still open to come by to all of us who get a chance? Mitchel
  9. All, A family friend is interested in getting a detector for his 10 y/o son who is interested in detecting. Obviously, they would prefer to stay as cheap as possible in case he doesn’t like detecting. I have no doubt someone here has gone down this path and can provide some excellent advice on good choices for a 10 y/o. Thanks in advance.
  10. The values in the manual are generally accurate. Discrimination works great on a coin as the coin is always the same. Gold jewelry however an be any size and shape and the numbers vary due to that. Even coins, a small silver coin reads lower than a medium silver coin, and a medium coin reads lower than a large silver coin. A tiny silver ear ring will read lower than them all. An old cut hammered silver coin, very thin, can read quite low. In general gold reads in the lower half of the scale but a large gold coin can read quite high. In general silver reads in the upper half of the scale, but hammered silver can read quite low. The biggest generality of all is that the larger the item, the higher it reads. Aluminum, gold, and lead all overlap completely. If you hunt gold jewelry you will actually mostly dig aluminum. Rejecting any aluminum item will come at the risk of rejecting a certain gold item. aluminum foil from gum wrapper 40 - 55 aluminum pull-tab 60 - 75 aluminum screw-cap 70 - 80 aluminum soda pop can 75 - 85 https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/3523-target-id-vdi-numbers-for-gold-nuggets-and-gold-jewelry/
  11. The Deus1 program the most used in France is Deus FAST nr3 by far . It is faster than BASIC1 and will be much more performing on nails beds . This on moderately or medium mineralized soils . When I had a D1 , I was using the Deus2 factory program with 5 tones instead of 3 tones (3 is the default setting ) , thats all .. On high mineralized soils I dont know we dont have such extreme conditions over here ...

  13. LOST GOLD AT THE DEAD MAN’S MINE * DREAMWIND CANYON GOLD May 1 2003 Part One The Crew Meets Up Spring was here and our new mining season was about to begin. Perhaps I should call it our new exploration and adventure season for now. I was the first to arrive at camp a few days ago and got most everything set up for the crew. The camp was temporary and located at the area we had used last year at the upper dig site. At some point we would need to relocate camp further northeast near the entrance to Dreamwind Canyon. A trail would need to be cut to get up there using off road vehicles. This was going to be quite a project and I was not sure how long it would take. During the off season the crew had stayed in touch with each other and we worked out a rough plan to begin exploration. We purchased three side by side off road 4X4’s with beds on the back to carry equipment as well as two old Willys Jeeps and small trailers for hauling supplies. Along with that we added new and more powerful walkie talkies. We were all well armed as well. We would be heading into totally unknown and dangerous territory - Dreamwind Canyon. Dreamwind Canyon was half legend and half myth. There were no markings or names for it on the maps but it was a remote section of a larger canyon just to the south. The name had supposedly been given to it by the Indians who claimed that when the hot winds blew through the 300 foot high canyon walls they would take control of your mind and cause you to hallucinate and see all kinds of crazy things. I take all of these old stories with a grain of salt but there are very few people who will venture into this area. There are credible stories of prospectors disappearing up there and never heard from again. Some say the canyon is haunted and cursed. Rumors of huge quantities of gold have also been talked about by the old timers. There are no trails to get into the canyon and the hike is extremely difficult. Supposedly the area is infested by rattlesnakes and plenty of mountain lion. Yet somehow our crew has agreed to throw in with Paul and explore this place. By late morning Clay and Paul had arrived and not long after Jacob and Conor pulled in with his truck and trailer loaded up with supplies. We all shook hands and fixed up a nice lunch. It sure felt good to be back with the crew again. We all liked Paul. He was 73 years old and in very good shape. He was the prospector we had met last year and had done so much exploration in the canyon previously including finding a large gold nugget. Paul and Jacob had become good friends and Paul was able to convince us that there was a large amount of gold in the canyon just waiting to be discovered. He figured the canyon was the source of the gold for the Dead Man’s Mine. If he was correct there could be millions of dollars in nuggets up there.
  14. Why not take it to Fl.? I wouldn't be able to stand having a new toy and not being able to try it out right away. 😛
  15. Big chunks of steel still fool the Deus. No matter what prog you use they appear as good silver target I have dug too many holes which turn out to be big chunks of steel from farm machinary

  17. Good catch, I missed that. Same seller has the M9 listed on EBay with the M8 price. My Manticore, M8, ProFind40 and XP Backpack was delivered Thursday! I look forward to checking it out when I return from FL next week. 🙂 Curious, what the M9 will offer from the M8? (Will check out the video later today)

  20. It sounds like a big rig truck term to me . I guess maybe on a tractor or bulldozer.🤔 Definitely could be used to describe that big claw they're using in Baltimore though . A blender? Seriously , what were they thinking ? They really missed the ball on that swing.🙄 The blender should have had a tornadomode . On a detector it would obviously be referred to as plundermode ! In plundermode it would only beep over gold or silvarrrrrrrr .🏴‍☠️
  21. Hi Doc. Well done on the nugget. What do you use the strap thing fitted below your detector hand for? Is it a wrist brace of some sort?
  22. This is my long held SOP.....just as Joe D detailed in his post. It's all about recovery time.
  23. Dave, If you're on this forum. Did your idea every come to fruition? Thanks, George.
  24. i lengthened my hermit pick to 40 inches long just for the purpose of using it as a walking pick and also to assist me in getting back up off the ground but a broken back when I was younger and knee injuries are finally starting to take their toll on me, its not that I eat bad or anything its just the stupid injuries @Doc I have never been a big sweet eater at all I would rather eat a piece of beef jerky as to eat a Doughnut or a bowl of ice cream, a bad car wreck back in 92 that broke my back and injured my knees have just finally caught up, so I just have a really hard time getting up when I go down to retrieve targets, it started getting hard to even swing a detector until I started using some of your products, they have helped a ton, but not in the getting up off the ground part, so I figured what did I have to loose by adding that kneeling bench to the gear I carry with me to assist in getting back up, I have been using it for about a week and it has made a huge difference for me, I am willing to try anything to keep me detecting LOL, I do have an recumbent bike that has an elliptical thing that I use everyday by doing 2-4 miles on it everyday.
  25. I'm going to tell you a little secret. January 1 this year I weigh 178.9 pounds. I said this is ridiculous. I could not get up without grabbing a hold of something. I had to make sure I was leaning against a wall to put my socks on because I could not balance on one foot. I thought well, you're 75, you're too fat to be sure. So I thought I would go on a no cheat diet and start walking 4 miles on the treadmill every day. I now weigh 154. Guess what. I can get up without help. I stand on one leg and put my socks on just fine. I didn't realize the big problem was not my age, it was that I was top heavy. Put a 25 lb bag of dog food on your shoulder and see how much harder it is to do everything. Listen don't think this was easy for me it wasn't. I love all the bad stuff. PASTA, Bread, Chips, Tortillas, Chocolate, Ice Cream, Pie, did I mention Ice Cream? Yeah well that stuff is not on my menu anymore. I eat protein (MEAT) and vegetables. No sweets, no starches, no bread products. Darn I would kill for a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts. My goal is to get down to 150, and then to start to tone my body and build some lean muscle. At 75 who knows how much longer I have left. I want to make damn sure I look great when I kick the bucket. "How'd Doc die do you know?" "Not for sure but someone told me he was just finishing his third slab of ribs and choked on a bone." LOL Doc
