Im a little undecided now. I get the feeling its going to be great on small gold at depth which my zed with the 10" coil already is. (much better than the gpz14) I can also buy other aftermarket coils that will perform better than the original on different size gold. I like the simplicity of the 6000 but for me its all about performance, nothing else. Im now thinking a ktm or husky dirt bike might be a better choice for finding gold. Ive got areas my Ranger Raptor wont get into and my electric mountain bike runs out of battery power to quickly. So a motor bike could be handy. Still undecided at this stage. I dont think ill be getting one day dot but rather hearing feedback first.

Could it be a gpz killer? Someone who knows a tester mentioned that you may see a lot of gpz's advertised shortly. There wasnt a HUGE difference between a 5000 and 7000 IMO. If the 6000 narrows that gap why would future buyers consider buying the flagship detector (gpz). I havnt used a 3030 but many seem to think that the nox800 is close in ablity at half the price.

For me, it has to have performance greater than the 5000. I couldn't care less about batteries, leads, speakers or screens. Performance is the only reason ill upgrade a detector. Here in Australia "Little Ripper Gold Inc" has formed a not for profit group that has 4 or 5 claims already and will be using members yearly fee of $100 to buy more. Best stand i ever saw was on my previous trip away when i met a couple of guys with sdc's. One had made a fold out leg that attached to the sdc. When folded out the sdc stood upright. He said it helped him not have to bend down to pick up the machine all the time off the ground (bad back or knee). From memory he would stand the sdc upright then use his pick to scrape the ground. Only when he had the target located would he bend down to the ground to retrieve it

Sorry guys, have changed the topic title to read WM12 instead of Prosonic. Just trying to get some feedback if bypassing the WM12 wireless system and plugging a booster and headphones into the Zed directly gives a better or clearer target response.

Plug in a booster/headphones into the WM12 (Gpz7000) or plug it directly into the 7000?? Obviously, wire-free would be more convenient but would the signal be clearer/stronger going hardwired? (I'm not concerned about the minute bit of lag when using a wireless system) Thought i would ask before testing this on my next trip.

As mentioned in the thread post, the coil is a from NuggetFinder. By the pictures it looks to be 12”. Wouldn’t know what other sizes they plan on doing

I asked a Minelab dealer whether the new coil will have a patch lead or not. His reply was the chip will be built into the lead and not requiring a patch lead. Good news for those that are paranoid about chopping the chip off a standard coil and making a patch lead. Coil is due out (in Australia) at the end of June.

Thanks so much for this write up on the Nox. Its given me a real enthusiasm to get out and try mine a lot more. The first time i used it i hated it but with some wise words from Steve H about lowering the sensitivity until i got the hang of the machine I’ve begun to like it a lot. Until now I have only got it out when at a caravan park to scab up some coins around my campsite. I think i might just get myself a few new coils and a swing arm and start actually using it more now.

Wish i knew what the next detector from Minelab is going to be. Having seen how good the SDC is on minute gold I would love to buy one and add one of these coiltek coils to the mix. BUT, got this funny feeling Minelab might be going after the masses again like they have with the last few detectors and release a pretty good machine at a cheap price. One chap that seems to be in the know mentioned on Facebook that the new machine would sit between the SDC and the GPX5000. Buggered if i know if that’s anywhere even remotely close to the truth but i think I’ll wait and see before committing on the SDC. I’m no expert but feel that the equinox for the price is not miles off the performance of the CTX 3030 which is twice the price. Could it be possible that the new detector could have timings that are comparable to a SDC and GPX in one machine at a cheap price?? I’m not sure what Minelabs goal is but I’m wondering if they make more money selling lots of cheaper detectors or fewer expensive ones. Only thinking out loud so please don’t tar and feather me, lol

Thanks for replying and sorry if i asked a question that caused any problems. It must be enjoying sometimes being a tester and always having to analyze everything you say or show. Anyhow i only asked as we hobbyist hang of what you and other influences do (to hopefully increase our chances of success). On looking at that coil and thinking it may be the 19” i was thinking maybe i should be using a larger coil more myself.

What coil JP? Coil shape in one of the pictures almost seems like the shape of the gpz19.

I think i may have asked this question before but interested in others opinion so will ask again. Would XRF machines be accurate enough to sample soil for traces of gold? Amagine how good it would be to use one as a tool for loaming, instead of collecting soil and panning it. They arnt cheap though, up around $30k in Australia im told.

Its a bit of a hassle to put my hands on my gold as i have it stored away in a safe place. When i add to my gold collection next (obviously when i can go detecting again ... and find something) I’ll take a photo and post it up. The dead giveaway that something’s not quite right is the rounded bits are a different colour than the rest of the nugget, the gold seems shinier.

Talking about wrecking a nugget.... I was showing a mate a couple of 1/2 ounce nuggets to a mate and forgot i'd left them in my pocket. My wife refuses to check my pants pockets so they went through the wash. The sharp edges of the nuggets were rounded off, i guess it was from tumbling around in the (front load) washing machine.

To Fred’s family and friends, I’m sorry for your loss. I never met Fred but always enjoyed his humour when he commented on peoples posts. When i saw a comment from the man in the pink/red shirt i knew it would either be witty, funny or kind. May you find some comfort in knowing that many others thought highly of him, including myself

Is there a way to sample ground drypanning without water?

I used to use a hip mounted pick holder also but found the pick used to keep hitting my legs when i walked. I now place the pick between the strap on the pro harness and my lower back. Saw the young girl on Aussie Gold Hunters do something simular so got the idea from her although she hangs hers off to the side. no more pick bouncing around when i walk and also has the benifit of keeping metal away from the 20" coil.

Thats an interesting explination. So thanks for sharing that. I always thought it was the ground balance at work. 3 or 4 swings usually gets rid of ground noise so i presumed that as you swing back and forth over a target it was removing some of the competing ground noise allowing the gold signal to stand out.
