  1. The first one that Joe showed is great I have used mine for years when bushwalking. It was more than great for digging holes for toilet use in all ground type. The titanium is super.
  2. Digging tools can be heavy also. Consider a custom or self made digger from a light material. Duralumin is used in aircrafts/aeroplanes because it is stronger as compared to steel and also for the fact that it is lighter in weight. A source could be found from a wrecked plane.

  5. Alaska's gain our lost Paul. Here in Victoria the worst hit by covid19 in Aust. compared to a lot of Country we were lucky but not for the old ones in nursing homes. To-day Victoria has had 2 incubations free of Covid (24 day with no case in the state). The wife and I got the virus shot in the first roll out yesterday for the non essential health workers etc. Aust. is on the way to being immuned with the vaccine in a few months, so keep some leave up your sleeve as Alaska is not suitable for thongs.😀

  7. JR one of those two coils is a bucking coil which counteract the transmitting coil. Have anyone tested the coil in mono mode and what the results are.

  9. F350 I live in a rural area. I found that there is some hidden gems to be found by looking at old parish/shire maps. They show old schools, churches, horse race tracks, town common, picnic grounds and small hamlets that have been lost to history. Some of my maps showed up small farms and their homes, and water wells that have been shallowed up by bigger farms and no visual signs of them. Hope this gives you some help in identifying and pinpointing your opportunities.
  10. Note the field shown is the receive RX field how ever the transmit TX signal also has an effect on the responds of the coil and pinpointing.
  11. I like the two of the same, that way if your breaks you can use hers without learning another machine. Remember to tell hers, that her detector is better than yours and go deeper. That way you can save face when she get more targets (gold) than you. 😁
  12. It does not need to be a member to read this forum or most others. A small minority of "Greens" do check gold, shooting and hunting forums so they can stir up trouble with any other group that may enjoy OUR national parks and state forests. ☹️
  13. I would put location is well above detector model (80%), then experience with the chosen detector (10%) and finally the brand of detector in your price range. Remember that if you get hooked by the gold bug, you can always up grade to a high price detector, that can be covered with your finds. I have not used an Nox 800 but after picking one up with dealer I know and having a swing of it all I can say is at the end of 10 hour days I would not know how many time my gold yield would have gone up, way back in the 1980 till the PI came out.
  14. That is a POST that should be read by most people who detect. It backs up my experience. I don't discriminate at all with PI machines as junk iron is usually too shallow, if it is deep I'm detecting outside my choice of ground. With VLF machines I always lift the coil to a height that brings the volume down to a low distinct value then discriminate and not over loading the earphones and detector this would help in guessing the size and shape as you mention in the article .................I have one point of your article that needs updating ........ your 5th photo has the Quote "Can a metal detector really find deep, tiny nuggets? Author Gerry McMullen has the answer right at his fingertips! " Most of us would say that is not tiny these days 😉
  15. I hope this is not off topic. These teeth plates were detected in the sea about 20 years ago buy my brother in law who died in 2004. The 2 oz nugget was found in 1980 in Wedderburn Victoria Australia. Gold plates were commonly made by backyard denticle worker prior to gold coming of the gold standard from gold sovereign.
  16. I tried dowsing on a sunbaker got a big response my hands vibrated really strong but I guess that not fair as it was in the multiple ounce range and I could see it. 😁
  17. Taking the high figure of 30,000 tons of gold would be nearly 1 billion ounces. With a population of nearly 8 billion if it was shared equally then we all would have an eighht of a ounce each (4 grams). Well at least I have more than my share.🤑

  19. Beware of boiling hydrochloric in a non vented area. You will get a lot of fumes that are dangerous and corrosive. Don't ask how I know!

  21. I would keep it as it is, but if you are selling the gold because you can better use for the money then dolly it for quick sale. Remember once it smashed it is all over, so leave it as it is till you sell it.

I agree with the quote " I have access to stronger acids such as hydrofluoric acid in high concentration form but I advise anyone who would like to use this type of acid that it is extremely dangerous and only someone with experience and safety equipment can proceed with caution when using it." Back in the early 1980s I was involved with the operation of removal of milling scale on a large boiler. We had several truck loads of hydrofluoric acid the size of fuel trucks. It was shipped in steel tanks at a strength of 35% how ever it will attack oxides and silica ( glass ) but most important it will get into your skin will little feeling that it has happened and it will then destroy your bones. So correct usage is really needed or its deadly. Products like WHINK in Aust. are used for mag wheel cleaning and it is about 1% and has other chemical included.
  23. A Mate from my area held a nugget for 2 or 3 years trying to get a good price for a solid 96 oz nugget. At the time gold was about $800 AUD an oz. When the price went up a bit he let it go for less than 10% above gold price.
