  1. I can understand the original posters concerns about being able to adjust individual tone bin volume levels. I have some hearing loss and some audio frequencies sound much louder than others even when they are set at the same output levels. Sometimes the ones that sound louder are not really the ones I want to hear the loudest if that makes sense. Being able to lower mid tone audio responses and raise the volume level of high tone audio responses really helps me sometimes. So do different brands of headphones, etc. Hopefully the audio equalizer will help my situation when using the Deus 2 along with setting up custom tones in a saved program slot that sound good to me.
  2. I am recovering from Omicron brain fog and am basically fairly stupid anyway. So, I am confused. In your first sentence are you referring to the original Deus? Can you use something like Deus 1 so oafs like me will understand. If so, on Deus 1 not only can you not adjust the volume level of the non-ferrous tones, you can't adjust the overall volume output of the Deus 1 remote control unless you have the WS4 module with volume control, the WS5 headphones with volume control or a set of wired headphones like the FX-01s or similar with inline volume control. Also, on Deus 1 and the ORX there is no volume control for the remote control external speaker. That really is " just slap me upside the head" engineering for a $1300 Full Deus 1 price tag in my opinion. But most of the rest of the engineering and software were way ahead of their time. On Deus 2 you do have output volume control within the main remote control, whoopee. There is still no volume control for each individual non-ferrous tone. There is an audio equalizer that may help in that regard but I don't have a Deus 2 yet to test that. As far as stubble, cultivation furrows and high grass is concerned, that is what the Audio Response setting and VCO audio programs like the Relic mode and the Pitch audio setting are for in case you need to keep the coil well above the ground. If everybody so far wants to argue about the merits of this detector versus that detector, this thread may need to be moved to the Comparison topic. Lets put down our handbags, fanny pouches, finds pouches and backpacks please.
  3. The price is the same on the only site that I can find that is advertising them in the USA $399. Brand new detector technology so I can't give any Deus 2 advice. With Deus 1 and ORX, the 9" coils felt the best for me. The HF 9" was deeper and more sensitive than the original 9". I never liked swinging the 11" on the Deus 1 and ORX.....way too nose heavy. As far as depth between FMF 9" and 11". That would depend on soil mineralization. Here in Colorado I never saw any depth difference between Deus 1 and ORX 11" and 9" due to mineralization. Horizontal ground coverage was definitely better with the 11". Target separation and sensitivity to smaller targets was definitely better with the 9"........
  4. Is a Deus 1 that much better than an ORX. Absolutely. I would go $500 or more better for the coin, jewelry, relic hunter. Like Abenson said, if you want a fairly simple to operate but very limited feature coin, jewelry and relic detector, that would be the ORX. The ORX coin modes have many, many drawbacks compared to the Deus 1. Some of the biggest for me are the lack of tone options including just 3 tones, only 1 adjustable tone break, no tone pitch adjustments, no full tones, no notching, and the biggest for me in mineralized ground.....the ORX Coin mode's iron range stops at zero. The Deus 1 iron range stops at -6.4. Trust me, there are a lot of iron targets and in iron mineralization there are a lot of non-ferrous targets that have their IDs skewed into that negative iron range, that the ORX in its Coin modes will not hit, period. If you mostly want an ORX for gold prospecting with the occasional coin, jewelry and relic hunt.....the ORX Gold modes actually have more features than the Deus 1 Gold Field program and the ORX Gold mode's iron range goes all the way down to -6.4 just like Deus 1. So for me, ORX versus Deus all depends on what you will mostly be using it for. Gold prospecting get the ORX. Anything else, get the Deus 1 or if you have the money definitely get the Deus 2 and skip Deus 1 and ORX.
  5. I don't water hunt much. With the ground basically frozen and depth not important, my current everyday Nox 800 with Steve Goss graphite shaft and 10X5" Coiltek elliptical coil weighs 42 ounces or 2 lbs 10 oz. I don't use a counter weight and can swing this rig all day. My Nox 800 for gold prospecting with the 6" round coil and Detect-Ed collapsible graphite shaft weighs 38 ounces or 2 lbs 6 oz and I can swing it indefinitely. I just weighed them on an accurate scale. Both weigh ins include grip tape, coil cover tape, and Doc's arm cuff covers and straps. My XP ORX weighs 30.5 ounces or 1 lb 14.5 oz with the HF elliptical coil. If it didn't fall over all the time it would be my favorite detector ergonomically. It likes to roll down hillsides...............and I don't enjoy chasing it. I only bought one of these new. Added together, all three cost a hundred dollars more than what a new Deus 2 costs at $1600. If I was solely a freshwater/saltwater submerged hunter I would be seriously looking at the Deus 2 for sure. I haven't seen a submerged in mild to moderate surf Deus 2 dive hunt yet. How it will hold up on a regular basis in that environment.....who knows.
  6. Mine weighs 30.5 ounces with ORX controller mounted on the full shaft with HF elliptical coil, lower shaft, battery and coil cover. Waterproof kit and antenna weighs 3.8 ounces
  7. Excellent review of the XP ORX Gold modes for gold prospecting by Kevin Hoagland from Gold Prospector Magazine. If this is breaking copyright Steve, feel free to take it down. I do have a subscription. This is a great tutorial by a master user for anyone who is thinking of buying an ORX while they are super inexpensive during the pre Deus 2 release sell-off or anyone buying a Deus 2 for prospecting use. The menu and settings according to Gary Blackwell are the same........ Maybe, except for the one setting that is still unanswered which is: FMF may be the only frequency setting option. If it is, the Deus 2 will be easier to setup than the ORX since you don't have to choose an operating frequency or offsets.
  8. I don't know how I missed these two excellent videos showing how the GM 24k and ORX handle iron mineralization/magnetite. Did you try the same with the GM 24k in one tone with iron reject engaged and not engaged and with the ORX in either of its Coin modes? I have continued to do a lot of testing with the GM 24k, Equinox 800 and ORX. GM 24K and the Equinox 800 have some very advanced features and tech that are lacking on the ORX........ For me, the GM 24k is a super fancy MXT running at 48 kHz. For a person that wants most of all an outstanding gold prospecting detector with maybe some micro jewelry hunting and incidental coin/relic hunting, the GM 24K is really hard to beat. I would have a very hard time recommending the ORX instead of the GM 24K unless someone really needed the great ergonomics of the ORX most of all.
  9. Hi Hugh, thanks for the almost clarification on Gold Field and Relic being FMF only on Deus 2. I am not 100% sure either but honestly it doesn't really matter since I would try to always use FMF. I rarely use my Equinox in its Gold modes in single frequency unless EMI is just awful. As far as Disc. IAR, a serious Covid brain fog moment happened while I was editing that paragraph. What I meant to say was iron reject can be Off=0 or On set to 1 through 5. Again, I rarely use it gold prospecting. Just like you said, in magnetite, using it just confuses things and shallow to surface, tiny gold can get swallowed up by masking using the single frequency Deus 1 and ORX. Maybe........FMF will help that situation?????
  10. Hot rocks on these XPs are definitely easy to hear and identify by audio if they are big enough. However, you will hear all of them clearly. I am hoping that Deus 2’s FMF might at least unmask small gold targets better than Deus 1 and ORX single frequency.
  11. No notching on Deus 2, Deus 1 or ORX in the Gold modes………..compared to the Equinox single digit notching…….huge negative in my opinion.
  12. I can’t speak for the Deus 2 Gold Field program vs the Goldmonster 1000. I can speak for the Deus 1 and ORX vs Goldmonster 1000. Just remember currently there are four big differences at least on paper between the Deus 2 Gold Field program and the Deus 1/Orx Gold programs. Two are big positive differences in my opinion which are Deus 2 GoldField is FMF or selectable single frequency and Deus 1/ORX is just single frequency. Deus 2 also has a choice of PWM VCO or Square Wave VCO audio. One big negative is the lack of a small elliptical coil for Deus 2. Deus 1 and ORX have the 9.5X5” elliptical. The other somewhat negative is Deus 2 highest single frequency is roughly 45 kHz. Deus 1 and ORX highest single frequency is 81 kHz. Compared to the Goldmonster 1000 vs Deus 1/ORX, Goldmonster 1000 is fully automated with the iron probability screen and iron reject and sensitivity adjustments along with 2 great coils. Deus 1 and ORX in Gold modes are basically threshold based all metal modes on steroids with ground grab ground balancing, iron reject on or off, iron audio on or off, VCO 1 tone audio, reactivity/recovery speed adjustments, threshold volume adjustments, 0 to 99 target ID, iron probability graph, mineralization graph, depth graph, pinpoint, internal rechargeable batteries and wireless audio. As far as performance in hot ground, adjustability to handle hot ground and overall features AND incredible ergonomics…….I would pick the Deus 1/ORX and Deus 2. As far as ease of setup and automation in more moderate ground, Goldmonster 1000. Sensitivity to small gold is similar…we are talking 1/2” difference or less depending on ground conditions and if one is using the HF 9.5X5” elliptical coil with Disc. IAR OFF. If Deus 2’s FMF simultaneous multi frequency really can pretty much make the ground be fairly easy to see through in hot iron mineralization much like only the Equinox 800 can currently down to about 6”……….that would be a huge plus for Deus 2 compared to any detector currently made which is what makes the Equinox 800 such a good gold prospecting detector. XP claims in their Deus 2 manual that it will see through bad ground. No proof for me yet. We will see, just like we will see how the Legend performs in similar conditions.
  13. Deus 1 and ORX owners who have the money and plan on detecting a lot.......its a no brainer, get the Deus 2. I like the Legend too but not as an equal competitor of Deus 2.
  14. That was a very informative video. First this reviewer clearly says in this video made on January 3rd.."Deus 2 is shipping NEXT WEEK." I assume he meant that Deus 2 shipments will start leaving the factory and go to distributors next week. Like you, I am mostly concerned with the Deus 2 Relic and Gold modes. I believe the video maker is mistaken about the audio options in Relic mode and Gold mode. It is my understanding that both modes can be run with VCO audio that is either Square Wave or PWM generated with default being Square Wave. Otherwise, he gave a very good overview of Deus 2 Relic mode and indirectly Gold mode. Other than their frequency weighting, I assume they are based on the same mode and have the same settings. The manual seems to support that. There is also this paragraph from the manual: Targets buried very deep can take on values close to the surrounding ground, to the point that they are most often rejected as the ground itself. The GoldField and Relic programs allow you to go deeper when searching for native gold in mineralized ground or for large masses at depth, as they only reject the local ground to which you have adjusted precisely by Grabbing. Ground compensation is therefore a priority in both these programs. Occasional ground variations and large mineralized stones with a different value from the surrounding soil may make the device react. Set them aside for future reference. I am guessing from that paragraph that Deus 2 FMF technology may be very beneficial in high iron mineralization. The reviewers point about Relic mode and Gold mode detecting absolutely everything in the ground (unless Disc. IAR is being used) is absolutely true from my experience with Deus 1 and ORX Gold modes. Some gold prospecting detectors have the ability to reject iron targets either in blocks (Garrett 24K, Goldmonster 1000) or in individual single digit increments (Equinox 800). The Deus 2 in Relic and Gold modes can only discriminate iron by using Disc IAR which will break up the VCO audio on near surface to around 4" deep iron targets depending on mineralization. What the Deus 2 in Relic and Gold modes can't do well (neither can Deus 1 and the ORX ) is deal with hot rocks, cold rocks, fired brick, fired pottery, by being able to slightly discriminate or at least lessen the quality and volume level of their audio responses other than ground balancing over them or just getting them out of the way. Extreme ground responses may be alleviated on Deus 2 Relic and Gold Field due to FMF.......At least on the Equinox in Gold 1 and 2, the option to single digit discriminate is available if needed especially in really high iron mineralization where rejecting -9 can make a world of difference. Gold prospecting, I rarely ever use it except for rejecting -9 sometimes. Relic hunting I definitely use it. Deus 2 does give the relic hunter and even possibly a gold prospector the choice of using a different discrimination mode for building their own custom relic/gold prospecting program that can better handle hot rocks and ceramics along with man-made iron. Lots and lots of other very important information is provided in this 50 hour review that applies to the other modes including how to start out for the first few hunts, most of the settings and modes and what they do and even some dive and beach hunting tips. Worth a listen if you have the time.
  15. DirtFishMish on YouTube uses the Nemo Blu3. She is a fine detectorist and mostly uses the Equinox and Excal. Delightful person, hobbyist and makes excellent videos.
  16. I have one request. You have demonstrated the mineralized pottery shards that are in your ground. I consider those to be like volcanic or earth's mantle " hot" and "cold" rocks. What I am looking for in one of your in the ground target videos is video shot of the Deus 2 mineralization graph while the coil is being pumped or swung over ground that is clear of pottery targets or actual ferrous/non ferrous targets. At the ground I usually detect in using a Deus 1 or ORX, both detector's mineralization bars are constantly 3/4ths to completely full. This greatly effects depth of most detectors along with any kind of target ID accuracy. Deus 1 and ORX are very susceptible to this high iron mineralization. The Equinox basically ignores the ground mineralization and has great target IDs even at the edge of detection along with normal depth for the size of coil used. In your example shown above, both detectors accurately identified that coin which I assume is similar to bronze/copper. If your ground (not just the pottery) is moderate to highly iron mineralized, I would bet that Deus 1 or the ORX would high tone and give a 99, -- -- or no form of target ID on the same in the ground target. I also use the Deus 1, ORX and Equinox 800 for gold prospecting at some places where many of the surface and near surface rocks from 2 mm to a meter or more in size are a hot rock like your pottery shards. Picking any gold out of that mess is difficult. I have found .1 gram and larger gold with these detectors at this location. The Deus 1 and ORX in their gold modes do very well but I hear everything including all of the hot rocks. The Equinox Gold modes using Multi IQ have the ability to minimize some of the hot rock responses due to tiny, automatic changes happening internally within the Multi IQ ground balance function similar to the internal automatic black sand adjustments done by Multi IQ in Beach 2. Does the Deus 2 have something similar to this? Sorry, I forgot to say thank you for reading and for possibly being able to answer my questions. Also, thank you very much for all of your videos and written contributions to this forum.
  17. I haven't seen it yet either. In fact only one guy has had the guts to try the official Relic mode on Deus ll and make videos of it. Deus ll Relic mode is the same as Deus ll Gold mode except it is operating at slightly lower frequency weighting somewhere around 25 kHz. The same fellow from Derbyshire also used his ORX and went head to head with Deus ll in his latest video. Deus ll was in Relic mode and ORX was in Coin Fast........why he didn't put the ORX in Gold 1 or Gold 2 is beyond me. The first video is Deus ll Relic vs General mode under this same XP category here.
  18. Youtube's Chill Bill posted a very good hunt video at a French site in the last 24 hours about the one he claims to have purchased. So, maybe soon. What a "character" this guy is. A delight to watch.
  19. It is a community service offered by some local clubs which do not have a set fee and by the official Ringfinders network linked here. I have done ring recovery using both. I prefer to use the service offered by my club but sometimes I do get calls to help out on an official Ring Finders gig.
  20. These are some of the questions Calabash raised. Just going by the manual from my interpretation of it: Legend Iron Bias.... I can't find anything resembling an Iron Bias function in the Legend manual either. Maybe the Legend's SMF technology doesn't need it. There is not an iron bias function on the Deus 2 either other than possibly the bottle cap reject function. Legend Black Beach Sand capability...... When the Legend encounters strong black sand concentrations a warning triangle appears.. The instructions are definitely vague for that warning triangle. Like Calabash indicated, does the detector just overload, is sensitivity automatically reduced (like on the Equinox) or is their a ground balance adjustment which means one should be using tracking ground balance ??????? Legend Ferro Check only on shallower targets Nothing unusual about that. There are very specific instruction in the manual on how to use it. It won't automatically give an accurate reading unless the instructions are followed. So just waving the coil over a target in one direction may not be good enough for an accurate reading. Goldmonster 1000 and XP ORX have to be operated the same way to get optimal results. The Equinox iron bias and its ability to determine ferrous/non-ferrous on deeper near edge of detection iron is very hit and miss. Circling the target and checking IDs and listening for iron is still necessary. Turning up iron bias helps on shallower targets for sure. Deus 1 and Deus 2, the same happens whether using the horseshoe graph screen or the X/Y screen. Deeper targets will often indicate part ferrous and part non ferrous. The Deus 2 Bottle Cap Reject I have never used or seen fully demonstrated on deeper iron. Gold and Relic mode's Disc Iron Amplitude Rejection function is really only for shallower targets also. Legend Threshold Tone The threshold tone can be turned on (above setting zero) or off in any mode and it has 25 levels of volume. In Park Field and Beach it is a reference threshold that will null on rejected targets. In Gold mode its default setting is 12 and it appears to be a real threshold tone that is directly related to the target tone since the manual specifically says it will not null on rejected targets. There is also a threshold frequency adjustment which I think means you can adjust the pitch higher or lower of the threshold tone. Legend's Four Default Discrimination Patterns equal Notching???? The Legend has four preset discrimination patterns that can be used as a short cut with the press of a button (similar to the Nox horseshoe button) in any mode to change the level of iron range acceptance. All (iron accepted 0 to 60), Ground (ground noise rejected 3 to 60 accepted), Iron (iron rejected 11 to 60 accepted) and Custom (iron rejected 12 to 60 accepted.) The Custom slot can be altered and saved. Those numbers come from the charts in the manual on page 11. There are slightly different default discrimination patterns that are preset for each of the four detecting modes which are also on page 11. The Legend has a totally separate single digit accept/reject notching feature similar to the Equinox where you can accept or reject any number or numbers manually or automatically.
  21. If anyone on here takes the time to watch both of Gary’s Dowsing videos (it’s okay you won’t grow horns or start seeing leprechauns) you will learn the importance of dowsing as a part of his modern metal detecting life. Instead of assuming you know what dowsing means to him, just watch. Otherwise stuff it. By the way, sometimes when gold prospecting, I’ll flip my small copper dowsing rods upside down, while strapped into my GPX5000 in one hand and my pick in the other and stick the dowsing rods in each nostril and have at it. Works too.
  22. Chuck I am really sorry you lost a hunting buddy and friend to suicide. It feels bad when you can’t say goodbye or even maybe have a chance to help them by just changing the course of their day in a positive direction. I am glad you were able to get the elliptical coil with your Equinox. That coil has really impressed me.
  23. There have been reports of on/off buttons being stuck, not working, etc. Hopefully your friend’s Nox is still under warranty and a Minelab repair facility is not too far away. Sounds like it needs to go there.
  24. I love metal detecting. Gary and Calabash definitely had something to do with my purchasing XP metal detectors. Even though Deus 1 and the ORX don’t perform very well in the areas I detect due to mineralization and I can’t stand their form of PWM audio, these detectors have fascinated me since I first had the opportunity to use one. Gary owns and uses many different brands of detectors. He has definitely bonded with the XP Deus 1 however and formed a strong partnership with it and has a good understanding of what it is telling him. His willingness to share his knowledge with us in his videos in his own humble way is very refreshing at least for me.
  25. Knowing what I know about dowsing, (and I am not very good at it) testing their skills in a controlled test to prove their skills is doomed to failure from the start.
