  1. I was able to open it with a little WD 40... Says "RR special edition # 40" Trying to find who was the maker. The front of the watch is missing the benzel so I may go back this weekend to see if I can find it. Thanks for all the likes and comments! It's great when you find something like this...Relic hunting is often met with disappointment from countless metal shards, shotgun caps, 22 casings...and other meaningless objects that end up in the garbage. strick
  2. Great analysis and thanks for doing that. I will be doing some testing between the two when I finally get the 800. It will take a an act of god to get me to prefer something over my CTX for general park hunting for coins and jewelry. I'm just so used to it. In my opinion you were running the CTX way too hot in that vid. Too much EMI. I rarely switch out of Auto 3+ and I've found the CTX in running in manual sensitivity best to keep it in the 22-25 range. I usually run my machine in Combined mode, Ferrous coin setting, deep on, and an open screen when looking for depth. Having half the screen blanked out like you had in that vid will cost you some depth. There is no question that the Equinox has good depth as well as good target ID at depth. I've seen that from the vids so far. My main concern is am I going to be able to operate it in bottle cap infested areas without it driving me nuts like my Deus used to. With the CTX all I have to do is press one button and it will tell me the likelihood that the target is a bottle cap. I subscribed to your Youtube channel strick
  3. By God your right! Thanks for that. I need to go back to that field and see if I can find the front cover of that watch. strick
  4. Thanks guys the other side is missing the benzel/cover and is pretty much toast. It was the side that had the actual clock. I was able to spray it with WD 40 and clean it enough that the face opens up now. Hopefully I can find some markings on it as I try to clean it some. The other thingy Ive identified as a part of an old razor set I think it was what they called the "lather catcher" https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-improved-eagle-safety-razor-1852144761 strick
  5. Went on a short hunt this morning...my experience is I usually find my best stuff at a new spot on the first one or two visits. I've known these people that own this property for 20 years. Their clients of mine. Still i've been reluctant to ask if I can detect around their house which dates back to the late 1800's. This week I decided I better have a go at it soon as they are in their 80's and retiring to Texas in a few years. Targets were few and I was not in the mood for a long hunt because I'm putting in a new fence back at my house and needed to get back so I could dig holes without my metal detector. They lease another property that is loaded with stuff (Calling Merton) that I plan to hit before the ground hardens. The watch is Gold plated. I love the ship with the flag on the bow. Does anyone know what that clip is? at first I thought it was a suspender clip but It kinda looks like a hair clip? Trash not included in photos
  6. Thanks for posting that Steve, when I saw that yesterday I thought to myself Gerry was right and felt like posting it but did not. I'm in no hurry to get one at this point and I'll just wait till he gets them in stock. After all it's just a metal detector....it's not like my ctx and deus arnt going to find anything anymore now that the horse is out of the corral. Funny thing I was one of the first to get the 7000 and I dont remember having to wait very long for that one strick
  7. I think I will just wait till they are on the shelf..... this is crazy strick
  8. Thanks for the vid It was a while ago and to be honest I cant remember if I did or not. I'll get it out and test it again. I mainly have it for back up but if I can get it to be a s sensitive on the tip as you say then I might use it instead of the Garrets. The Garret can be annoying sometimes at max sensitivity you have to turn it down to find the target when in high trash nails etc. To be honest I would rather have just the tip putting out then the sides as usually I have a pretty good idea where the target is before I dig. Hitting a old homesite tomorrow that I have not detected before and to my knowledge nobody else has. Both pointers are going Thanks for that. strick
  9. Garrets carrot will false in mineralized ground because they are sensitive. If you do any kind of serious detecting "One pinpointer" is not going to stick with you through thick and thin....they break easily I forgot how many I have now. I recently bought a Whites TRX...used it one day and placed it back in my spare bag....not a sensitive as the Carrot. strick
  10. My dealer has always been there. When one of my detectors was in the Kellyco shop (authorized minelab repair center at the time) and they were not returning my calls (for 2 months) My dealer called them for me and the next day I got a call from them saying my detector was on the bench and being worked on...coincidence ? I think not. My dealer will take trades...my dealer will talk me through a problem on the phone....My dealer will and has showed me where there is gold... So therefore my dealer will get my order....when and if I decide to place it. Now can someone please elaborate on the Equinox not hitting big silver on edge? It was said in a previous thred (about VDI charts) on this forum. I got an answer from "detector comparisons" on youtube that it will not see it in the center of the coil but will hit on the outside of the coil. Is this just going to be how it is with this detector or is this something they will fix? strick
  11. I have a quarter I'll sell you for 3 bucks better deal then a dime for 2 bucks strick
  12. Several old lantern parts... 5-6 bullets, 6-7 22 casings, insides to an old watch. Cool looking key of sorts...1 Lincoln memorial, one crusty zink, two vintage bottle caps. several pieces of copper wire, and lots of other junk....was hunting an old hotel site...that has been beat to hell by me and others but it was nice to get out and swing for a couple hours. strick
  13. Thanks Steve...Have 3030 and deus on hand so no reason to rush into things right now. Preliminary reports look mostly good so far and even if I ordered one now it would be a while before I got it so for now I'll just sit and watch....but thanks for that post as I'm sure it will get some attention. I cant imagine Minelab not testing high thick conductors at every angle. Watching closely.. Birthday not till April strick
  14. Thanks guys for the Big silver on edge info....Have not ordered yet and will wait to see how this turns out before I do. following this thred closely. strick
  15. Are you sure thats the real Terry and not some one pretending to be You can have my SandShark when you pry it from my cold dead hands strick
  16. Thats it! I cant take it any longer.....I'm ordering one TODAY!!! strick
  17. I'm going to introduce the Equinox to the bigger more powerful CTX 3030...maybe they can get to know each other and perhaps become close personal friends. The CTX can tell the equinox some of his secrets to finding treasure...kinda like a debriefing of sorts. It can educate it on stable target ID at depth for example. Then he can show her some of the treasures he has found over the years. Perhaps the Equinox will be impressed? Maybe they can go on a hunt together? and then really get to know each other? I'll even wish a bit more and maybe they can really get to know each other and Minelab can produce some CTXInoxes? strick
  18. Rings are where you find them. Just saying...The surf is a different story...things are moving all the time there. Big storms and big tides is the key. There are some great books on the subject. Getting wet is better. In Parks and fields...just cover lots of ground. People loose rings in parking lots etc.. so there is no telling. I find lots of chains and rings in the middle of fields. Got a beautiful Sterling womens braided chain the other day in the middle of a park field. Sounded like crap but I dug it any way and was rewarded...I've heard all kinds of theories about how jewelry gets lost....and I drive myself crazy thinking about it...it's part of the fun of the hunt. Had a guy tell me once that the tennis ball launcher was the kill all for finding lost rings. Apparently rings don't fly of hands now that the tennis ball launcher has been invented lol. Maybe he was right? But I still try. Sometimes I look where lovers may lay...near trees..top of grassy knolls etc......search for flat spots on the grass where a blanket may have recently been...kind of like feeling if the ground is still warm like the indians used to do . The reality of it is the more you hunt... the more ground you cover... and your choice of which detector you use and which coil you pick for a given location will make the difference. Good luck! Oh and don't forget to check the sidelines of the soccer fields! strick
  19. Well they got 4 compartments to their stomach...Run the GPX 5000 over them and see what you get strick
  20. The Carrot is hard to beat....have many and it's always my first pick. strick
  21. Nice to see your only human like the rest of us....taking into consideration all the great nuggets you have found! strick
  22. Gerry I'm buying a new Equinox so you can buy your wife more shoes and diamond earrings strick
  23. Many different "Heads" that will fit on one box. A USB slot on the side of the box and away we go.....seems very simple and 'm sure it's very possible but a lot more goes into the building of a metal detector. The size of the "Head" being the most important. Head sizes vary depending on what you are hunting for. An ounce or two difference in the size of the "Head" can make a big difference in the balance of the whole detector. When out detecting we want a detector that is well balanced. Metal detector companies are in the business of selling detectors just as car companies are in the business of selling cars. Limiting their line up to just one product or model is probably not in their best interest. Get your self a good coin machine Etrac etc... and try hunting for a while and if you get hooked like the rest of us are then get the gold machine. strick
