  1. Nice !!!! When you crank up the gain the MK is amazingly deep. Good job. Practice makes perfect.
  2. That coin looks really nice, Not a bad paycheck for the day. If the market keeps dropping it might be worth a lot more very soon. I'd have to find about 1525 of those just to cover my losses on my wife's 401k and my market losses. Looks like I have to buy a GPZ 7000 not sure I can afford one now. Great finds!! You should be very proud of yourself and your dedication to the hobby. Hope to see some more soon.
  3. I thought you cut your hand off for a second, looked like a horror movie seen Ha Ha. Good job
  4. Seems to be an infinity ring, good job my friend !!! And the sky looks awesome !!
  5. Hey Rob, you are in good hands with all the great and knowledgeable people on this site. Please post any questions and finds, we all will be happy to help.
  6. PS. back in the day of retail some mfg's would require you to prove you had a legit business by providing a photo of your retail storefront. My comments are strictly for supporting good quality dealers who bend over backwards for their customers. Big box should be limited to low to mid range detector's. But mfg's are looking for the bottom line sadly. Sorry I didn't see your last comment before I posted. My heart pounds when I discuss mfg vs little guy issues.
  7. Here's my idea, Dealer orders say 15 head units or control boxes, 25 different coils, 30 different shafts with assorted shapes and materials. Pinpointers, ect. The factory then packs them up in one box and off to the dealer. The dealer then can sell to the consumer the setup he or she wants. Also if the person needs a coil for any said machine they can purchase that by itself, as with any other separate part. Leave it up to the dealer to figure out what they need not the factory giving them something they don't. I can't tell you how many times I needed parts and found out its a nightmare to acquire, which leads me to letting the dealers handle the small parts and pieces. Dealers know what sells in their area (not the mfg's) Sometimes the mfg's force dealers to buy certain products to become qualified for purchase of other high end units. This is not something that helps the little guy or the mfg after he goes out of business, because he can't sell the products he was forced to buy. Like I said the dealers know what they can sell and what they can't. Also for consumers this will end up making you jump ship to another mfg. who is willing to service your needs. (bad for everyone involved). Warranties are another falsehood that mfg's put out that really don't cover anything (just sounds good on paper), to get you to buy that detector because of the so called great warranty. Let me qualify that by saying Not All mfg's do this, some have figured it out. By being good to the consumer means return business. Thanks for the great post Steve, maybe some mfg's will see all of our comments and make the move to better serve our needs or they might find themselves downsizing, or worse like another great brand. (How Hard Could It Be) !!!!!
  8. Yesterday while out testing a new program for my MK, I got a good hit. Seemed fairly deep so I thought it was a large object, after digging to about 12'' I reached the target. And thought to myself man that looks like a musket ball. Back story is, I was hunting within a quarter mile of a place were General Washington was holding up before the battle of Germantown. This place is very close to my house and has a lot of Rev war history. The ball measures anywhere from 0.586 to 0.625 and weighs 17.745 grams. I know some of the early muskets used a ball that was close to that, but that depended on the maker. Any thoughts would be great. Also I found an 18th century lockset on the same property about 5 years ago. Very cool if this is Rev War!!
  9. Great point, How many times have we all said, ''How hard could it be to put such n such option on a product" 99% of us are willing to pay extra for what we want. I'm a little confused why company's can't figure it out. Seems to be we get what they give us not what we want. I like QED making parts available like this. I also think this could be done for little money, which could be passed on to the consumer. Charge more for one part, less for another and make a build it yourself package deal. seems like a no brainer. Would be a win - win deal and most likely they will make more money. I'm thinking the first quality detector mfg. to do this in (all price points) would soon dominate the market place, forcing competitors to follow suit.
  10. Wondering if they didn't x-ray it to get the details before cleaning? they did a great job with it, hope they will give more info on the process of preservation. Had to have taken years. The metropolitan museum of art in New York has a great armory !! If you are ever in NY.
  11. Good on you Steve, I was wondering the same thing after saw Simon's posted video. Just checked their site they list them as accessories but no price, they ask you to reference your local dealer. The V8 - V10 - V12 Are listed, Maybe they want only store front businesses to be able to get the coil for you, and if they sold the machine to you. Even if they are proprietary to the machine, It could be a strategy to eliminate online sales to help support dealers. Dealers could be complaining about loosing out to the online market. Just my two cents.
  12. No pre 65 but one 1967. the year I was born. Your correct it is a turf repair tool, but it's a zinc modern version. The clad copper thing is what I'm calling more modern coins vs wheat penny's. I just spent the last 3 hours running a test area on this coil. I believe I have this running pretty good now. I made a couple of major changes that do not work on the DD. But for the 9 inch this is where I ended up. I'm in 3 tone Gain - 86 Fe. Vol. - N2 iSAT -0 Disc - 05 T. Break -04 to 70 Notch - 01 Tone 15 - 70 - 50 I set up 15 different targets ranging from old nails, foil, shotshell case, silver dime, clad coins, silver ring, gold ring, gold chain, 1908 gold coin, wheat penny, Pull tabs (3 kinds), Brass buckle. I put all said items on the ground and tested in each KHZ and with different settings. I then logged all my tone numbers for each and logged my perceived sounds as high, low or mid tone. After all that work the above program seems to take a lot of my problems away. I know that this an air test so to speak but it beats trying to do this while your trying to find something. hopefully its just minor tweaking after that. Also it wipes the iron nails out, which I want to do on a couple of sites. Kac, I found in my areas if I drop the gain to under 80 I'll loose 4 inches in depth, and between 85 and 90 I loose an inch plus
  13. Forced myself to go out in the 38 degree + 20 mph winds to do some testing on the new 9 inch concentric. First place was an old park near my since passed grandfathers house I haven't been there since I was 11. I only brought a screw driver to dig, and didn't want to get in trouble even though the park rules didn't mention detectors. I really couldn't dig any deep targets but the 9 seemed a little off. I was hitting iron nails in the 60's +, not all the time though. Ran 5 - 14 - 19 khz It seems settle itself in 14. Tried multiple settings of disc. and gain in each khz. This 9'' almost runs like a DD which has me wondering if its not a true concentric? I'll get a 15 to 20 reading. spin get a 45 to 54 reading, spin again and get a 4 to 7 reading, Also was getting a pretty good sized halo effect on most targets. I'm not sure if this is some of my red clay soils causing this, plus it was extremely wet. I'll dig the target and get foil most of the time. I understand that running for silver and gold will get you to dig most targets. Has no problems with the clad signals but copper seems a little weird. If you run the gain in the 80's you loose a lot of depth, most times I was sticking to 92+ gain. Off to the next spot, 10 miles away. Pretty much the same thing, weird copper signals, clad good and the halo effect. This could be user error, I'm very new to this type of machine but I'm not getting this from the 7x11 DD. But both coils unmasking ability is incredible!! First photo park finds, Second photos are the last site, notice the clads that are fused together a clad penny and nickle and 2 quarters and a penny this MK could tell that they were 2 coins and 3 coins together, they all registered as separate targets (not used to that). Did anyone feel like they lost a little confidence in a coil when they first tried it? Not overly disappointed, but think more practice might be in order. Any Thoughts?
  14. I didn't want to start a new topic on a question I had. Does anyone know if you can register a coil for warranty on Nokta's site?? there seems to be no coils listed on the menu. Maybe they warrant those without registration?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kac try setting ISAT to 0, you get a bunch more depth. I'm Pretty much using roughly the same settings you are. Looks like your doing well on the finds. I'm still trying different settings on hits to see if I can find a better set up.
  15. Hard to believe that something could survive 2500 degrees. Kind of amazing when you think about it. I'm guessing they can test it for amino acids? Although they also have found the remains of bacteria on some space rocks. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to meeting ET. I bet they have way better detectors than us!!!! I'm hoping that I haven't found one of those rocks and thought it was just iron junk. Heard they can be valuable.
  16. Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. In my state we just don't have the gold. I'm very impressed with you gold guy's. Your explanation makes me want to try this even more. Good luck in the future and please post more.
  17. I'm fascinated by this gold prospecting with a detector. Stupid question maybe, but do you ever try and pan out some of the surrounding dirt for finer gold? or does your machine not hit on flour type gold? Or are you just nugget hunting? That's just got to be a great feeling of exhilaration when you find one. Can't imagine that gets old. Thanks for posting.
  18. Great finds, I'm thinking I might have to move Australia. Weather alone is better, but I'm not a fan of the great white. Hope you find some more next run around. I'll be waiting on the photo's
  19. Glad to have you aboard!!! as for the knob thing if its aluminum on aluminum it might be a corrosion problem. If it's plastic it very well could be just a tight fit. in any case don't rush the process. And please post some photos of the machine. Would love to see it
  20. Great reply!!! I've been trying to hone my skills learning the new sounds with the MK. Finally got some more information that verify's I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks for your valued thoughts. I too spend a lot of time listening to the sounds, that's what makes it fun. better than sitting in the house.
  21. It's really hard to let go of the tesoro sounds, thats my biggest issue. Just got my 9 inch concentric and did a little testing. Discrimination is better but I'm loosing about 3 inches in depth, to be expected though. Also some much clearer sounds and readings on the vdi as well. I think this is really going to work well with a little experimentation. Nice score on the button!!! kind of looks like an old militia button, but never seen an enameled one. very similar to some 1880's stuff. It would be nice if you could figure it out.
  22. May Poseidon and Amphitrite reveal the treasures of the ocean to you. Hope I'm correct on my Greek mythology. If they do please post more photos my friend. Keep warm
  23. I took note the other day when I was out that nosing the coil around the target you get some better answers with the DD. I tend to do a square dance around the target, multiple times to get a clearer image in my head. Also my depth has increased with the MK about 4 to 5 inches. I think I'm finally getting used to the VDI after years of hunting by ear and my senses, but I still dig certain sounds. Aluminum on the MK is a clearer tone while on a tesoro its more of a broken tone. I think the tesoros can pick out aluminum much better by tone. If the MK did not have VDI you would dig every AL sound. Once I hurdle some of the differences this machine is going be a game changer for my old sites. Can't wait for my concentric to get here. (worse than a kid at Christmas) Kac I might have to find you at the beach one day for some digging, just remember I don't do sharks!!! Thanks for your help my friend
  24. I'm not sure if I've ever been that skilled or even lucky finding gold rings. good for you! great finds!!, I would love to hunt ocean water but I don't do sharks.
  25. I don't mind digging questionable targets, thats how I found the fake diamonds. I was running in SP. I was running gain around 84 bouncing around to 90-91 to pick up the depth once a target is found. I have found that you pick up about 2'' in depth when you go from the 80's to the 90's. As for the higgin's shell probably from the early 1950's. I use cartridge-corner.com for all shotgun shell info.
