Important Information from White's Electronics

June 18, 2020

To our valued White's Dealers-

This is a very difficult message to write, but the time has come for retirement from White's Electronics.

We are suspending manufacturing operations at our Sweet Home facility while we re-evaluate the future of the company. It is never easy to make these decisions, however, we are faced with the reality of intense competition in the industry and ongoing counterfeit instruments coming from China. Lastly, there have been critical material shortages since the Covid 19 shutdown that we now find insurmountable.

All of us here in Sweet Home are grateful for your service. We consider each you part of the White's extended family.

Sincerely,

Ken White

Wondered when this day was going to come.  COVID just accelerated the inevitable.

I think the Apex had something to do with it too.  Multi Frequency is the way of the future, they had no way to join the party.  There was a recent email posted on this forum somewhere that I can't find at the moment from Whites where they indicated their detectors still hold their own against new detectors on the market, In the email they sounded very comfortable sitting on their old technology not trying to innovate.   That for me was the writing on the wall for them.  Very sad indeed but they did bring it upon themselves.  I feel for the dealers, especially those who only sold Whites but again, it should have been obvious for them to diversify.

R.I.P.    I remember,  back in the '70s,  when they were "all the rage ".    😞

Even between 2002 with the introduction of the MXT up until 2009 with the introduction of the V3i White's was a force to be reckoned with, producing extremely competitive machines. Once CEO Alan Holcombe left however, right around the time the V3i came out... that is when the end really started. White's just never found anyone capable of really replacing Alan.

Would they be worth someone buying them out? Do they have any technology other manufacturers would want or need?

Jin posted this back in April....

The chart claims “5 key products” under development for FY21. We are in Minelab FY2021 right now... it began in July. Minelab has also been registering trademarks since February. Four new ones so far:
MF5 Silversaver Series Geo Sense-PI GPX 6000 ????? That leaves just one going missing.

Coming soon? Not just one, but a series?

      Hey all,
I found this website today that gives those of you outside the US; a US shipping address!  To buy things here, sales tax free,  and have them forwarded to your door anywhere in the world!
Do your due diligence, and make sure things are legit first! But hopefully, they will make products cheaper, easier, and quicker for you all to ship from here!!👍👍

An intrepid forum member passed this along. Interesting, as the name does not sound “recreational” to me, more like something for geologists or exploration companies?

      Hello all,
Just an update on my 800 that was sent out to ML on July 6th!
Just received shipping info for today's shipment,  via USPS 2 Day priority mail! Pretty quick turnaround, considering Covid issues!! I had sent in all electronic parts for testing!!
And a Repair Center Email below!!👍👍

Steve Howard took care of my warranty issue...I now have a new 6 x 10 coil. I had told Steve I'd buy the old one back. I thought I could cut the mounting ears off, and make a new top, including new ears, and bridge over the spot causing the falsing, and I'd rather have that than no backup at all, and no new products since they were closing. He sent me back the old one at no charge! I also needed the handle and shaft for a GM2 I was trying to buy, and he sent me a the handle and travel shaft at a discounted price! Obviously, the old culture at Whites continues, even though they're going to close.
      Thanks Whites!
      Jim
