  1. Published on Apr 21, 2015 - Found this 3.8oz beauty in the goldfields of Victoria using the GPZ 7000. It was nearly dark but I couldn't resist a few more minutes detecting. It gave off a strange signal because I believe it was standing upright. Pay close attention at the 7:45 mark, you can actually see and hear the nugget as its dropped inches from the coil!!!
  2. Hello all In the short video below we show you how the alternative discrimination works over some wanted and unwanted items, we show in the video that you can discriminate them American nightmare coins that are the Zinc Pennies and in the video it’s a 1993 Zinc Penny, also we show other items like coke that is very undesirable to many but the Vista X is able to punch through the coke to find a silver Hammered coin underneath.
  3. Excellent find, not only large but great character - congratulations! The challenge is on now - can Oz put a larger nugget in your pocket?
  4. Published on May 14, 2019 “Hello all, hope you’ve all had a great weekend. We’ve just put a short video covering some of the aspects on the DeepTech Vista X together, some of the features that you’ll see in the video has been altered but we will be making a new video on these changes very soon. We’ve had so much interest in the Vista X, we put a video together as fast as possible to show some of these new features. Thank you for your patience, more information and update video on performance coming shortly. Recommended retail price: 580 Euro”
  5. There have been like a dozen threads on finding gold nuggets with the Equinox and 6” coil since last year if you do some looking. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/7468-my-tips-on-nugget-detecting-with-the-minelab-equinox/ https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/9606-tiny-gold-hunting-with-the-equinox-800/
  6. Yes, the Gold Monster works and gold can be found with it. That’s not to say it will be if any use to you. Metal detectors are simply tools and the only way to find out if one works for a particular task is to give it a try. The problem is not the detector, it is in predicting the gold geology and the level of operator expertise at work.
  7. The Fisher F70, Minelab X-Terra 705, Nokta/Makro Racer 2, and Teknetics T2 are all currently available new for $499. All good machines, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
  8. Published on May 8, 2019. Detecting veteran and reality TV star Tim Saylor tackles the question of traveling with metal detectors. How does he pack his detector, pinpointer and shovel when he flies overseas?
  9. Very nice Norm, halves are a rare find anyway and that one sure has sharp details! ?
  10. Welcome to the forum! The following thread shows how to take the rod apart and where that black part came from....
  11. I have never experienced this on any version of the TDI. The “ground balance off” mode should be the pure unfiltered signal. Engaging the ground balance engages a filter which reduces the air test results in a properly functioning TDI. The only reason the TDI has the ability to turn off the ground balance is to get this extra depth back, as has been highlighted in numerous online posts and videos. The manual says air test depth increases with the ground balance shut off. What you are saying simply makes no sense from a pure electronics standpoint and how the ground balance functions. If a TDI loses depth in air tests when the ground balance is shut off then in my opinion it is not working properly.
  12. For what it’s worth I think the Minelab GPX 4500 does represent the best “value proposition” going in a prospecting PI at this time. I nominate it as the “Gold Bug Pro” of the PI world, proven safe and reliable, fabulous coil selection, great price. If it was me I would probably spend the extra on a GPX 5000 just to have the “Fine Gold” setting which the 4500 lacks. That’s a big premium for one setting but “Fine Gold” shuts up hot rocks better than anything I have ever used. If a person is not going to get into hot rocks severe enough to require the Fine Gold setting then the 4500 is an obvious winner.
  13. You are talking perceptions which of course will vary. I personally do think that Garrett needs to do something. There has been no follow up for the ATX, and the GTI 2500 is embarrassingly old for a “flagship” detector. I think many Garrett fans were hoping the AT Max would be multifrequency so I sense some general disappointment there. At the moment I think Garrett is cruising more on marketing muscle than the merits of the current lineup. I have dollars in my wallet waiting for Garrett when they make a light weight dry land version of the ATX with a set of normal light weight coils. Those dollars have been waiting and waiting. That sums up the issue with Garrett right now.
  14. Most serious prospectors are using machines like the Minelab GPX and GPZ units that do not report on the mineralization level in any measurable way. I hunt lots of different areas with mineralization from mild to severe, but I don’t know really how most of us can give you useful data.
  15. That's the most gold I have ever seen posted from Virginia! ?
  16. Relevant links are welcome on these forums. I know the forum you are referring to but can’t find it anymore. If you have a link that would be good.
  17. “The single biggest hoard of Celtic coins ever found is now thought to be two separate stashes that were buried together. The Le Câtillon II hoard includes 70,000 gold and silver coins and 11 gold torques, or necklaces, and dates to the First Century AD. Researchers believe that two distinct tribes created the currency, due to variations in the quality of their production as well as the metals used. The collection, thought to be worth £10million ($13million), was brought to the island and buried - most likely to hide it from Roman invaders, experts say.” Full story and photos here
  18. If I was as unhappy with my Equinox as you are with yours I would use a different detector. Life’s too short for me to bother with a detector that is not meshing well with me.
  19. “A man who unearthed a £145,000 Anglo-Saxon pendant has found more treasure dating back about 800 years. Tom Lucking's latest find saw him dig up a brooch dating back to between 1200 and 1300 in Wymondham, Norfolk in September. In 2014, the then student found a pendant in Winfarthing, Norfolk dating from circa 630AD. Mr Lucking, 27, said the brooch, which features two lions and is studded with two pink stones, was a "special" find.” Full story and photos here
  20. Reg last posted on these forums a year ago. As has been noted I don’t think he hangs out anywhere now per se. Most of his valuable posts over the years about the TDI went away when the Findmall White’s forums plus White’s own forum both got nuked this year.
  21. Gold reads wherever it wants depending on size, shape, purity, orientation in ground, ground mineralization, proximity to trash, etc. All non-ferrous signals should be dug and if “on the gold” dig everything. Most nugget detectors made over the years lack a target id system for a reason. That’s not to say target id can’t be useful while nugget detecting, but do not fall into the trap of thinking there are “gold numbers”. On the Gold Bug Pro target id 40 and higher is non-ferrous but gold can reach into the ferrous number range. The most common target numbers for gold on the Gold Bug Pro will be in the 35 to 60 range with large nuggets reading even higher. Gold Bug Pro Operating Tips Some Gold Nugget Target ID Numbers
