  1. “The single biggest hoard of Celtic coins ever found is now thought to be two separate stashes that were buried together. The Le Câtillon II hoard includes 70,000 gold and silver coins and 11 gold torques, or necklaces, and dates to the First Century AD. Researchers believe that two distinct tribes created the currency, due to variations in the quality of their production as well as the metals used. The collection, thought to be worth £10million ($13million), was brought to the island and buried - most likely to hide it from Roman invaders, experts say.” Full story and photos here
  2. If I was as unhappy with my Equinox as you are with yours I would use a different detector. Life’s too short for me to bother with a detector that is not meshing well with me.
  3. “A man who unearthed a £145,000 Anglo-Saxon pendant has found more treasure dating back about 800 years. Tom Lucking's latest find saw him dig up a brooch dating back to between 1200 and 1300 in Wymondham, Norfolk in September. In 2014, the then student found a pendant in Winfarthing, Norfolk dating from circa 630AD. Mr Lucking, 27, said the brooch, which features two lions and is studded with two pink stones, was a "special" find.” Full story and photos here
  4. Reg last posted on these forums a year ago. As has been noted I don’t think he hangs out anywhere now per se. Most of his valuable posts over the years about the TDI went away when the Findmall White’s forums plus White’s own forum both got nuked this year.
  5. Gold reads wherever it wants depending on size, shape, purity, orientation in ground, ground mineralization, proximity to trash, etc. All non-ferrous signals should be dug and if “on the gold” dig everything. Most nugget detectors made over the years lack a target id system for a reason. That’s not to say target id can’t be useful while nugget detecting, but do not fall into the trap of thinking there are “gold numbers”. On the Gold Bug Pro target id 40 and higher is non-ferrous but gold can reach into the ferrous number range. The most common target numbers for gold on the Gold Bug Pro will be in the 35 to 60 range with large nuggets reading even higher. Gold Bug Pro Operating Tips Some Gold Nugget Target ID Numbers
  6. Welcome to the forum... there are a number of people here like myself closely following the Manta/ Aqua Pulse AQ story so I am quite happy to welcome you to the forum. ?
  7. There is nothing new that I am aware of and I do check regularly. I have seen nothing to indicate there are any holdups or delays. Edit: Rumored release now is October 2019. The problem with letting people know a detector is in the works is the assumption there is a certain number of days that can go by before it is “delayed”. However, if there is not an announced delivery date there can’t be a delay or a holdup. Work simply progresses until the detector is ready to release. And so far there is no word that it is ready to release. Nokta/Makro Simplex Data & Reviews Nokta/Makro Simplex LCD display and controls
  8. If you have done a factory reset (a firmware upgrade would also reset the detector) and this problem continues, then I can’t think of any solution other than to send the detector to a Minelab service center. Minelab GPZ 7000 reset options
  9. I made a solid scuff cover for my Equinox to use in areas with sticks and such that can catch and stop an open spoke coil. I also would like a 6 x 10 coil someday.
  10. You can bet the reason you are hearing about this now is the Minelab Global Conference held in Sardinia, Italy a week ago. Dealers would have been informed, and although they are not supposed to say anything dealers always leak information. Minelab knows this and so these types of announcements tend to happen right after a dealer meeting.

  12. When you are normally detecting you can set a faint sound to listen to while you detect, or set the detector to be silent until a target is detected. The faint sound is referred to as the "threshold sound" or threshold. Background noise can affect your ability to hear a threshold if set, and hearing capability varies, so this is a variable setting. Pros use the threshold to alert them to very weak signals and to get feedback about the ground and rejected trash targets. The pitch/tone of the threshold can be varied on the Equinox 800 (not the 600) to be a higher or lower tone depending on your hearing. When adjusting this setting Pt appears on the screen. Apparently the LCD could not make a Tp? Or it's military style - Pitch, Threshold. See video below at 2:05 mark... Threshold Pitch (Advanced Setting) This EQUINOX 800 Advanced Setting allows you to set the threshold tone to be higher or lower pitched. Set the level to the most comfortable pitch for your hearing. Threshold Pitch allows you to adjust the audio pitch of the Threshold tone. Hearing will vary between individuals, so adjust the Threshold Pitch to a level that is comfortable for your hearing. The Threshold Pitch setting has a range from 1 to 25 with a default setting of 4 for Park, Field, and Beach Modes, and a default of 11 for Gold Mode. Threshold Pitch changes are semi-global; Park, Field, and Beach Mode Search Profiles will be affected by changes to this Advanced Setting when in any of these modes. Gold Mode (Equinox 800 only) Threshold Pitch is adjusted separately to the other modes. Adjusting the Threshold Pitch Use the Settings button to navigate to Threshold Level in the Settings Menu. Press and hold the Settings button for 2 seconds. A line will appear beneath the Threshold Level icon indicating you have selected the Threshold Pitch setting, and 'Pt' will appear on the Frequency Display. Press Plus (+) to set the threshold tone to a higher pitch. Press Minus (–) to set threshold tone to a lower pitch. Any adjustments are automatically saved. A long press of the Settings button will return you to the Threshold Level setting.
  13. Welcome to the forum and thanks for taking the effort to join.
  14. Looks like a possible sedimentary concretion (elongate concretion) to me. Could just as easily be a waterworn piece of sandstone. https://www.priweb.org/index.php/education/education-projects-programs/earth-101/concretions
  15. Kind of amazing all the U.S. people with 3D printers anxious to make something that nobody is doing this. I sent an email to the outfit that makes the XP aftermarket dodads like a stronger battery connector and suggested it. Heard nothing back though.
  16. Yeah, it does at a guess sound like the dip in saltwater caught up with you. Even long term use on beaches but not in the water can be detrimental due to salt spray in the air. We are just guessing though. Nokta/Makro was in the midst of setting up a new and better service center and I am not sure where they are in that process. That was back in February so they should be dialed in by now? NOKTA MAKRO SERVICE CENTEREmail: service@noktamakrorepairs.comTel: 706-619-2601Address: 7579 Nashville Street Ringgold, GA 30736
  17. Gain and sensitivity normally are the same control. Reducing sensitivity always increases stability but obviously it is a trade off. You have to find the best balance between raw power and stability - useable power. The old rule of thumb is increase gain/sensitivity until the machine becomes to unstable/noisy, then back off a hair.
  18. Wow, I am very excited for you Steve and I admit a little jealous. I am sure it will be quite an adventure and I hope you find a pile of gold!! Seems like half the forum members here are headed to Australia this year. I am proud the forum has been able to facilitate some connections made around the world. It does not get any better than that! ?
  19. Want to be a social media star? From https://www.noktadetectors.com/nomads-usa-application-form/ "Do you live in the USA? Is metal detecting your passion? Applications will be reviewed by the Nokta Makro team and successful applicants will be contacted via email."
  20. I am not arguing at all with any of that. They do read the forum so your message has been heard.
  21. Looks like the old info is mostly gone as confirmed by the mods.... http://forums.whiteselectronics.com/forum/chat/60-forum-is-back
