  1. Their shirts have no holes from the cat claw, and they are way too clean, but perhaps that is because they are on the way back to the truck to get their pick as jasong noted. He isnt going to find much with his coil that far off the ground
  2. Wake board or kite surfing board cases are cheap and available and fit the larger coils https://www.google.com/search?q=o'brien+padded+wakeboard+case&source=hp&oq=padded+wake+board+case&gs_l=mobile-heirloom-hp.1.0.0i13i5i10i30.4692.14365.0.17943.23.20.0.3.3.0.274.3282.0j17j3.20.0....0...1c.1.34.mobile-heirloom-hp..4.19.2575.fl7MKlAFt9U https://www.google.com/search?q=padded+kitesurfing+board+case&oq=padded+kitesurfing+board+case&aqs=heirloom-srp..
  3. I dowsed my way to the minelab store, then I found a bunch of gold...see, it works! Seriously though, my minelab detector couldn't tell which box the gold was in either. It would sound off pretty well on all but the rocks
  4. A bit like buyng pieces of the Berlin wall https://www.etsy.com/listing/690961609/original-genuine-piece-of-berlin-wall?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-art_and_collectibles-collectibles-memorabilia-souvenirs_and_events&utm_custom1=_k_EAIaIQobChMIzb2Y55ni7gIVERLnCh3taQS-EAQYASABEgKa6_D_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_1844702580_70388661755_346397622163_pla-316730450793_m__690961609_12768591&utm_custom2=1844702580&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzb2Y55ni7gIVERLnCh3taQS-EAQYASABEgKa6_D_BwE
  5. Not usually, the government typically foots the bill and may charge the county where you are from. There is a patchwork of regulations, however, depending on which state you are in, and what land you are on. Most incorporate a component of whether your actions were negligent and whether you were breaking the law (especially skiing in off limit areas for example). Some states have cards and insurance to help offset costs, where you wont be billed even if negligent
  6. At that price difference I would buy it abroad, have the dealer training on the goldfields, have a bit of a holiday finding gold. Then fly back via Spain. Voila
  7. In the desert mountains in winter or other mountains in summer, i am normally a ways from the car so a headlamp and extra batteries are essential for when you underestimate how long it takes to get back because you wanted to find just one more. I also carry a sam splint and leucotape for if things go wrong https://www.amazon.com/SAM-Medical-Products-Flat-Splint/dp/B001PSZ7XG/ref=asc_df_B001PSZ7XG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167133770849&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1198669352353024508&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031563&hvtargid=pla-308438770042&psc=1 And if they go really wrong, i have a firestarter to stay warm
  8. Developped for battlefield application during the vietnam war. That's why it sticks your fingers together so well https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/a25067/the-surprising-military-history-of-superglue/ To pull it back on topic, in fact a roll of leucotape and a small tube of glue covers most of your detecting first aid needs, and also doubles as your mechanical tool kit for detector repair
  9. Dagnabbit! Now I need to fork out for a lucky shirt too? My current one can't be too lucky as it has been shredded by the catclaw
  10. As you get older superglue is great for re-attaching bits 🙂 in this case you use it to close the crack and let it heal
  11. Throw a small piece of gold on the ground and pass the detector above it with increasing distance away
  12. I dont have that issue, and you shouldn't if you are in factory preset settings. I use somewhat hotter settings hunting but I would try the presets to see if it is responding as it should. I have also noticed that if items hit your cable, or if you have a loose cable loop that can move close to the coil, you may hear falsing. If you are close enough, have a dealer evaluate if it is working as it should, or minelab, that will answer your questions
  13. If it were me I would start where the reports recorded alluvial gold, if it is accessible
  14. Given that different timings can light up different types of gold, my bet is that in some way it uses multiple timings simultameously.
  15. That is a cool tin and documents. I love that the tin is not completely rusted away
  16. The problem is that the sites are well known. The trick is finding sites that are unknown
  17. Even though it has EMI settings for double D coils, I would want EMI mitigation for my monoloop. The other issue is that when I go over ground with different timings I get more gold that I didnt see. Similarly over time my settings have got hotter. Would these be possible? Or does this get it all the first time? Bring on the first testers
  18. Since I like to use the polycarbonate skid plate as per goldhound, I go for the solid. With spoked you just get a bunch of stuff under the edge on top. IMO the regular skid plate for the spoked is a pain to tape off, but maybe I wasnt doing it right
  19. I also use polycarbonate sheets cut a little larger (makrolon-but they are the same). I didnt have much luck with the silicone so I just use E6000 glue instead. They work great
  20. In prospecting half the people are lying because they are finding nothing, and half are lying because they are finding something. This doesnt sound like a casual detectorist being waylaid
