  1. I think depth is more dependent on how soft the soil is water content of the soil, traffic (lawn mowers etc) and the weight of the object...I was out for a little hunt Sunday evening and I'm amazed at how deep some pull tabs are that I find...way below the roots of the grass and I always wonder how they do not just get caught up in the roots and just stay at that depth.. Notching out may be a good strategy in a real trashy park to begin with but after the easy targets disappear then its time to see what everyone else has walked with over and left..my CTX was a great notcher ๐Ÿ™‚ strick
  2. Thats one way to do it for sure. How many times have you hunted this particular park? I've noticed that when I hunt parks I will find most of my rings in the first several hunts and then it goes down hill from there...sometimes I'll notch out the small foil but it's hard to think that I could be missing a nice gold chain in the process...so I usually will hunt by sound and id stability when searching for jewelry and dig or pass based on those traits..nice hunt strick
  3. Norvic I've never used my speaker while hunting I always use headphones...runs way better now. Maybe @Sourdough Scott will chime in and let us know how he likes his machine after the fix...haven't really talked with him about it....I don't think his stock machine was running nearly as bad as mine was.... I've only ever seen him using headphones while using the 6000 as well. strick
  4. I've spent a lot of time hunting side by side with a guy both of us using our 6000's.. mine had the speaker up date/fix his did not.....now his does. Do your self a favor...if you have an older 6000 that needs the speaker fix... get it fixed...you trusted minelab enough to buy their machine in the first place why not trust them to fix it... strick
  5. Good to see you out doing something different...metal detecting is a great hobby there are so many different opportunities.. strick
  6. Sent my 6000 in twice to minelab paid myself both times..the first time was before they admitted to the speaker issue so that was a fake on them paid by me as it did nothing to fix the detector... the second time was the speaker fix so I at least got a detector that worked properly after that...before that all i could think of was to get rid of the dam thing. It's a great detector now. really love using it.. strick
  7. "I usually use General or ATLC and the ID is the same on both of those modes." These are my two favorites unless I'm on the beach... WTG on the gold coin...cant tell you how many 22 brass I've dug looking for that elusive $1 gold coin...Nice work! strick
  8. Mine was purchased Dec 9th 2022...it same hardware version Steve...I still need to do the up date just so I can try it out...sorry for the dirty screen ๐Ÿ™‚ strick
  9. Congrats on the first gold nuggets... Gerry, Lunk and the rest of that crew have helped many a newbie get hooked on gold fever... My first time out with them and my first nuggets back in 2014 and yea I got hooked good times... strick

  11. Yea the covers are thin and cheap sometimes they warp and are hard to get a tight fit...so seems like gotta have extra coil covers when hunting in dirt...sand seems a bit different much easier on coils from my experience...but what do I know I don't get to hunt every day like some of the retired folks can...maybe you can wear through a epoxy made coil without a cover in one years time beach hunting? I'd like to know from someone that gets to hunt 4-5 days a week year around... strick
  12. Yep.. I'm at the point where I just leave the coil cover off whenever I hunt a sandy beach....how long do you think it would take to wear through the epoxy filled coil and ruin it? depends on how much you hunt right...for me it would be a very long time...by then I would have got my moneys worth and happily buy another coil to replace it. curious has anyone ever worn through their coil and ruined it? anyone have any pictures of what a ruined beach hunters coil looks like? strick
  13. I find it no harder to swing in sand than the Nox or deus 2....M-Core coils are light...are you saying that the cross supports catch the sand? interesting statement...I guess I'll have to pay a little more attention to that next time I'm out... strick
  14. "learn through digging" and its basically what I do with any new detector...skim over the manual then go out and dig dig dig. Just use the darn thing...There are some very knowledgable users on this site and since the talk is mostly about metal detectors I will pay attention to what they are saying about different settings coils programs etc...and then try that myself and see how things work out where I hunt.. strick
  15. Great story and a wonderful idea...I remember one old chopper pilot from the Vietnam conflict that loved detecting...it's a great hobby for anyone that wants to clear their head and forget anything for a bit.... including the time of day. strick
  16. Fun read so far...the Russian video speculation was my favorite lol... seems right on track...I'll say one thing..It's gonna have to be one hell of a detector for me to jump on board...curiously watching strick
  17. Does the box come with a packing slip ?
  18. Are you sure the track was oval and not a straight track? just sayin.. strick
  19. Yo 350 I put stuff like that in the tumbler and see what it turns out afterward...might give some ideas... hard nox might be on the right track... was thing the same...part of a bridal or something strick
  20. This is an easy one just ask Gerry I'm sure he knows of it since he is in your area. strick
  21. It's hard to imagine an earth quake of that magnitude lasting 4 minutes and 30 seconds..what a ride that must have been. In 1989 was an undergrad studying in a library (the quietest of all places) when the Loma Prieta earth quake occurred...and like you mentioned you could hear the rumbling coming before you could actually feel the quake..that one was only 6.9 and it only lasted less then 30 seconds so a 9.2 of over 4 minutes...crazy stuff... strick
  22. This apparatus goes under several names detecting pal..detecting pro. Serious detecting has them as well as Amazon...I use one when beach detecting with various machines....allows you to let go of the detector when retrieving the target as well as relieving the pressure on your arm and shoulder. I have fused vertebrae in my neck and it does not aggravate it what so ever...Have not used it however with the 7000. use the minelab harness for that or go buck naked.. strick
  23. The octagon..reminds me of some tokens Iโ€™ve found...are you sure itโ€™s a button? strick
