  1. Thanks as well. Now to just get out and try it. I was playing around with it at home and noticed that the good targets gave a signal in both directions and the iffy ones would be spotty inconsistent blurps. The detector is going to be very easy to get used to. I noticed that the aluminum shaft wants to loosen sometimes allowing the coil to turn to the left...but that an easy fix strick
  2. That Rudy sure knows how to sniff them nuggets out... like a Redbone hound. I ran into him while I was up there couple weeks ago and he was kind enough to share some of his secrets with me. Nice work Fellas.. strick
  3. Barracuda put up a great fight ! Hold onto that Rod! strick
  4. Thanks for the replies fellas....Interesting little read on bottles http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/44880-what-used-old-odd-bottle-round-bottom.html I give them to my buddies wife who puts them in her collection. She has a nice glass case they go into. Merton- Buddy likes to play with the Lizards mostly. When I tell him to "drop it" he seems more than happy to! Deathray- I fixed the pick....like new now.... only a couple inches shorter. I have yet to find anything really good near that chimney site.... The first time I hunted there I turned on the Deus walked 2 steps and found a nice very old Wheat penny. Thought to myself this is good ....I'm gonna kill it here. Only found one other coin a Chinese variety.....gave it to my bud who owns the place...and I been there about 4 times now lol. Clark I hope your right about the ring.. I've dug so much aluminum! Buddy goes to work with me every day. He can dig with the best of them..but like some prospectors he does not cover his holes! More photos for you dog loving Aussies! strick
  5. Thanks Bryan, I'll check into getting one of those shafts. Strick
  6. Working for a living is getting in the way of fun. I'm in a gold ring slump. Last one was the day before Christmas. We managed to get to the desert finally after nearly two years of trying. Most stuff is from locally. A friend has three ranches he lets me hunt on. The gold is hard to find....I'm just happy just to get away for the day and try and find anything to be honest. The parks are good to me sometimes. Looking forward to beaches and tops of the Sierras this Summer.. And hooking up with some of you! Happy hunting fellas.. strick
  7. I run the stock coil 90% of the time. I've also found good use with the 6" round and use the 10x5 occasionally. I use the 10x5 with the stock shaft and stock nut and bolt only problem is that it will not lay flat when you put the detector down to dig a target. The detector wants to tip over unless the ground is level. I just lay the detector on it's side in those situations. strick
  8. Very nice machine. Got mine in Yesterday. Played with it for a few minutes. Very easy to use...well balanced... I think I'm gonna like it! strick
  9. Looks like the moon and the tide lined up just right for you and your detector! Was up there myself last week (left Tuesday) Hopefully the clouds helped keep the heat off you. Nice photos strick
  10. Would buy one for sure...the SDC is a little awkward to use but it sure bangs the small gold. I finally put a different arm cuff on mine and now at least I don't have to fight that any more. Once in a while you still dig a hot rock with any PI. Hunt around heavy trash for a day and you will either grab your VLF.. or go home! strick
  11. I know nothing about dredging and have never tried it but like your attitude! Dredge away.. strick
  12. I know.... I know but sometimes I act on a whim... and my whim told me that those places and days are over. plus now I can probably get them for free on line! strick
  13. A for effort. I dug so many junk rings this past winter it gets depressing. Started relic hunting a bit more recently. It's good to be able to mix it up. I'm in the bay area (of N. Cal) so when I get sick of park hunting I can head to a beach or the foot hills etc.. strick
  14. Amen brother. My 18 year old just informed me he wants to join the Army. strick
  15. Everyone always asks "How did it happen" Not that many can say I was hunting for gold... I'll bet the the doctor and nurses got a few good stories out of you... Heal up and get back at it. strick
  16. I guess it a ll depends on what kind a a mood the driver and all the handlers before are in...recently had a a package with damaged good as well strick
  17. Scott- send one to who ever is in charge of marketing Minelab's miscellaneous parts....because it seems this is all they are doing.. strick
  18. Pretty sure he is in Mexico...been following his youtube channel for a while now. He does speak english and makes trips north of the border frequently to hunt beaches with some gringo friends that also have youtube channels. I'm not very good with speaking Spanish..bout all I can say is open the gate and close the gate and don't feed the horse lol strick
  19. The subject of the ferrite ring and ground balancing has come up again. I have one but thought I'd buy a back up just in case...can't find one anywhere...checked E bay, Amazon, Rob Allison's and Gerry's sites. Do a search for it on Minelab's web site can't find it there either this should not be so hard to buy....what a joke. Is the minelab ferrite ring any different then just any old ferrite ring? strick
  20. Ok here's a youtube link..looks like Mexico is gettin them before us lol
  21. Further elaboration.....I think you are partially right...the internet and social media are what the young generation is into these days...also sports is still growing strong.. I've tried to get my son into it but he has no interest in it right now probably because he hangs out with his buddies, has a girl friend, is a senior in high school, and getting ready to make his next move in life. Plus he works about 20 hours a week..that pretty much keeps him busy. I remember when I was 18 my father got a metal detector and was hitting old home sites. One day I happened to be driving by and saw his car so I stopped and watched him for a little while... But it did not really perk my interest enough. Like you back then I was into hunting mainly....and so the cycle goes on.... now Im doing what my father did when he was my age! At any rate lets face it this is an older persons hobby...when we have some free time on their hands, It's something different as some of us have done many different things in life and some of us have grown out of wanting to kill animals and such. It's hunting without the killing. Keep showing all the treasures and people will always buy metal detectors. And now I find out that my 20 year old daughter and her boyfriend are going to Pismo in a couple weeks and guess what? they want to borrow one of my detectors... so there is some hope! strick
  22. This is easy...you need to sell the dream which is finding GOLD! I would not tell how hard it is to find however. Just tell them hard work always pays off. strick
