A short hunt just before sunset snagged this small 2.2 gram 14K in the salt water with the Nox 800.

That's an incredible collection! I used to save everything and from starting in the '70's, had boxes of stuff. So later on it had to go starting with the "junk" finds and progressing up to the better stuff. I still keep gold and the nicer silver rings.

I have spoken to Minelab about the charging ports and they suggested to clean them with 70% alcohol to help with any forming corrosion. I use mine mostly in the salt water.

What an excellent hunt! 13 grams of gold is sweet. I'd like to try some fresh water hunts here in Florida but the fear of alligators keeps me in the salt.

Nice detective work Jim. That’s great news for Deborah and everyone else who has been waiting on the sidelines to see what the outcome would be. The Garrett Infinium is another machine that wants you to run the coil wire about 18 inches straight up the shaft before wrapping it around and connecting to the box.

Nice early score! A few years back a group of us guys and a few wives all met for a hunt. The guys headed out for a long hike and one of the ladies who was a little concerned about snakes, stayed near the vehicles. She was the only one who dug gold. Probably didn’t venture more than 100 feet. 😆

The only one I knew really well was Jim Malone. He has since passed away. We were partners along with another guy for two winter seasons in Arizona. We had a track hoe and a recirculating wash plant and metal detectors. Biggest nugget we found was the “bow tie” nugget. A 3 ounce beauty! After that venture I went back to gold hunting with a dirt bike and a metal detector in Arizona and Jim ended up in Nevada where he did really well.

Have you tried switching arms? I have gotten pretty good at swinging the coil with either arm.

I’m going to guess that around 3 or 4 feet deep they were looking for a “black” band of soil/ small gravel/ grit, that was said to contain the ancient diamond bearing gravels. A little hard to describe but I saw the dark bands and they were in various thickness of 2 to 5 inches thick. They intently mined these bands and would use classifying screens and water to segregate the gravels. They showed me diamonds “in the rough” and once seen are pretty much unmistakable from the surrounding gravel matrix. There is a lot of quartz that can fool you if you’re not schooled properly.

I went to the diamond grounds in Arkansas quite a few years ago. I met 2 guys who were digging deep holes by hand and were quite experienced in the whole process. They were a bit secretive and were probably badgered by the casual tourists and not too talkative. I was in the process of returning from a successful Winter gold nugget hunt in Arizona. I asked them if they ever saw raw gold nuggets and they said no. After I showed them the nuggets they were more than happy to show me just what they were looking for, how they were doing it and what they were finding. Haven’t been back since but it’s on my soon to do bucket list.

Here's the story...This small beach is hunted hard and regularly by me and others in the water. It's been sanded in for quite awhile with only a meager find once in a while. I happened to find an area no more than 100 feet by 40 feet that was amazingly full of targets. This shows 2 hunts in the same day (one in the morning that found the majority of targets and the other just before sunset), about 6 hours total, gridding in the water waist to chin deep. 3 rings all junk, ( the gold plated one had my attention for about 10 seconds); 41 coins and a good running watch. Surprisingly very little trash. Went back the next day and all was gone except for a few pennies. Been checking back every so often but nothing has been showing up. Last time there a 4 hour water hunt produced a few coins.
