  1. Welcome aboard Rob, and take your time with the 800 and it will serve you well. I am still learning with mine and I can tell you that it has found me some really great items.
  2. I count more than 12 old guys, which one is he? Better yet who is the blonde with the M/L detectors.
  3. Wish they would do something like that near the Saint Louis, Mo. area, I would love to go to that. Great pictures and thanks a million for sharing them.
  4. Because it is so much cheaper to make a square box than a round one. Have you ever tried to eat a whole round pizza before, you have to wipe the sauce off your face to many times. Hope I cleared that up for you Simon.
  5. I will have to do this more often as I am guilty of not being as patient as I should be. I am on this forum to learn as much as I can to improve my skills and learn my new 800. Time will tell if I can master the tools I have, both equipment and person.
  6. Good article on this subject as we here in the USA have had a problem getting the materials at a stable price for a long time. The only factory that made the rare earth magnets here i the USA went out of business a couple of years ago due to the Chinese manufactures buying up the material and selling it so cheap it put us out of business. I was working with a lot of magnets and had to purchase them for our manufacturing process when I found it out. The company we were buying from sent us a letter that explained it to us in great detail. Glad to hear about this and hope it helps us to be free from the Asian markets for what we need.
  7. Don't feel bad I have wondered the same thing myself as I have had it so many times I can't count them all. Thanks Jeff for clearing it up for me also.
  8. Well today I had the rare chance to get out for a sort time and do some hunting. Just as I was walking out the door my wife tells me to take the dog with me. This is a small dog who is hyper as a butterfly in a wind tunnel. All the way to the ball field I wanted to try Rusty was being very good the whole time, and I am thinking that just maybe he was going to be good. When we arrived at the ball field he stayed close to me as I retrieved the old Tracker IV out of the trunk. I started to head to the field and he takes off like a rocket. I let him run for just a couple of minutes while I got the detector ready to start swinging. I called him over and to my surprise he came running back, and I am thinking that he is finally going to be good. I start walking in the direction that I had been wanting to search and get a wonderful tone sounding in my ears. I start digging my hole and look to see where Rusty is and he is on the other side of the field. I call him back again, tell him to sit, and start digging again. I pull out a dime (1967) try to show Rusty what I found and to my surprise he's gone again. Once again I look for the darn dog, and now this time he is on the opposite side of the field, so I call him again and he comes back. Fill in the hole and stand up. Now where is that dog? Yep he is on the other side of the field again and it wasn't 20 seconds since I last saw him. This time when he gets back I really scold him and I thought he got the message. Nope he didn't, just as I have another target to dig, so I stick my sod cutter i the ground to mark the spot to dig. I get Rusty to come back to me and we start walking back to the car so maybe I can find a leash for him. I look down at him and in his mouth is my sod cutter. Yep he pulled it out of the ground and carried it back to the car. I put him in the car with the windows half way down and walk about 30 feet away from the car and hit another good sounding tone, another dime about 6 inches deep. This one was a 1983, but in usable condition, nothing special about it just dirty and slightly tarnished. Within another 6 feet a really good sound that I had to dig, but it came out to be a Falstaff beer bottle cap. By this time Rusty is crying so bad I let him out and he really tried to stay by me until I found another target which turned out to be a soda can. Needless to say it was a very short hunt as I gave up after only 25 minutes. Lesson of this story is that never listen to the wife and never take the dog again. The old tracker does find good targets and junk so you never know just what will show up. Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Owner's Manual
  9. Nice find you got there, and I know that you are ready to go find his big brother so all I can say is good luck.
  10. Great find keep up the good work. Looks like a small ring for a girl.
  11. Nice story and great job to bring back a 2000 year old knife to it's original beauty. Thanks for sharing the story Steve.
  12. I still say we need to find a small piece of ground in the next state and tunnel to the mine so that California won't know what hit them.
  13. JP, great thread with some interesting observations that you included. I believe that most of what you detailed can be used here in the USA in certain areas. Hope to learn more and I will keep watching the new threads.
  14. Best wishes for a safe race to all that attend.
  15. Nice hunt and wish you more luck in the future. Bigger rings and things come to those who swing.
  16. Welcome to the forum, and there are many people who would enjoy having you for a hunt. Should you be in the Saint Louis, Missouri area maybe we could meet up and have some fun at a few old sites around my part of the country.
  17. Great article with information that I never knew about. Thanks for posting it.
  18. Thanks for sharing the picture, and I know that you are going to have some great finds. Nice detector!
  19. I have to say that you got more than I did, all it showed me was the words off on a metal detecting expedition and a smiley face.
  20. Should a person want to have a really big payday, you have to have really big plans. I know that Steve H. would be the best person for all this coming together and benefit everyone on the forum. Lets raise the money, get the mine and take all the assets to another state to avoid the California taxes, that is why we have to have the tunnel. Just think about the money we could all have IT'S NEARLY $17.00. Now we really have to convince all the members to chip in for this, Steve knows the business end of it as well as the mining of it.
  21. That is a nice little ring, I bet the little girl who lost it must be heart broken. Well until daddy buys her a new one. Thanks for the picture.
  22. Even after I had enlarged the photo I could not make it out, I guess at my age my eyes are not as good as they used to be.
  23. Great hunt and fantastic finds. Was that a diamond ring I saw in the picture?
  24. Great little finds you got, and they do add up over time. What type of detector did you use and how much trash did you have to put up with.
  25. Since it's a mine we could just extend the tunnels to the next state and clean out all the gold on the way. All we would need is to get a small piece of land to make an exit.
