  1. Great story Lanny, glad to see the gold that you found, and wish you luck on your next adventure.
  2. I don't use cell phones so I would not know if that is the same, but I did notice a big difference with EMI where I have been hunting. I am not close to a beach and hunt mostly parks, and old homesteads. I am glad that I did the upgrade as I do see a lot of improvement with my 800.
  3. The other day GB-Amateur said something that caught my interest about EMI problems with the 800. So I could not help myself on trying to figure out why. I first rolled back to my original software 1.75 and went outside to look in my yard like i normally would. Every time I had gotten within 50 feet of the power lines the unit would give false ID's of what was on the ground, and it just got worse from there. I went further away from the lines and it would clear up until I got near the front of my home where my wifi router is located. When I looked at the display the display numbers were bouncing once again. When I went to the back yard away from everything the 800 was as always working like it should and I even found a 1951 quarter. I went back into the house to do the upgrade once again and retraced my steps with the new update. I had no problems under the power lines no mater how close I got to them, I did find some really good targets that I will go back and dig up when it gets warmer. I went to the front of my house and once again the 800 worked as it should without any interference at all. That is until I walked up to the front porch window and then I had a little bit of bouncing numbers. I believe that the new update has solved most if not all of the EMI problems that I have had in the past, which is a good thing for me. Under the power lines is where the used to tie up the horse carriages at the original church and that is where I have found some coins from the 1800's. Now with this new update I feel more confident that I will be able to find some really nice items there, and in my front yard. Thanks for reading and tell me what you think about your update and EMI problems since the update.
  4. All I can say is WOW, if I would have found that my first 2 weeks I would be as happy as a mouse in a cheese factory!
  5. Very nice hunt, great job on the finds. That button sure cleaned up nice.
  6. Truly remarkable finds and I am glad to know you. This summer you will have to teach me how to find some of those nice relics. Or you can come here and I will show you where I find some newer coins.
  7. Those type of tags were like the ones from the Vietnam war, people used to honor the soldier that was killed. I still have a couple of them from when my neighbors were killed there. They were good people and part of the money from them went to their families.
  8. However winter electric heat is worse in most cases for EMI, but the compressors do give off a lot also. I am not sure what they could have done to suppress the EMI but I for one am glad they figured it out.
  9. For that all you need is a bowl of milk and a liter box. Then try to put a flea collar on it. I find that for snakes and big cats carry some moth balls as both of those critters hate it.
  10. I noticed that after the new update on my 800 the EMI seemed to be less. I hunted under some power lines in my front yard and for the first time had no problems. What version are you running, is it the new update?
  11. Great job and wonderful finds. Glad to see you hitting on those good targets, by the way how much trash did you have to dig to get those finds.
  12. Nice finds and beautiful 10 cent piece. Yes those newer coins don't hold up very good, the older the better.
  13. A friend has used the spray on truck bed liner on his coils and has never had a problem. That stuff is tough and if put on properly it will never give a problem again. Hope that helps after your unit dries out.
  14. My luck has ringing in my ears all the time, so I have to pay extra close attention to what the machine is telling me. I will hear the tones, and check the VDI that is shown to decide when to dig. This is a hobby that takes time to learn your equipment to become good at it, so take your time and have some fun.
  15. Depth is a relative word used for advertisement by some of the manufactures. When they say deep it usually means 6-10 inches below the ground. Rule of thumb is 1 inch per $100 for the price of the unit, and never expect to find anything several feet below the ground without special units made for that. There are several units out there that cost tens of thousands that will go very deep, but for everyday use they are not worth the money. The Vanquish is showing to be a very good entry level unit that will give results like the Equinox 800. There are several post on this forum about the quality of it, and I suggest that you look into one of those.
  16. When I was looking for a metal detector for multi-purpose use I did get the Equinox 800 for that reason. The price was right and will do more than the upper Whites in my opinion. The Vanquish is also one that I have my eye set on and is at a lower price yet. I have only heard good things about it.
  17. Good finds and it does look as if some of them were quite deep. What was the average depth of those coins?
  18. I found that some electronics will dry out better using instant oats instead of rice. I purchase a large container of them just for that reason, and after they dry out what they are on I will allow them to dry in the oven for an hour for reuse. Hope this helps.
  19. I know it is Friday and a few people have already started drinking, but even this is making me want a couple pints of moonshine. Problem is all I have is a full gallon so that will have to do, never been that good at math while drinking so that will have to do.
  20. That has been the way I was taught years ago and it works every time.
  21. That is a very special field and they usually only work for museums as they are expensive to use. Look for a museum in your area and ask them to recommend some for what you want and they should help you find someone that will do it. I am sorry for not knowing more about it and that is what I would do.
  22. Simon, This is a link to a headphone amplifier I have set up for several different people with different types of detectors. This will work on just about anything that I have come across, but you must use wired headphones. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HP2TRS--presonus-hp2-15-personal-headphone-amplifier
  23. Thank you so much, as I had no clue to what it was. I am just getting into the coins and had never seen one of those. The condition looks like it is great for it's age.
