No disrespect Jeff, I love your experience, and willingness to share tons of great information! Thank You!?? But I think the above is a bit of an overstatement, if it is referring to Kac's issue with "blanking" on a particular piece of metal! Or a few other people's "issues" with the machine! I did not see any bashing of either machine; unless I missed something! And I have no stake in either machine! I am miles behind you, and many others "knowledge wise" on the forum! But even with the detectors I own, I would not second guess someone else's experiences so quickly, without the exact machine and conditions to repeat for myself! And even then, I think that it could have been responded to a little differently! You yourself said directly above, that, among other things, you have a love/hate relationship with both machines! So why are someone else's experiences so easily discounted, or not taken for face value of a new user that may have found what could be an interesting anomaly, that you just may have been automatically dealing with on your own machine? This is not a challenge, or attack on you! But it is merely an observation I made, after reading, and rereading the whole exchange, over a few days, trying to soak up all the great information! If I misread the situation, I apologize ahead of time! But it makes it harder for someone at my level, to want to solicit advice, or post my issues with any detector here, for "fear" of judgement, instead of instruction, or help with solving the problem; perceived or not!??

I detected a nudist beach once! Wasn't intentional! No really!!!! I don't know what kind of image I left them; I was clothed! But I had some images I'd rather forget!? I got good quick, at keeping my eyes on proper coil swing, and speed! And didn't stay long!!! And yes, I told the wife when I got home!! Actually I think I called her, after I made it back to my truck!???

A Day In The Village Hunting

I think both disciplines have their place! But there is a fine line between everything being hidden away in a museum for only academics to view! Or hidden away in someone's display case, or closet, for their own enjoyment! There's a place for both! Especially when it comes to objects that are no longer in context (situ) in farm fields, beaches etc..! On private, and public lands! I think the Eurpeans have it set up with as good of a balance to both sides as you could ask for! Both sides benefit, and foster respect! And few(er) issues with artifact thieves, as they are more likely to be reported! And before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch, this is a personal observation, not a political one! I value both disciplines with near equal importance!??? -
Geof, I could swear a coin die ran over that thimble! Now that's rare!??

A Day In The Village Hunting
Joe D. replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Great story! And thanks for teaching, and helping to save history! Archaeologists should be more respectful towards, and work better with, detectorists! We shouldn't ALL be punished for a few bad apples! I sharpened the signet ring best I could with limited software! Almost looks like two birds looking at one another!! A bird of prey and a dove? Or firebird and mate? Maybe representing war and peace, or male and female, or life and death?? There appears to be a clear center line, inferring some type of separation between the two! Except one "wing" of the "dove", which appears to be over the chest of the other "bird" on the left! And the two curved outer lines closing them in; not unlike a modern heart symbol, or open ended "earth to sky" oval, suggesting some type of relationship, and/or ascension upward! Maybe a warrior being led by an ancestor!? JMO!! I'm no professor or archeologist! But I am a fan of iconology, and ancient history! And of course, more "modern" history, since that is the majority of what we have in the States!! And i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express!??? -
My Grandfather was in one of the 101st Airborne misdrops! But still made it home in one piece! One of his brothers arrived on the sixth day! Another was with Patton's tanks elsewhere with the distraction force! My Grandmother had seven brothers in the war! Don't know how many made it home! Those that did, didn't talk about it much after getting home! I'm sure most of that was due to the survivors guilt they felt, for all of their friends and brothers that are still buried there today!????

9" Round HF Sensitivity To Thin Flat Iron Question
Joe D. replied to kac's topic in XP Metal Detectors
Enjoyed the video! Very informative! Thanks Jeff! It's funny, even though I've never used an Orx or Deus, I see many commonalities with other detectors, when it comes to investigating a target! I believe it's a lot like splitting hairs these days, with most modern detectors! Everyone has their favorite to use, but most all of us have more than one we still use, or keep around for various reasons! There's alot of overlap amongst them, but it funny how we always feel in-tune with a particular unit, over the others! Nothing wrong with that; and no reason that should ever change! "Different strokes for different folks" as long as we don't loose perspective that they are only tools, and we are the brains of the operation! Nothing "yet" can replace that!?? -

9" Round HF Sensitivity To Thin Flat Iron Question
Joe D. replied to kac's topic in XP Metal Detectors
No judgement here! I actually think that this is a good catch on your part, no matter how or why it's doing this! May help others down the road! That being said, being a new detector, I would hope the response you get from the manufacturer either solves the issue, or they replace, or repair your unit! Good information, regardless! And I'm out of likes for now! I'll hit you, Jeff, and a few others back, when I get a refill! I'm always running a deficit, when trying to catch up on the forum! So much to like!??? -

Interesting find! Too bad it wasn't like the one above, in condition! The last two aluminum tokens I found were in salt water mud, about 8 inches down! And had to be more modern, because they were in decent shape! They were a few feet from one another, and had the Ten Commandments on them! ??? -
A Test Garden Idea For Beach Hunters
Joe D. replied to ColonelDan's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
Hey Colonel Dan, Just a little update! I'm in the process of collecting my square cat litter buckets from my neighbor (still need more) to create my portable test garden for home! I think I will line the inside of the bucket where the slots are, with bicycle inner tube, or a piece of shower liner to minimize sand loss! The rubber with a single slit behind the bucket hole should suffice to accomplish this nicely! I also will use my large bar magnet to clean the different soil buckets that will be iron free! But will have a few intentionally littered with iron bits to simulate a few beaches I occasionally hit that have iron groins shedding every hundred yards or so! I also want to have one with those melted aluminum bits I also run into! If anyone wants to send me some dirt littered with gold nuggets, I won't say no!? If you have any more suggestions you want to share, post away! I really appreciate the idea for the buckets! ?? -
Good thing it wasn't under one of those "magic blanking targets" else you would have never found it!!?? ??

Memorial Weekend Contest, Win A Minelab GPX 6000 Dream
Joe D. replied to Gerry in Idaho's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Thank's for your service Gerry, and all the other's that served, and those who didn't come home!!???? And of course the contest! That was fun, and solemn at the same time! Not an easy combo to pull off! Jeff, congratulations! You are well deserving of the prize, and are in the right places to put it to good use! I only entered once to give you all a better chance,? and to enjoy a rare picture of my good looking mug!? Not to much call for a Monster in S. Florida, but who knows; the occasional nugget does turn up at the 1715 wreck sites on the Treasure Coast!?? -

Old Nc Farmhouse Hunt Continues
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Aww man,? I heard about the huge tick outbreak this year! Supposedly the same here in the woods! But I haven't been out in the woods since hunting season, so only fleas, an mosquitos to deal with! And the occasional iguana! Yeah, get checked; lyme is no joke either! Would be nice to have A preventative vaccine for that too! But probably not profitable enough for big pharma!?? -
Old Nc Farmhouse Hunt Continues
Joe D. replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
My ears are fond of the high conductors, thanks to some hearing loss! Probably can be said of many as we age, or damaged thru the years, working around loud sounds! But I'm several decades late for the silver rush! That's on me! I like your variety of finds! You are getting on very well with the Nox! Keep up the good work! Since the dog days of summer are here, the A/C is preferred over swimming through the humidity and heat! Even the pool is already uncomfortably hot!? About the only thing that will get me out now will be a big storm to eat away at the replenished beaches! Looks like many of the states will be suffering the heat wave this year! Be careful, and drink lots of fluids! Heat exhaustion/stroke, and kidney stones are no joke!?? -
Vehicles Found On Beach..
Joe D. replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I find them on the beaches fairly often, but they are not very old! If they aren't corroded, I leave them at the beach entry for other kids, or give them away to those "future treasure hunters" who inevitably follow me at the beach! They will run back to show a parent, and it gives me enough time to escape, and refocus on my detecting!??? -
Hello and welcome bluemask, We have a few of your countrymen here on the forum! Tremendous history there! Love the odds you have of finding ancient historic items! Post some pics as you find them!??
