  1. Yup yup . That be true Toad.. Mine works just fine so far but I haven't submerged it yet either. I'd set it in a bathtub full of water overnight just to find out if it did leak before the warranty runs out ,,,,,,,,,,,,but then I could be without "my precious" 800. LOL I do realize the leaky units (and coil ear breaks) could be caused by one issue that only happened for a short time during production and the ones we hear about are a small % of total production. But maybe not......or , maybe they just want us to buy 2 and have a back up. 😜
  2. If you look at the Minelab Forum there is a subforum you can click on that is ALL Equinox. Clicking this link will take you there https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/forum/53-minelab-equinox-forum/ Presets are a good place to start and if you want to customize , tweaking info is plentiful. Have you done the updates to your EQX 800 yet ? Here's the links. 2.0: https://www.minelab.com/usa/equinox-software-update-2-0 3.0: https://www.minelab.com/usa/equinox-software-update-3-0 Ask all the questions you have ...yes even the the ones you think are dumb . No such thing here. May all your beeps be golden............
  3. The devil is in the details.... good luck with your decisions. Anything you come up with or not has to be right for you. You sure seem to be on the right track so far. Keep up the good work.
  4. There were still a lot of good reasons why I chose the 800. Just not happy with myself for not finding all the issues before deciding....
  5. I guess it is what it is.. As if anything isn't what it is.... LOL
  6. That' might have been from someone "picking up" after their pet , except for the picking up part. Maybe the last dog's owner did pick up and the "doo dropper" was just re-marking the same spot ? Hey , If you've found a method that works , why not ? No gold ring ? Bad dog , no biscuit !
  7. Heya Eric What are you interested in finding ? I hear there's good gold in that area you're in...and just a bit of history buried there too !
  8. welcome aboard You hit pay dirt when you came here. What detector did you choose and how do you think you'll be using it ? IE: coins , relics , jewelry , gold and looking at beaches , fields , parks , desert. That will get some suggestions going.
  9. I hear that Steve! You were one of the lucky ones. I had my dream job doing the concert circuit too , I still do a freebie on occasion for old friends but usually on a much smaller scale. BUT when I scored the pirate ship captain gig I think I found my true self ! That might be why I ended up here ? skuh kuh kuh kuh kuh I even wrote a song for the kiddies ( yeah , it was in a theme park ! ) and they loved it ! I normally don't do this but to stay a tiny bit on topic (gold) just for the gang here it is , hope y'all like it , I think you will. Row row row yer boat , across the ocean green. Merrily , merrily , merrily , merrily ,,,,,ALL THE GOLD'S FOR MEEEEEEEEE arrrrrrrrrrrrrr ! (I release my rights on this one if any of you want to use it while prospecting) It was all the wardrobe lady's fault , she told me to lead the kids in row row row yer boat if I ran out of things to say ( yes there was a script, which I accidentally dropped overboard the first day while walking the gunn'als,, OOOOPS ! ) "Run out of things to say ! " she had NO idea........ If you can't live your passions , that's gotta suck.
  10. I like the "solid coil mount " with the ears on the rod end idea . Minelab could change future coils to that version and only have to replace older design coils in stock that break. Maybe their design engineers could come up with a better idea to improve the coil tabs AND an add-on strengthener kit for the still in use coils . One of my old bosses used to tell me right before showing me an impossible show rider.."If you're half the engineer I think you are you can make it work !" (He probably told all of us that LOL) Customers that have to deal with this issue several times probably aren't going to be the best advertising for ML ! I'm sure there are a LOT of these coils already made and fixing them all has a cost , but so does bad press . I'm surprised at how well those here are coping with this problem , kudos guys ! As a new Nox owner I'm not too happy finding all this out after purchase .( my research bad , and I waited 2 years ! ) This and the waterproof issue is bad enough to make me seriously wonder about future ML choices (a 6000???) Hope they figure out a solution soon. Or at least tell us they're trying........ Until then...I'm not submerging the control unit and not swinging a coil as close to the ground as I want to...arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  11. Not even 7am and I'm already out of likes ! It's the first time so I guess that's a good thing ! I substitute this instead+++
  12. Chase I was just trying to find a way to make all those tacks more interesting....lol So , you're not ruling out the Jed Clampett theory ? I knew I was on to something !
  13. If you find a pile of them you might have just discovered where a field medic was working..... ouch !
  14. In bands huh ? Hmmmmmmmmmm Almost like they ran out of ammo and loaded a cannon with whatever they thought would be effective ? Maybe Jed Clampett loading his shotgun shells for those rabbits for the same reason? I knowwwwww , I "ain't right" ,,,but sometimes I yam
  15. After reading this thread I think I'll be using F2 from now on. Starting on 0 and adjusting up only if buried in trash.. (you can change my "default" poll vote if you want Steve)
  16. Maybe someone burned a pile of old furniture there , , if you find a lot of nails too the furniture was in a house or barn...LOL The rectanglular real hole could have been made with a square nail ?
  17. I just checked mine and it's 8 pin. 7 outer and 1 in the middle. Be careful to note where the indexing notch is . We used to call these connectors DIN in my world. There's probably a 4 or 5 pin on your old CB mic. If I had a nickel for every time I forgot to put a connector cover or some heat shrink on before starting to solder..........I wouldn't care about gold ! LOL I started my tron life at 12yo ! Liquid tape is "the balls" as one of my friends used to say. (Use a little around the ends of the heat shrink unless it's the kind that has sealer inside to add a bit more waterproofing , ). OH and ML not wanting to fix that connector probably something about waterproofing ? Or doubts of consumer doing the soldering.
  18. I used a "stud finder" back in the day. It was MY first. For pinpointing , as well as the studs (metal or just the screws) I needed to find to hang kitchen cabinets..... hey , I had it already and no knowledge of anything else . As far as THE first , I'll go with the V's L above,,, A.G. Bell .
  19. As long as the buyer and seller are both happy....it's a good deal IMO . Especially if the little lady is happy....
  20. Welcome aboard , I started with a Micronta made by Bounty Hunter from the Shack of Rats a @$%%$&& years ago.
  21. I did the poll on this one but chose just defaults.. Not enough time on my Nox to sus out the details of favorites yet. These threads are of great interest to me however , thx for yet more info to digest.
