  1. The woman in the video is a pleasure to listen to, she has a real good personality for U-tube videos. She congers up a little bit of a smile in the way she talks and acts. Not a fake act.
  2. Like many folks, I like to carry 2 detectors in case one has trouble I can continue on, I am going to take the 6000 and 7000 with me from no on and retire my 5000, but I will never sell it. Since I retired I had more time to get to know the 5, finally really felt comfortable understanding all of the timings just in time for the 6000 to come out, dang, all that learning for almost nothing. Gold Catcher, thanks for posting this video.
  3. Very well put abensen and Steve, things I have to keep in mind during my next outing with the 6000.
  4. I bought my 6 last September and used it for 3 days the last of October. I have not been able to get to a gold location since due to Winter weather and the closest place I can look for gold is 6 1/2 to 7 hours drive one way. Now fuel prices are a deterrent to extensive travel for my 1 ton truck ( my only vehicle ). I did get out locally meteorite hunting for an hour or so using the 17''. I am concerned about my 6000 as I have not been able to use it enough to see if it will develop problems. It sure is a concern as hearing about so many folks having problems short and long term.
  5. Good advice Jeff. troutsnouter, you may want to start off small and work your way up after learning more about finding gold like many of us have. Learning the very basics gives you a valuable education to give you confidence to expand your prospecting knowledge. Wish you the very best.
  6. 350, you mention tics, funny you see on TV that there is a pill for dogs and cats to ward off tics, but not for people. Nice half of half find.
  7. I tend to agree with you Cipher, tuff call sometimes, but these things would not be found if not for you or others in the same circumstances. Perhaps if something is of incredible historic value something could be worked out with a Museum or authorities. Good luck with your finds.
  8. That's a 4+gram beauty prunt, I'd be real happy to find one that size.
  9. Windy conditions and cold days, I use headphones, the 6000 phones are the best Minelab has offered in my opinion, very comfortable, I have a good set of blue tooth ear buds for other times. I don't mind using the speaker at times also. A lot of good options with this detector. I used the 17'' the other day looking for meteorites in Utah, and had no problems with that coil as I had a little apprehension due to some other post I have seen.
  10. Wow, a lot of shotgun pellets, I have hit a lot but not that many in one detector session. Nice little gold, hope to get out and get some of my own soon. Thanks for posting.
  11. I high wind, the other option is to go back to camp and have a few beers and look forward to tomorrow.
  12. Nice finds strick, I would love to find finds like you have. Been just looking for gold for some time but becoming more of a fan for coins and relics lately.
  13. I think this discussion shows that having and keeping more than one detector can contribute to a more well rounded metal detecting experience.
  14. Yea, it's tuff going in the wind. Sometimes you have to do the best you can. The only way, with headphones, is to keep the wind to your back which includes walking backward to detect for piece then forward again! Weird but the only way you can hear at all sometimes.
  15. jasong, Nick Zenter is one of the best most interesting presenters of ancient history in parts of the West. There is also a theory of a huge Lake Montana in Canada also breaking out of an ice dam and creating a huge flood flowing out the St. Lawrence Seaway. When much sea ice was locked up on land during the last Ice Age, the oceans were up to 300 feet below current sea levels. You can imagine that many villages and towns were built along areas that are now under water. Many of the large releases of major large bodies of water would have flooded many of the low lying towns and villages. We know some about the Ice Age lakes here on our continent, how many more of this type of event happened around the rest of the world?
  16. Amazing how sensitive that X-coil is on that tiny piece of gold at inches above the coil. Good story, pictures, and gold. Sounds like a fun time. Good luck next adventure.
  17. I also subscribe to ICMJ, the only magazine I get any more. The ( now previous ) owners have sold it to a new husband and wife team recently.
  18. Looks like Lady Diane and Diane picked up some bad gold in mouth habits from someone. Nice write-up Gerry.
  19. Thanks 350, had a good one, hope you did too.
