This may appear to be a stupid question too most of you folks but i have no knowledge of nugget hunting,i can understand what happens when you find just a pure gold nugget but what happens when the gold is mixed with other items like the quartz that has been mentioned or in veins if that is the right terminolligy with other rocks.

 

Do you crush it or use chemicals to disolve the rocks and just the gold is left,crushing would seem the logic method but most likely miles off on that one.

 

Can some one enlighten me please in laymans language,you can tell i am a total gold nugget novice

the pieces we are finding are in quartz rocks. we crush it then pan it out. only problem some of the bigger pieces get crushed down also. but that's the only way I know how to free up the gold.

What is the regular ore paying when you crush it?

If you find the right buyer you may make more selling the pieces 'as is' rather than just crushing it down.  If you take a few pictures of it before you crush it next time and then post it here or on other forums you might get a buyer for the 'pretty gold' rather than the gold by weight.

Impressive gold! What detector are you using for these tailings. I know a guy who's used the Gold Bug2 with a 14" coil in the tailings around La Porte. Thanks.

thanks guys, I am using whites GMT with dd coil. it works great at finding the really small pieces.

I tried the gpx 5000 but it is easier with the gmt. I am surprised at some of the tiny pieces we find. best take so far 28 grams in a day and a half
