  1. Welcome to the forum. There is a book by Chris Ralph called Fist Full Of Gold. I snagged a copy and gives a great over view on prospecting. Might fill in some of the missing info you may need. Best of luck out there!
  2. Welcome! There is a classified section to sell stuff detecting and prospecting related.
  3. Surprised it held up so well, pin in back in still intact, was face up all this time .
  4. Housing sales might go into a slump with the virus going on, may work out in your favor. There is an old farm next town over that had an old civ war training camp. They broke most the property up and stuck large monopoly houses on it leaving only a small patch of the original ground left. Someone was able to grease the palms of progress to get that past the hysterical society (not historical society).
  5. Congrats! Is there a difference between determination and not knowing when to go home? Either way it payed off!
  6. I didn't expect the Profind to run so much better. Just got the rechargeable because I got tired of replacing 9v's. Nice not needed to turn it off then back on again if you lay it down. Actually like this pp now. I suspect when other pp's act up it could be just low battery power.
  7. They do look like real diamonds, cleaned them up, all edges are nice and crisp, no refractions at all. Need a better loupe to look for any artifacts inside. If I buy a diamond tester I will probably never find another diamond haha.
  8. Been a while since I have found a gold ring, usually these parts I find ear rings, silver rings etc. Found this one in a park I hit all the time, down about 6" or so between some miserable cans. Guessing the cans kept it safe from other guys that detect there 🙂 Also in the mix is a 1919 wheatie and my usual clad/trash for the day.
  9. The Profind seems more sensitive to low voltage, probably why it has mixed reviews. I have no falsing out since I put the lithium battery in. Be nice if ML just made it rechargeable in the first place.
  10. Good to know. I bet the salt will kill it even quicker. Deeptech has a nice sand scoop design but the handle is too short.
  11. I have am RTG wire scoop with adjustable handle. It is pretty light but I find small stuff falls through the square wire mesh pretty easy. Drove me crazy trying to get a necklace out of the water and reminds me of one the arcade machines with the claw trying to get stuff. For the most part it works good. Always wondered if anyone has tried a mud shovel?
  12. Got sick of buying 9v batteries for my Profind pp. Blackube just came out with rechargeable 9v lithium batters that have the same voltage as an alkaline. A little pricey at $25 for 2 but the PP no longer falses out when put on it's side then turned back up. This used to drive me crazy. Batteries put out near full power until they run out instead of fading in power like alkalines do. IMO worth the few extra bucks.
  13. Out of the kindness of my heart I have been leaving the Stinkin" Zincolns for the next generation of detectorists. They woun't have much as we do more digital transactions and cash becomes less scarce.
  14. Nice to see nickels in an area, good chance they passed over any gold too. I dig all ring tabs even though they are obvious as the rare occasions they are flying eagles. I try to keep my aluminum picking between beaver tails and square tabs so I get my fair share of cut and bent square tabs. Larger aluminum I think is easier to distinguish. Thats a really good run you had congrats!

MXT is a solid machine, know a guy that has founds tons of great coins with one. Welcome to the forum.
  16. To address the MK from my experience so far. 2 tone and deep mode are similar in recovery speed but deep mode may have a slower recovery but not by much and are slower much slower and work well in low trash areas. Beach mode is similar to 2 tone but has disc and gb set for salt. 3 tone is the fastest recovery speed which ideal for the trashiest places with a recovery speed faster than my brain can keep up with. 4 tone I can't say is slower than 3 tone but has much gain and depth with less filtering which makes it tricky to use in high target/trashy areas. You can in many cases hear different targets when moving the coil slowly in 4 tone. I can't hunt in 4 tone as it is tough to follow however I do use it often on target checking. I am taking a wild guess that the Apex will be much tamer, smoother and easier to use than the 4 tone on the Kruzer/Amphibio machines based off of what Garrett has done in the past. I have a feeling it will be a really easy machine to run and learn. Will it have blistering recovery? Don't know but not having a recovery speed controls is not a deal breaker especially with a machine in that price range. My MK doesn't have recovery speed controls and hasn't been an issue so long as I use the right mode for the job at hand. Sorry for the long winded response.
  17. Great find. Yours looks like a large moto, same as ones I have found but in awesome condition! Coins like that in that era you may want to dig your folded ring tabs as they can be flying eagles and dig the smaller hits for Trimes and other small hard to find coins. 2 cent in the area is a really good sign for others.
  18. Thanks! Was almost ready to use my auto darkening welding helmet.
  19. Wondering if anyone else has this issue with glare when detecting with the sun behind your back. The big screen reflects back. I was wondering if anyone has tried any anti-glare film and have any suggestions.
  20. Welcome to the forum. Great place for info here.
  21. AT Pro standard mode is similar to the standard Ace series. AT Pro will lock onto a target seems to lock when you hover over target in a mix of other targets it will isolate it. MK does this incredibly fast but I think it can get really tricky when you have 5 tones. I like the feature on the Pro 2 tones + iron and the MK 3 tone mode but find it difficult in the MK 4 tone mode and find myself re-sweeping and crawling the coil trying to sort it all out. Be interesting to see the Apex in action on a mix of close targets and see how well it works.
  22. Thanks for the good word, glad you like it. Paint job does look good and makes the original look a bit plain. I am busy making a batch and will post when they are ready. Here is a link to the post last year.
