  1. Would it make a difference if the nickel was actually buried rather than in an open piece of pvc?
  2. This happened to be on a river and we were well within the tide lines. There has been a housing boom and big mansions stuffed along the river to the point the entire river is loaded with docks. I can understand they don't want people in front of their houses but this is still public land and they cannot stop them. It is the same on the edge of my property the city owns the first 3 ft along the road way so if someone wants to park their butts there they can. Of course I have let the poison ivy grow along there :) What really frosts me is at the end of the river are huge mansions build on dunes. They are constantly being washed into the ocean when storms hit. These same people want the beaches to themselves. Block ALL Public access but want the Tax Payers to pay for their houses to be rebuilt. Can't have it both ways. I can understand they don't want the trash and can sympathize in that respect. On the other hand it isn't their property.
  3. Recently had a run in from an miserable @#$% when I was detecting along some shoreline as he has water front access and is blocking people from passing by. Normally I would have made a stink and told him to pound sand but the area he has is garbage. Anyways here is a good read on water access for the public for those interested. https://www.theinertia.com/environment/what-are-your-real-rights-to-access-of-beaches-and-public-waterways/
  4. I run my MK with the external battery pack and I like it better. I use the blackube rechargeable lipo aa's and get much better run time. I use the internal now only as back up.
  5. Surprised it wasn't palladium or platinum instead of gold.
  6. Very nice, blue diamonds are very rare. Great find!
  7. I forgot to mention you may also do better at higher frequencies rather than lower. I tend to fall back to 19khz at a very slight loss in depth compared to 14 or 5. Your Orx can go much higher. Typical rundown on my MK is I will not discriminate but keep my iron audio on very low so it isn't annoying. Not sure if the Orx has adjustable Iron Audio so if it doesn't then kicking up the discrim until you quiet it down will make the hunt less fatiguing. When hunting with my AT Pro that doesn't have adjustable iron audio I raise the discrim to kill the smaller iron trash like square nails as I mentioned. I found that low conductors can over power high conductors and drag their values down so playing off of that I try not to completely eliminate common iron that can typically mask out objects. Obviously if you have an iron axe head on top of a trime your just going to hear the axe head. Digging big iron in some areas can better help find the small stuff that is hidden. Digging every nail will drive you mad!
  8. Try to get your Orx to break on a medium iron nail, the old square ones. Set the discrimination so it just crackles. This should squelch out majority of the iron in the area and not discriminate out most of your good targets. When you hit a crackle next hit that target at a different angle. If there is a spark of something else then dig it. Lastly big iron and flat iron should still produce an iron audio from the tip or tail of your coil. Things like old bottle caps, oxen shoes, washers etc. If your not getting an iron audio off the edge of the target you may want to nudge the disc down a hair.
  9. They could use a slash through the 0 so it looks different than an o.
  10. You mentioned as the batteries discharge the threshold changes? Did you try rechargeable lipo aa's? Voltage on them stays constant until they are almost fully discharged. I've replaced all my batteries with rechargeable lipo's including 9v's.
  11. For the pi side of things the Seahunter MK II is nice. The stock 8" mono is pretty easy to swing in the water, machine is rated to 200ft. Hip mount is really nice on the shore but it's discrimination is fairly limited. It is pretty much dig all machine.
  12. It is possible to wire other compatible brands of coils in on the TDI. I'm not sure if the SH 8" mono will work or not. I have a Seahunter and the 8" mono is great in the water but lacks depth and coverage when hitting the beach itself. I use a 10x14 for combing. Trying to salvage a shell would be nearly impossible. The shells are vacuum formed out of thin abs at around 275°F. Epoxy has a higher melting point so the abs would be obliterated before the epoxy is out. I have made simple forms out of wood and used a heat gun to make simple parts. Something that size then make the outer shell form and inner shell form out of MDF (medium density fiber board). You could heat the abs up in an ordinary oven on a cookie sheet at that size.
  13. Good looking rings, couldn't talk them into the copper one?
  14. I have been using my Gen Mode (all metal) and 4 tone in some of the trashier areas and going for size than the id. I picked up quite a few nickels that way today in short run I did before the heat sent me home. Some the ID's where higher than normal and many lower in one direction because they were on edge. I did dig a fair amount of aluminum bits but I was going for any jewelry in the area. I found woods hunting is bit easier as it usually has much less trash so finding those odd signals and digging them isn't as big a deal as trudging through a trashy park where ever swing has a half dozen or more targets all clustered.
  15. Orientation and iron contamination seems to play a big part on id's here. I had a KG that I could here in one direction and other it just a crackle due to iron and being on edge. My last large cent had a strange number that some thought was a bottle cap and if it wasn't for that slight hint of iron I wouldn't have dug it. The small silvers like half dimes and trimes I think are really tricky as they are so small and thin orientation can play a major difference. Either of those deeper than 6" on a stock coil could be really really tricky and easy to walk past. So when you joining the Trime club?
  16. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a bit of electrical engineering behind you. Maybe we can pick your brains too. Nice avatar btw :)
  17. Welcome. Nice to see a dealer here with dealer plates. Some just lurke around in the shadows hehe.
  18. Welcome. You may want to check out the prospecting section of the forum.
  19. I started using the rechargeable lithium aa's on my Tejon as I was just burning through alkalines. I had a problem with one AA not taking a charge and BlackUbe replaced it right away so their support is fantastic. I found on the Tejon that with the lithium it runs at full power and far more stable and with the alklalines the performance would fade after a few hours.. I bet the F-Point would work good with those. Only downside with these types of batteries is you should keep tab on the time you put in on them as they run full power and will suddenly need to be recharged. On average they run about double the time alkalines do as a reference. Battery indicators may not accurately display life left. I have been using a set in my external battery pack for my Kruzer with good run time. The 9v's are fairly new so I haven't had to recharge it yet but guess they will be the similar to the aa's.
  20. Nice job picking that chain out. Pretty beefy, think that hits in around $600 or so in just gold weight right? There a lot of can slaw where your digging?
  21. Found it in one the school fields. Hit a 15'x150' strip. Tons of coins there lots of can slaw, nothing super old as the area was redone several times due to flooding. Scared to clean that one other than knocking some the dirt off.
