  1. Hi guys, in your opinion, what is the best vid on youtube for someone just starting out with the gpz? Maybe something that walks you through the start up settings and stuff.
  2. I've never been 300 feet from a stream, including right in front of forest service officer. not disputing what you said, but until someone with a uniform tells me different I'm 'banking. that seems like a flippant response, however it's not meant to be. I believe I am not breaking the law, and will continue to 'bank near the river. I respect your post though.
  3. not trying to derail this thread, but you can highbank in california. you just can't discharge directly into a water course. I usually set up far enough away to allow the sediment to drop out before the water makes it's way back to the river. if I'm too close to the water to do that, I use a mortar tub to allow the discharge to settle.
  4. you don't need to classify when you're stream panning, save that for cleaning cons. like klunker said, use technique to clear the pan. if you are out mding, all you need is a pan clipped to your pack. the more panning you do, the better you get.
  5. http://www.fire-etc.com/redback-easy-escape-slip-on-black-leather-boot-UBBK/?gclid=Cj0KEQjww7zHBRCToPSj_c_WjZIBEiQAj8il5NahkDusK-VR-AUIM5FrNT0AdFPFVI-xojgfGvzEjmAaArRM8P8HAQable. these are my everyday work boots, 9 hours on my feet and very comfortable. plus you can kneel down and not have laces to cut off the blood flow. I should add, they are available in the USA, and in wide sizes. and made by our friends in australia. (yay) (not china)
  6. I would suggest joining a local orienteering club. learning to use a compass and map will serve you well./
  7. thanks guys, wedding is in march. I belong to the gpaa and several other clubs. desert gold diggers looks like a good choice. I'll contact them.
  8. I'm going to be in tucson for a wedding, after that I'd like to do some detecting . any clubs nearby I could join and access some desert claims?
  9. or a chrome book.my 9 year old loves hers. easy to use. also less than 200 bucks on amazon.
  10. I think you guys should explain why you prefer those coils. not all of us know the difference.
  11. when steve herschbach moved down to nevada from alaska, the tractor trailer rig hauling his nugget collection overturned in the sierra mountains. wind and rain has spread them all over the place.
  12. well at rye patch, I started out in relic mode, with vco off and audiomod off. sat at 6. after an hour or so, and finding no trash! I switched to all metal. I don't really understand vco or audiomod, so I'm not using them untill I do.
