  1. Nice hunt with a few good saves, some of the areas around here that has clay below the topsoil is a good spot for the really old coins. Next time when it is dry try to hit it with the maximum depth that you can. Good luck on your next outing and stay warm out there. Merry Christmas.
  2. Great hunt and nice picture of the gold. However could you be a little more specific on where you found them, gps numbers would be nice and I promise not to tell anyone where to look. Good luck on your next hunt and stay safe out there.
  3. Thanks for sharing this information as I did like him on the show. May he find more large nuggets in heaven.
  4. Great find and I think it is much better than Gerry's find, as it is a find from a place that won't have tourist's all the time. Your wife will be very pleased to have it unless she is picky, in that case just send it to me and I will share it with my girlfriend. Good luck on your next outing.
  5. Great find and I would like to know if that also belonged to GB Amateur since you got his wallet.
  6. Well it's like pulling teeth on a chicken, he is afraid that if he reports it the State will tell him to turn it over to them. He sort of hates the government here in Illinois. I wanted to take photo's of it when I saw it but he told me not to at this time. People like him you really want him to share the information when they are comfortable to do so.
  7. Very nice hunt with some great finds. Good luck on your next outing and stay warm out there.
  8. Congrats on the win, and may the good luck help you to find more gold for you.
  9. I passed that information to the land owner and told him to report it, and to find out more about the meteorite check into the nearby college. I will ask him again to do a report on it.
  10. Sorry I will not be taking equipment with me to Norway, it will be to cold and I really don't want to have it slow me down. Should I get a chance to detect in one of those European countries I would be around there for a month, and I simply don't have that much time to spend there. Now when I go to Australia that might be another thing as I am hoping to have enough time to hit a couple of areas. Also I can't risk the snow bunnies as my girlfriend is going along.
  11. John, I have been watching this thread because of your work on the fines and the way you have been sluicing the rivers. I hope to someday to see you make a video of the equipment that you made to be able to sluice the way you do. Should you do that I would be very grateful for the knowledge as I am still young and want to learn as much as I can about this field. I know how to pan and some sluicing from my grandfather. I would like to know how to build the gear that you use and to be able to go out there and do what you have done. Thank you for bringing new light to this type of gold hunting and showing us what a person can get if they try. Caleb
  12. Nice setup that seems to be able to go all day with, but I have to have an extra pouch for the necessities. You know the smokes, the sunglasses, something to drink, and also a picnic basket for when I need a break. Just kidding about the basket. I will be getting out there again for a few days before taking off to Norway in January, then off to Australia. That will be for new gear for work so all expenses are paid by the company.
  13. Great hunting and taking the time to dig everything up. I like the amethyst ring, it looks to be a good quality stone. Good luck on your next hunt and stay safe out there.
  14. Yes I am back home in Illinois, about 50 miles south of Springfield. I will agree that the sound was strange. Well it did hit within a close distance to me, less than 3 miles to be exact. It went through a barn and landed in a field intact. I found out the farmer who owns the property that it landed on is going to keep it, and I have asked if I could see if there are any more pieces of it in the area. A local farmer found the rock when he went out to his wood barn and noticed a hole going through his roof. He later found another hole in the ground almost 2 foot deep and uncovered the meteorite. I looked at the rock and it had a hole in it about the size of a pencil all the way through it. It weighed around 11 pounds according to the farmer and it is some what smooth on one side. I am hoping to be able to get a picture of it so everyone can see it. Thanks for all the responses.
  15. I have a question about something that happened to me last night/early morning. It was around 3:30am when I went out for a smoke and heard a loud roar in the sky, as I turned to see what it was, there was a bright white light traveling from the North East towards the South West. The object looked to be about 500 to 600 feet in the sky on a downward slope. I have never heard anything like it before and would like to know if someone else here has ever heard something like this before. I could hear no impact and I could tell that the light was getting brighter the closer to the ground sa it passed over me. The whole time seeing this was no more than 3-4 seconds, but the sound I don't think I will ever forget. Any replies would be greatly appreciated to see if anyone else has ever had this happen to them. Thank you, Caleb
  16. Great hunt again in your books at those permissions. Stay dry and good luck on your next hunt.
  17. Great work on catching all the fine gold, and as you were showing us some new tricks I have been printing them out to keep them for future notes. Thank you for all that you have done with the fine gold and showing us younger people just how to make it add up. Good luck and stay safe out there.
  18. Very nice find and I'm sure it will be a very good year to come for you. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
  19. I told you to stop flapping your gums or this might happen.
  20. Looks to be a holographic item from the 1960's when they were given as a prize, the image reminds me of Lincoln and if so it could be part of the presidential collection. The presidential collection was found I a box of candy and was really hard to find more than 10 different ones in your area. They were collectable for a very short time. as they never had all the presidents in most of the areas. I hope that you find out exactly what it is, but if to much water starts to unravel the item I'm sure it is only foil coated on the main body and edges, with the hologram glued to it.
  21. So sorry for your loss, but just remember that he will wait at the Rainbow Bridge for you to see him again. Great hunting skills on the finds and glad you were able to save them. Good luck on your next outing and stay safe out there.
  22. Well I have caught one of these in a lake near me in Illinois. They only eat grass and moss, but they can scare you when you see their teeth. A lot of that type of work is nickel.
  23. Great finds and glad you were able to find it for yourself. Stay safe out there and good hunting.
  24. Simply amazing to see you clean up on the small gold the way you have. I have watched the ways that you are doing this process and have learned a few new things to try, and I thank you for the knowledge that I have gained.
