I live in South Carolina and all can sodas I have looked at have both imperial and metric on the cans. I was hoping the nugget came from here..but doing a search there doesn't appear to be a Arizona in South Carolina...dang it!!

From my understanding, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if several coins or historic items were found together it's considered a "hoard" then the rest of the coins/treasure if any at the site would excavated, researched, etc. and then be appraised and then museums would bid on them and the finder would get the money, if found on private land and the finder had permission the then the finder and land owner split the money, if no permission was granted then the landowner gets all the money, if found on public land the finder gets all the money. When only one coin or historic item is found it isn't considered a hoard and the finder can sell it themselves and to whomever they please for however much they can get for it.

It's definitely an old gyroscope toy, they were very popular from the 1950s and into the 1970s, that one is a earlier one and in the same time frame as the Tootsie Toy car.

If you're good at panning micro-fine gold some of it can be panned out, but there are other ways to capture the gold lost when cutting but it would require smelting the dust or using chemicals, mercury, etc., etc.

As long as you never had a update to 278 then you shouldn't have any issues updating from 268 to the 277 if you can get the update file.

Not being sure if you can go back to a earlier update if you have the newest update, I did some more searching and it seems you can go back...but I still can't find a file for the 277 update and how to go about installing and not have any problems....I found a topic on Treasurenet where others have done so but no one would post the 277 update file but one guy did PM another member with the file it seems, so maybe you can contact him to get the file. Here's a link to the topic, you will have to join if you're not already a member to post and ask him for the file, the member that seems to have access to the 277 file is "67GTA". https://www.treasurenet.com/threads/2-77-or-2-78.643562/ EDIT: It appears that 67GTA is also a member here, he posted back in August about him having issues with going back to the 277 from the 278 update, I didn't read all of the topic to see how he overcame the issues but get in touch with him and see if he can get you the 277 file.

Is there a reason you looking for the 277 update specifically, you can download the latest update...278 which according the their websites includes all previous updates? Yes I agree that they should make all updates available, I even searched for that specific update and got an "Error" as a result.

Kudos to you for a job well done, great detecting outside the box, if you hadn't looked where she said she hadn't gone that ring would of never been found!!

I do believe you're on to something and it just has to be connected to Oak Island, BUT I wouldn't put it in your "Top Pocket" it will just rip your pocket off your shirt!!

My opinion for what it's worth, let say you're out swinging your detector and you see a gold/silver coin/jewelry just laying on the ground....you found it while metal detecting..right, so as others have said you detected a metal necklace with your eyes so you indeed found it metal detecting, the detector you used was your eyes, case closed!!! Sorta a similar story, many years ago I went into a local bar on a Saturday around lunchtime to see if anyone was up for playing some pool/billiards no one was interested at the moment so I took a seat at the bar, placed my order and happen to look down and saw a ring on the floor, it was a very old art deco lady's gold diamond ring, I told the bartender I had found something on the floor, gave him my number and that if anyone came back that had lost something important to them have them give me a call... about 3 hours later a lady called me and said she had lost her great grandmother's ring that had been past down to her...she described it exactly....they were from out of town and just visiting relatives and leaving the next morning so we setup a meeting at a local restaurant they had planned on being at later that night, I returned the ring to her and her husband...they offered a reward but I refused but they wouldn't let me leave unless they could buy me dinner, we had a good meal and I wished them safe travels going home, I slept well that night with a full belly and a good feeling that she had her great grandmother's ring back!! Back then I didn't own a metal detector but I found that ring metal detecting with my eyes, so I can say I found it metal detecting and I don't care if it was cheating!!

That was my first thought as well, and no matter the cost......TESTED???? EEEEEEEWW!!!

I would bet they would find a lot more of what they're looking for if they would get that coil closer to the ground and slow down their swing speed, we all know you need to scrub the ground to get more depth and slow is the way to go when swinging the coil!! LOL

When you say western N.C. where do you mean, not exactly but where in general? Most of the gold in N.C. is in the central portion, the more eastward you go the gold dries up, and this is somewhat true to a point with going westward, also most of the gold is fine gold and not detectable, granted there have been detectable size nuggets found in N.C. but they are far and few between. I don't want to burst your bubble but just wanted you to be realistic in your hopes of finding detectable gold in N.C. I go mainly to N.C. when I get a chance to hunt for gold and I would rather use a dredge or a sluice than a metal detector, I do take my detectors with me but use them mostly for relics, coins, etc., but sometimes to find black sands deposits in known gold bearing streams.

Congratulations on the silver ring, but just as cool is now you have an excavator to help dig signals in the future!!!
