norseman
Hello I am digging a pond in SE Virginia, have found no rocks in the area, but hit something large and solid, pumped down the pond and found this rock laying on top of a deposit of dark gray clay. Trying to find out what is made of and if it has any value. Thank you
mn90403
What do you think it is?
Valens Legacy
The first picture shows some quartz and iron oxide, the other pictures if I could have had better shots would have shown the same thing. Quartz is common in your area and has little value except to someone that wants quartz. I would just set it by your back porch and keep it as a nice rock to look at. klunker
It's Priceless! So you'll have to put a price on it. I love finding weird, out of place rocks when I'm excavating and you've found yourself a dandy. It's value is in the dreaming.

Phillips_R
I think that right there is what they call a hum dinger... a very large paper weight. More seriously though it looks like primarily limestone with some quartz, some calcite , and some iron mixed in.
F350Platinum
If you're thinking meteorite, Um ... No. Rock that big coming in at 70,000mph would leave a crater big enough for a lake, you wouldn't have to dig a pond. Probably a glacier wash or a roller from a nearby hill. Take 'er down to Fort Leavenworth, they're gonna need big rocks to break into smaller ones. 🤔 Here's an article that may be interesting: http://www.virginiaplaces.org/geology/glaciers.html
