  1. Good call and strong possibility, Mitchel.. I had exactly that happen about 15 or + years ago except it was a "borrow", not an outright theft.. I needed to be out of town for a long two days, one overnight.. Asked my neighbor to keep half an eye on the place cos I was expecting a FedEx n for him to grab-n-stow if it showed so it wouldn't sit on the porch.. It never dawned on me that when I asked him I did so in the presence of his oldest kid, a cocky punk and known petty thief.. Normally it wouldn't have mattered that or what he overheard except $$s were tight for me at the time, so along with a couple other services I'd put my security monitoring on hold for a while -- which they knew about.. A few days later I go to hop on my scoot and notice the trip meter is showing 243 miles.. Perhaps to some riders that would mean nothing but I'm downright obsessive about resetting when fueling up; it's the very first thing I do upon rolling to a stop at the pump.. And even on the off-chance I had forgotten once there's still no way it could possibly read 243 miles because in order for me to make it that far I need to gas up twice; I for sure would have reset it then.. This brings me to a roaring stop.. I start looking around the garage -- and notice one of the garage door track wheels is sprung.. Friggin' paper mache garage doors..! Now not only do I know why the garage door has been opening a bit funky lately I also know exactly what happened.. Junior had taken a liking to my bike and once asked me if he could take it out for a spin.. I'd told him no.. Guess he didn't like that answer too much.. I never found out if he stupidly didn't reset the mileage or if he purposely left it that way as a message to me.. Knowing him I'd go with -- welll, no, could be either.. But I did find out for sure it was he who took it out, because I called his old man and had him n the kid come over so we could have a little chat.. At first it was deny, deny, deny, with his dad defending him too.. But the evidence to the contrary was overwhelming.. The dad never made the kid actually admit it to me, just sent him home to be "dealt with later.." Then the guy turns to me and wants to run the "no harm no foul" thing.. I told him I'd be good with that, just as soon as they straightened or replaced the bent garage door rail.. I'm still waiting, and have to deal with that one track wheel popping out n jamming things up every now & then.. The friendship..? What friendship..? They've long since moved anyhow.. And gas out of the vans hasn't been stolen since then either.. Anyhow, I think Mitchel's words are more odds-on than one may otherwise like to believe.. I'd say taking a harder look around your neighborhood and at local 'knowns' should not be ruled out.. Swamp
  2. Nice choice based on the specs I saw for it about a year ago, Fred.. Swamp
  3. Is the KTM replacing the little guy with fat tires or will you still have both to choose between..? Swamp
  4. Good move / smart move, Steve.. I totally understand the allure of FateBook from a general user POV, especially as they continue expanding toward their "one platform for all services" goal.. Thing is I also totally understand it from the operator's POV as well.. Which is why I never have nor never will seek admittance to their club: The cost of membership is too high.. The one possible exception could only happen should I ever find myself in a position where I'm able to benefit from them to a greater degree than they immediately and continuously thereafter automatically benefit from my / any-everyone's parsed personal information.. Given what you already have and continue striving for accomplishment-wise, it makes much more sense, to me at least, putting time into your site over theirs.. And yes, I'd definitely first put at least one slice through the specimen to take a peek.. Then you could shock and soak for the crystalline next if what you see doesn't look like it would cab nicely.. At an 1-to-2.6 weight ratio, excepting possibly the top RH knuckle I am having a hard time visualizing anything other than shot-through-with-gold slices though.. Swamp
  5. Nice.. Semi-coincidentally I happened to see this a few weeks ago on YT while checking out comparison / contrast vids for higher kHz VLFs -- GMT / Eureka Gold / GB2 etc -- when it showed up in the list to the right.. And good idea -- saving the nuggies for the next trip.. Skunk-B-Gone.. Swamp
  6. I think you'll need to get in touch with Minelab to find out.. Pretty sure consumer spec info doesn't state ohmage output at the headphone jack, but since the SDC 2300 ships with the KOSS 100 ohm 'phones one would think output would be the same or very close.. Skip's suggestion is spot on.. AussieMatt's posting of Minelab's POV is as well.. And I'm interested in finding out Condor's takeaway from his adapter test.. Question: Have you tried the alt lower tone setting yet..? That change alone may be enough to do the trick for you.. Swamp
  7. I can understand an upward ohmage tweak boosting return signal that slight amount our older ears need to now hear the deeper whispers we once could unaided.. I say go for it.. Swamp
  8. That's a really great photo of the pump and trough, Fred.. Most casual visitors don't even know it exists since it's alll the way down over the hill, nearly off park property and can't be seen from anywhere else in the park.. It's also located in the field's only remaining naturally shady area.. Swamp
  9. Chris -- Crater Of Diamonds is a lamproitic pipe.. I don't know the comparisons / contrasts with kimberlite.. Would this explain the unexpected stones you see..? Swamp
  10. Impurities and hidden air pockets more-than-offset the weight of Au, keeping it bouyant as it were.. Frankly I'm surprised most of it hasn't simply floated away.. Either that or Johnny Nuggieseed.. Swamp
  11. Glad you found your Aus trip notes.. Specifics of location's geologic makeup etc will definitely enhance your sharing of the adventure with us.. As you discovered on the trip, and thanks to the GoldHound's sharing of vid, I also have a new understanding & respect for ironstone.. Now totally understand and appreciate why they went / go to such extremes in order to work contact zones.. Swamp
  12. Merely noting the Infinium is no longer in production.. As of 3 mos ago Garrett was selling all pieces-parts less 35%.. Swamp
  13. Nice finds, ahem, all the way around, Mitchel.. Swamp
  14. Very cool following along with your thoughts outside the confines of magazine space constraints as Chris needed to deal with.. Swamp
  15. Exactly.. Not to mention it isn't as though we haven't already had more than a couple of the guys appear on these types of shows in the past as themselves and as a prominent member of "the team.." That's been the glue used adhering those adventures to reality: Teamwork.. This current proposal as vaguely presented seemingly leaves reality behind, entering the realm of fantasy & sci-fi.. Swamp
  16. LOL onna worrying.. What, me worry..? Nahhh.. I had the same thought re Oz, Fred -- and if that was the case I'd want in too.. But I don't think that's what they have in mind.. Of course this is merely my speculation, but I'm going with air drops in Alaska.. No vehicle, probably only an emergency GPS sat locator, whatever food / clothes / tools you can carry and unless you activate your emergency locator we'll see you where we dropped you in 30 days.. They might allow for the equivalent of what a pack animal could carry but not the pack animal itself.. It sounds to me like they want to do another whatever that reality show was called from a year or two back, "Alone" or something, of which I never watched one second, except this time you need to make a gold strike too.. It isn't going to be about driving through remote Australia and breaking out a detector, it's going to be about being able to stay alive in one of our last natural wildernesses.. I'm also going with their calling a gold strike river / stream finds.. Anyhow, I just don't have a good feeling about what these folks have in mind.. That isn't worry, it's caution.. And while I understand not giving out too much information in a casting call, the total lack of anything close to substantial throws red flags too.. Swamp
  17. Ah, ok thanks.. Without multi purpose mentioned there I failed to associate the other thread.. Have been hoping for positive news re XP DEUS V4 performance reports when they happen.. Swamp
  18. Isn't this what the Eureka Gold was supposed to be / do..? Based on your prior usage of the machine, mentioning you wouldn't mind having another again (if you could pick one up at the right price) and knowledge / relationship of/with Minelab, do you feel they could (should?) mfg an improved chip set to bring this machine up to its full potential, or are you more of the belief that potential isn't there to begin with due to compromises or whatever..? I ask because I purchased one years ago on the same premice and feel let down by the low frequency especially.. Beyond that though, it's a great machine.. Swamp
