  1. The great thing is that the good folks at NM listen and have been generous in coil production and there's some nice after market coils as well. Knowing NM they probably didn't lock down their SMF coils...hopefully.
  2. I'd like to try one of these one day. I've almost bought one a few times when they've come up for sale, but so far, nadda.
  3. Congrats on your first Barber, Seateds are next!!
  4. Nice hunt, that big tombac makes me think there could be a GW button there!
  5. Interestingly when the XP first started to trickle into the states, it was a curiosity. Didn't seem like it went more mainstream over here until they had some dealership and warranty repair logistics ironed out years later. I like the low weight, but since I replaced my F75 with my Nok/Mak machines, I don't need another iron hunter and actually the Equinox is a fine iron hunter when set up right using the right coil. Anyhow that said, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the XP. We have some detecting friends that mainly hunt highly mineralized gold country dirt and the hard core hunters switched from Etrac/CTX/EQX to the XP to noodle around in the iron. Now if you can take the best of the EQX and the XP and combine them into a better physical package with better ergo, battery life, better water proofing PLUS some new features or performance enhancements would be required to charge double what I paid for my EQX800 when it was brand new and attract my attention. Let's see, it's certainly an interesting development!!
  6. This is going to be interesting! I'm really happy with my current setup, so I'll be on the sidelines, popcorn in hand, watching how the Deus2 and the NM SMF shake out and how they compare to the EQX800. Give the hype some time to die down and see which platform's bring home the goods!
  7. Longer, it actually got leaked out that they were looking at SMF in the Racer days ?
  8. Better yet!! I like the no headphone option. Vendor can offer optional headsets perhaps included in a "Pro Pack" with wireless headset and an extra coil or wireless pin-pointer, good opportunity for a 3rd party to build a high quality series of BT LL headphones geared towards the detectorists, or the ultimate enthusiasts quest for the best bang for the buck value headset. The more mainstream options, the better!
  9. That's awesome! I've only ever dug two busts, a half dollar and a dime from different sites. You're much more likely to dig Spanish reales out west than busts ?
  10. I can't imagine it's a big seller as an individually priced accessory, but they can easily say it's a popular product by making us pay for it when we purchase the EQX800! Their marketing folks may think it's selling like hot cakes, because of how many units are moved per quarter due to EQX800 sales. Anyhow, I hope they drop this silly sales practice in the future.
  11. I'm not getting rid of my original EQX800, it works too well, I don't want to temp fate ?
  12. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but personally I do not think future iterations of the Equinox should [as the Equinox 800 did] "force" you to purchase the Minelab WM08 High Speed Wireless Module. I for one have never used it, it's been sitting in the box collecting dust for three years. Yes I could sell it, but why did I have to purchase it to begin with? Although I personally find the ML80 headphones to be adequate (and I understand headphones are a very subjective personalized experience), perhaps instead of being forced to purchase the Minelab WM08 High Speed Wireless Module (or whatever iteration of it exists when the next gen Equinox is released) I'd rather see that investment go towards better headphones, a better rod setup, or an extra coil, whatever, but the WM08 High Speed Wireless Module should've been an optional accessory from the get go.
  13. The guy doesn't sound like he was the sharpest tool in the shed! Just out of curiosity though, if he was posting his finds on social media, anyone know what he actually found? As previously surmised, I'd assume just modern tourist junk, but who'd post that on social media. Odd.
  14. Steve I've said it for years, far before White's and Tesorro faded away, that the U.S. detector industry seems to have appropriated the playbook from the U.S. automotive industry in the 1970's -1980's and beyond. We all know how well that worked out for them while the Japanese, and even Korean's slowly took note and started taking market share to the point where two of the big three were on the brink of self destruction had the government not bailed them out (so much for capitalism). Although they are still in business, I view FTP as the largest fiasco to date for all the reasons you've noted, not to mention they just invested a massive amount of funds into a new production facility, and for what? To continue building low end detectors? That's a race to the bottom, and for a manufacturer that's not a profitable business model. Works great for Walmart and Costco, but the vendors will fail if that's their playbook. I was a FTP fanboy for years, but finally saw the light after having a great amount of success with their contenders products.
  15. Congrats on the bust liberty half dime, you don't see many of those being dug!!
  16. I got hooked on wireless headphones when I first acquired them on my Makro Racer, from then on I never wanted to go back to wired/tethered headphones. I was really pleased when the Equinox 800 was announced as coming with the ML80 wireless headphones, which I personally think work great. My only criticism is that the physical construct of the ML80 headphones is cheaply made. I've had to use black electrical tape to secure the ends of the headband (for lack of a better term) where the plastic intakes the metal band as both of the plastic keepers where the metal band inserts have cracked/broken. Aside from that, for me the audio is great and they work fine. I have had a couple of instances whereas the headphone bluetooth didn't want to pair up with the Equinox, but that hasn't happened for a few years.
  17. Over the past 21 years I've worked with slews of Indian people, and when they get together they are typically speaking their native tongue, which really depends upon which part of India they're from. Due to their former British rule they are taught English in school, so yeah I'm surprised he'd make the YouTube video in his native language versus English as it would certainly reach a lot more people.
  18. Nice job, always great when you can eek out a find that's been masked and walked over by other detectors, but you got enough intel from target to investigate it.
