  1. I would have liked to see that other detector go over the same area, or reset the GPZ and try again.
  2. I dont think the F75 is too much machine for anyone who can understand its operating instuctions and functions. With that said, I am with deathray on this one. I would prefer the GB Pro or the F19.
  3. I would be willing to bet that up in the gold country almost any flat areas contained tent cities. They are all worth checking out, the worst thing that could happen is you find what I found today, NOTHING. That area was packed with people during the rush, look around and think, Where would I pitch a tent to work the area. Chances are someone was there.
  4. Scott has a nice deal on a 5000, you can also look at a Garrett ATX. Cheaper than a 2300, and in my opinion it offers more flexability with different coils. Not as good as a 5000 but may be alittle more in your budget.
  5. Especially in gold country, the middle of nowhere now, may have been pretty populated during the rush.
  6. While this is true for living in the city, I know alot of people that have had items stolen in the field. Just because someone is out prospecting, does not make them honest. I run a gun store also, and you would be amazed at the amount of people that have their vehicles and or campsite robbed while they are out. I hear it from prospectors also. Do not let your guard down out there. Its very easy for someone to sit by and watch you walk away from your items, knowing you will be gone awhile. It happens everyday. And now with the high cost of some of our detectors, alot of people may or may not know the difference between a gold bug and a GPX or GPZ. To them its just a quick buck. Lets just say people do bad things for items worth alot less. Be Careful out there, unless you personally know them very well, be wary of everybody.
  7. I dont think I would have been swinging my pick like they were that close to the target, but a great find.
  8. I no longer use coil covers, I apply a good thick coating of flexx seal spray on rubberized coating. Wally world sells it in white, clear or black. As it wears just reapply on the wear spots. Waterproofs and protects the coil.
  9. With all the speculated new detectors this year, we are going to be busy trying to learn alot of new tech. Should be a interesting year.
  10. No one knows exactly what went on thousands or millions of years ago, its all theory based on what each person believes and see's in their findings. I love hearing about them all, and come to my own conclusions of what may have transpired years ago. Its all very interesting to me.
  11. I cant make it this year, if it was closer I would be going.
  12. They cover alot of topics there, anyone attending signs a confidentionallity agreement so you wont hear anything they do no want you to hear. Im sure they will be covering the 7000 pretty heavy.
  13. If I was only going to buy one detector, and that was between the ATX or SDC. I would probably go with the ATX. Just for the added versatility of different coils. Both will work great, but I just feel the ATX with the optional 8 and 20 inch monos will give you more options with owning just one detector. Not to mention you can probably get the ATX Deepseeker that comes with the 12 and 20" coils and buy the 8" and still come in under the SDC price.
  14. I love the Eureka, yes it takes alittle more to master it, but it offers alot of performance in return. I use mine with the 8 and 11 inch round coils. Alot of people dont want to take the time it takes to learn these machines, and thats a shame because they are missing out on a very good performing detector. It is one of the better VLF machines in hot ground.
  15. I like the Nugget Buster or Grey Ghost headphones, they work great and don't break the bank. The Lesche is a great tool for parks and schools. Just learn how to properly dig out a plug, and take a small towel or something to set it all on so you can put it all back in the hole.
  16. I prefer using the 18 inch NF coils, gives plenty of depth and coverage, but not as cumbersome to use as the larger coils. I used a 25" round mono once, that was all it took to convince me that I did not like that large coil.
  17. Great stories, I know there are hidden hordes all over. So many of the old timers either did not trust banks, or were too far from them, so they could not get to them easily. It just takes some persistence, and knowledge of the areas you hunt. I feel there are buried stash's all over the mother lode area from the 49ers who would bury their finds for safe keeping. While detecting in areas that were hit hard by the old timers you should always check the surrounding areas where they may have wondered up into the tree line to hide their finds. Its out there, you just need to get your detectors over it.
  18. If you plan on using a mono as your primary coil, then yes get one now. There will be a learning curve with both coils, but I would want to start learning with the primary coil as soon as you can.
  19. It should be interesting for the next year or so. I know Tesoro has not been up to much for awhile, and it is disappointing. But they do have alot of faithful followers. I will say I receive a pretty even split of calls for them.
