Target ID accuracy for me really depends where I am digging. If I am relic hunting or in the woods all I need is the 2 tone mode (ferous+vco) and an approximate # to give me an idea what it might be. I base my depth needs to the clay line. This can vary from just a few inches to 16-20" in old meadows. Average depth for majority of the places I hit are under 12" and more often in the 6-10 range so all of my detectors handle that well. I have learned that with all the iron in my parts that larger coils can be counter productive. I have only found 2 silver dimes at the 14" mark in some swampy edge of fields with a 17x15 coil. Larger coils don't necessarily gain much more depth here in many areas due to the iron as they tend to get smothered and masking becomes more of an issue. The weight of larger coils can really take the fun out of hunt as the day wears on. For the salt, I prefer my pi for the simplicity and lack of chatter. I may try my MK out there later this season when things cool down and crowds subside but not sure how well it handles the black sand patches and hot rocks we got. I actually like my pi with the 8" coil in freshwater because it swings so easy though it doesn't see small ear rings.

Much harder to trace problems with the multi layer pcb's. Todays electronics are pretty much throw aways. Though much cheaper to make through automation and more compact the real problem lies with long term durability. Very difficult or cost prohibitive to test and problem solve versions in the field.

Worst case scenario someone would tag you with a transmitter, could be bad as it would reveal your hunting patterns 🙂

Quick update on my quickie design, materials be just under $300 and weight around 133 oz. Too much $$ and weight so scratch that one.

Maybe a fake shark dorsal fin on your back might keep them at bay?

Cold solder joint or failing component on the board could do that. Unless they happen to have very similar conditions ie temperature, emi etc the problem might be difficult to replicate especially if it is marginal. I had an issue with my AT Pro after I cracked a coil where it would be knock sensitive even with different coils yet it worked ok at the service dept. What made things trickier is my new replacement coil had a bad wire probably from shipping making for more trouble shooting issues. They replaced the pcb, put a shiney new cover and tossed in a new coil and all is good to go. Luckily it was all just before the virus. Glad your up and running.

Supposedly you can order direct but got a feeling customs will be an issue. Also warranty/service if needed. Sounds like v6 would work well around here where old properties had dumped their coal ash. We do have tons of iron in many places here. Thanks

Makes sense, not sure if it was a payroll box but the tips look like they would fit a cups like the one you show but it is the same on both ends so double cup instead of cup on one side and loop on the other as you show? Interesting on the buckle, found a few out there just like it. Might have one that is complete in my scrap pails.

How much of a difference is there between v5 and v6? I have seen v5's on ebay but never a v6.

My wrist can't take the straight handles either especially when coin shooting as you can easily dig 50-100 holes in an outing.

I'm not sure if it will dig in too much. would have to make some sort of prototype and angle the handle and lead edge so you can control it. My thoughts was something that can snag the smaller stuff as well. My limited beach hunting right now I use a scoop, kind of thinking a hybrid scoop/rake that is half that width at least. Probably add some horizontal wires on lower portion to act a a scoop. 2 biggest factors for this is cost of material and weight.

It is the same on both sides, door knockers have a post on bottom one side so people don't knock the finger tips. Almost seems like some handle of sorts.

Diggers are a preference, some are happy with the bayonet style blad and straight handles and many don't even use hand diggers or rarely use them enough that they work fine. Few years back I made one for myself with the rotated handle downward. Also liked a mini spaid point so they actually can scoop dirt. One I do sell is primarily for turf and designed to make a quick plug or flap. I ended up using chrome moly steel for the final product for it's strength to weight ratio. Weighs in under 11 1/2 oz and is corrosion resistant.

Went digging a bit in the woods where I had found many 1800's coins and came across this brass loop of some sorts. Looks like a carry handle of some sorts or is it from a saddle? Also in the middle is what looks like part of a buckle, also brass and was in the same vacinity.

Cooped up here because it is just too hot to dig so I whipped up this idea on a rake, might make a narrower version to replace my sand scoop and space the tines 1/4" apart instead of the 1/2" apart as shown on the full size one. Need to look up material weight and I can figure out what the unit will actually weigh. If I get the angle of the handle right then it should be fairly easy to drag. This is 2' wide with 48" handle. Just a rough idea so far. Last bit, I have no idea what the material costs are for 304 atm and what this might be.

Try the rechargeable lithium 9v's from Blackube. Mine runs like a champ with those. If I use an alkaline battery it runs good for a couple of hours then acts up. Seems this pp really needs top power or it becomes unstable. I paid around $25 for a pair of them off amazon. I keep one fully charged in a ziploc bag in my pouch as a backup. Might sound like a lot of money for batteries but consider a single alkaline 9v is around $5, the Blackubes last almost 2x longer and can be cycled around 500x. They recharge off a usb cord so you could recharge them in the field with a power pack or in your car.

They are much warmer than my old thin work gloves. Just got them in and will give them a good workout. The fabric seems breathable. Been using fingerless gloves at the beach in the winters but the 20 F weather and wind makes the finger tips sting lol. these should be far better. I'm just impressed with the quality overall.

I would think you will need to move those tines closer or add more. Gives me an idea that if you combined the other one you have a basket on, replace the basket with tines that face toward the user and have that scoop front with the basket one so it can cut through the sand easier and sort of act like a shovel to push the sand over the tines it would do a better job.

So that is basically for chains then?

High sensitivity and no disc over a mixed target with iron next to it can give jumpy numbers. If the sensitivity is too high for the conditions you may suffer slower recovery speed over mixed targets and the machine may skip. One of the things I look for is mixed targets like that. If I get an iron hit and it has numbers that spike beyond where iron normally hits and if that spike goes away when I hit the target at a different angle it tells me that there is iron masking something else so I dig it. This has gained me a KG and 2 of my large cents this year as well as some long lost clad. If your machine is chattering too much because of ground conditions increase the discrim a bit. Here in the NE with my MK I can get away with 3-4. Not too familiar with the Simplex but feel it maybe similar. Lastly be consistent with your swings. I try to use a constant speed 1-2 ft per sec works well and the machine runs very stable and I have stable consistent numbers. Sounds boring but can save you some time digging junk.
