  1. Gary, I was going to say the exact same thing, where I live our shutoff valves are as this person has described. The water plant person has placed 3 can bottoms surrounding the valve to make it more easy to locate. The cans were cut in half, then buried about 3 inches under the grass.
  2. Would that be Ms. Penny or Master Penny? The last school I had dug at had not been used for over 50 years, and it has so much iron pieces in it that I could not find more than 75 cents. I could not find a single penny at that school and have to go back come spring.
  3. I forgot to mention that there are maps that will show you where the gold and silver has been found in MO. I have found more silver than gold south of Potosi and Farmington. Northern MO. has some very good creeks/rivers for panning for gold. That would be N.W. of Hannible and west of Quincy if you know where I am talking about.
  4. What part of MO. did you find the rock, as I have found similar looking ones around the Potosi area. They contained Pyrite and not gold, however I have panned a little gold from 1 of the creeks there in the past.
  5. Once again you have come up with some nice finds. I hope that your luck continues with more gold and silver round little things that you can put on your fingers. I didn't want to jinx you by saying the other word. Glad to see you are ringing in the new year on a positive note.
  6. Found some that looked just like that here in Illinois near small creeks, yes it is flint.
  7. I believe that is for a woman's shawl, it would be missing the pin that goes through the material. I have seen similar pieces before, it should date around the late 1800's to early 1930's. Most were made out of silver or silver plating. Very nice find.
  8. Great finds, wish you more luck in the area where you are at. Hope to see you get to the beach soon.
  9. Great hunt even if you were following someone else. Keep up the good work and keep us informed.
  10. Nice little hunt Dan! I guess you really have to dig a lot of trash to get to the good stuff! I plan to hit up my yard again on Sunday, as I know that there is a lot of trash in it. It used to be a church for about 100 years. So I am really interested in finding more items from the 1800's. Should I find a ring or 2 so be it, but the trash is going else where.
  11. I have found out that an equal part of washing soda and baking soda mixed with distilled water will clean copper pennies very well. I have a few that I am going to be cleaning soon so that I can get them framed and hung on the wall.
  12. Yes I did, I just thought of it as I was wanting to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I was hoping to give someone a little bit of encouragement while they go hunting. On this forum some use a detector, some use a pan, and others use a sluice. I was trying to cover all the bases.
  13. Simon, Some of the capacitors will not show any sign damage and still be bad. I finished replacing all the capacitors on a mother board of a 42 inch flat screen and none of the caps looked bad at all. They will lose value first and then they will go bad on these newer TV sets, so that is why I have replaced all of the capacitors. My rule of thumb is after say 10 - 15 years in a piece of equipment replace the capacitors and then see if there are any more problems. That will usually fix the problems for about $10 - $20 and it will save a lot of time and heartache down the road. What I saw in the photo it would only be about a $5.00 cost in parts on EBay or even Amazon, but I do suggest only use a good brand of capacitors for the long haul.
  14. Where I am located there are no clubs within 50 miles, however I know that Whites are mostly used around here because there are a couple of dealers in the area. When I go on a group hunt I am taking my 800 with me, but most of the time we use a system that we have made. It is for relic hunting only and we have to use a laptop to see what is in the ground. We have a depth of over 5 feet with this setup and can find the shape of what is down there before we dig. I used to work on loop systems for parking garages and fast food systems for over 20 years and had this idea brought to life. The software was made from a friend who works for John Deere in the programming dept. I will explain it more to you Steve in a message if you are interested.
  15. Blessed are the swingers for they walk in the shadows of the past. Blessed are the hunts filled with tones of joy. Happy are the panners who strain their eyes for that glitter of gold. Happy are those who never find tabs or slaw. May your New Year bring you tones of joy, glitters of gold, and finds from the past. May your New Year never show you pull tabs and can slaw again. Happy New Year to all and have a great 2020.
  16. However it could just be a different breed of a donkey, but I think you are right because something smells about it.
  17. Well I have only had my Equinox since about June and my first nice find is my favorite, I still need to get it cleaned and framed. Then my second favorite is from my back yard, yes it is another Indian Head penny but al little older. My last find was with a few friends in another state and these are mine, there are 2 1862 and 2 1863 $1.00 gold coins. I am still trying to write something for the forum about the trip, but don't know where to start. I hope that I can learn more about my 800 so that I can get a lot better at this. All of these items are going to be mounted behind glass and placed on the wall. Have a great and Happy New Year!
  18. Great find Peg! Grab a picture frame and put it behind glass and hang that beauty on the wall. I am glad that it was not a battery like I had found. Keep up the good work.
  19. When you have it tested as to what type of metal it is, check to see if it is titanium. Should it be it could have came from a satellite, as they use something similar on some of those. If it is titanium form space it will have had a small hollow core with a steel housing around it. That is the only thing that I can think of.
  20. Skate, Thanks for sharing the link and I will order one of them to try out. Please let me know when you come across something that will keep my ears from ringing when I get home. My wife yells at me for hunting every chance I get and I think it is causing ear problems.
  21. I am glad you asked that question. My granddaughter told me that when she is at least 5 years old she can decide which sex she wants to be. I always believed that you were the the same sex since you were born even with surgery. They also teach some history and math, but little else that is useful in life.
  22. Really nice finds, when are you going to take me with you?
  23. Peg, Very nice piece of gold that you have found, keep up the nice work! I have loved seeing all that gold from Idaho and hope to make it there sometime.
  24. Yes the $2 bill is still made, I got a couple just the other day and took them to Hardees. They confused the cashier so bad she thought they were counterfeit, and called the police. They explained to the girl that they are real and that she should give me my order. Great finds on all that gold, some day I will be finding some of that.
  25. That is a beautiful ring that you found, and I wish you more luck in the future. Thanks for sharing.
