  1. That reminds me to get my dogs heart worm pills, I would hate to see something like that come out of him. The poor guy would die from just 1 of those!
  2. I will be checking into these after the holidays should I have enough left over. To many grand kids who happen to be teenagers.
  3. My grand kids would have taken you to the emergency room just to make sure that you don't have a concussion or something major wrong with you. Glad to hear that there are some younger people who don't need Facebook.
  4. I found out that my home has been 2 or 3 churches, Masonic Lodge and back to a church again. I have since turned it into a home but still have the corner stone in the front corner of the place. I have dug up most of the same things that you have and by the sidewalks found silver from the early 1900's and even a 1889 IH within inches of the sidewalk. All over the yard has been burn piles, and next to them I have found coins. I have found a gold charm bracelet, and more coins near the old trees. I have yet tried the parking lots as they are gravel and I know what kind of mess they will leave for my wife to yell about. Keep checking all signals that you get because you will find a wide range of things mixed in with the trash.
  5. Now stop calling me old, I hear enough of that from my grand children. I have been married a couple of times and my wife's granddaughter said that she was older than dirt for her birthday. I never seen a child cry so much because someone took away her cake.
  6. I noticed at the 4:03 mark you were holding a trunk lock plate, now find the rest of the trunk. Very nice dime and button. Great job on the finds.
  7. Thank you Steve and I was not trying to upset anyone, as for not being on Facebook I know it is my choice alone. Maybe in the future there will be something else that comes up better than FB and I might try it if the security is good. Thanks Tim (Valen)
  8. Nice find I wish the weather was better here so I could get out and hunt.
  9. Steve, Sorry but I won't use Facebook for anything, because I really don't want my life out there on the web. At almost 63 years of age I have found that if I want to talk to someone that I know I will simply call them or go to their house. On this forum I have found some new friends that I hope to meet someday, because I have found that they are good and honest people. Good luck with your giveaway and in the future remember us folks that don't do Facebook.
  10. Nice find, I will have to check out some of those types of areas.
  11. Since 4130 is heat treated how do you retreat the metal again? I ask this because once the heat treatment is removed by welding the metal it should be hardened again for strength. I would like to get one of those and am asking to find out if it is going to hold up.
  12. Steve, You are so right with that statement. I have hunted in a park just 7 miles down the road and have had great luck with factory settings. I then go to my back yard and have to adjust the 800 on several settings just to find pennies. I then go 3 blocks away and it too is a different setting all together. I have read more in the forum just to understand the 800 and have learned a lot from the topics here. When I get another chance I will be back out there swinging my 800 because it is mad at me right now. It thinks we have to go even if it rains or is freezing. Good luck with your new 800 and take your time to learn what it will do. Practice in your own back yard if it means cleaning out all the trash, because you will know your unit a lot better.
  13. Simon, After looking at everything I do believe that you are correct.
  14. I can answer that one with none, but my brother did have a case of them after a one night stand. Sorry I couldn't help you out, but I had to say it.
  15. Joe D. I am just learning this unit and have a long way to go before I can have enough confidence to say that I know it. I have found several nice things so far and know that I would have missed them without it. I will have to get that book and start reading it. Thanks
  16. Simon. Thanks for the advice, and I only have the stock coil that came with it. I might get another coil in the spring and work with it. I am still trying to figure out if something is wrong with my unit as it has done several things that is unusual. Like I have said I am learning from all of you here on this forum and I try to put that knowledge to use. I do get confused sometimes wit all that I need to do , but that is expected with only 3-4 months of use. Thanks for the advice and I will keep it in mind.
  17. Since I only have 2 detectors my 800 and a old Bounty Hunter, I can only say I wish I had known about this forum before I got my 800. Not that I don't like the 800 of which I do, but to have helped me learn more on what to have purchased in the first place. I have learned so much here and every time I am out I learn even more. Once I learn how to use this properly and know what I am hearing I will be looking for an other unit. I try to learn something everything and the hardest thing for me is that I constantly have ringing in the ears which throws me off a lot. Thank you Steve for all your insight on all detector units that you talk about. I also thank everyone else for their knowledge on this subject also as I am a beginner at this.
  18. Great find there, how bad was the backside of it.
  19. You may also want to pay attention to where old sidewalks used to be, as I have found a lot of things near them between the bricks.
  20. Mark, Really good job on finding those small items without your glasses. I wear glasses only to see, and I have to use them when I am out detecting. I don't wear them when I drive just to see if the other drivers are paying attention to other people. When I want to see what I am doing I have to wear them!
  21. A while back I was looking in my own back yard and along side the sidewalk I found a 1889 IH. Then I did some research and found out just what has been on my property, and I like it. Come a few days with 45 degree weather or above I will be back out there looking for more. We are in the 20's right now and my 800 is begging me to take it out in the sun. You have received some very good information from these guys and the only thing I would add is remember it.
  22. Thank you very much for the insights that you have on detectors, I only hope that some day I will learn mine to be able to spot what I am looking for. With cold weather now I know that it will be a while before I can get to use it again unless it warms up.
  23. Congrats on your new purchase and I hope you have fun with it. I am also with snow here and it is cold too. I am on the other side of Saint Louis and just north of it in Illinois. Maybe we could get together sometime and have a hunt. I might be able to learn from you about my 800 and get better at what to look for. My brother lives in Springfield Mo. and I used to live Osage Beach many years ago, so I know a little about the Ozarks.
  24. Chase, Very nice finds,I wanted to get out over the weekend, but I am married and the wife had a list of things for me to do that was a mile long. I am just at the half mile mark on them so it might be another week for me to get out. Snow today and very cold the rest of the week, but I will get out there on Saturday. Well maybe Sunday. With that said Congrats on the find.
  25. I finally broke down and got serious about updating my 800, and like most people that has had problems when using Windows 7 I looked for a fix. After a short time of confusion about what was going on and not really finding any answers, I turned to YouTube and found the solution. Simply put the problem is not the program but the compatibility to Win 7. So all one has to do is the following: Before running the program, Highlight and right click on the program and scroll down to troubleshoot compatibility. Click on troubleshoot compatibility and click on Try recommended settings, click next, and then start program. That is all you need to do to get it to work. I hope that this helps someone else out there.
