  1. EDITOR'S NOTE: This thread split off from a prior subject on coin detecting here. I asked someone very knowledgeable about soils and how objects move in and on them! About the "sinking of coins" subject several years ago! And got a very detailed answer! In a nutshell, coins and other object don't actually "sink" in normal soils: * They can be compressed deeper by natural, or man made forces! (Examples: Foot and/or vehicle traffic; Animal traffic!) * Soils and organic materials build up over time! Or are added by humans, or short term natural events! (Examples: Mowing; Plowing; Natural decomposition of organic plant and animal matter; Wind blown soils; Flooding; Land slides; Etc...) * Ground conditions can very greatly and affect the depth the coins were originally dropped! (Example: An uneven or rocky area that may have been a gathering area before being filled and leveled for a playing field!) * Seismic activity, and/ or liquefaction of soils buy various natural and manmade events! And there can be multiple, and combined events over a short, or long period of time! This is by no means comprehensive, and i did not even cover beach conditions and the effects of waves, tides, and currents on coins and other objects, and their shape and weight factors!🀯🀯 And this was the Short answer!🀣
  2. I run them through the coinstar machine! I love the crunchy sound they make! 🀣 And buy scratchoffs next to machine with the one's that dont get rejected! Last time got $100 scratchoff!πŸ‘

  4. Welcome to the forum mav52, Hope you find what your looking for here! Depending on your experience level, you may want to consider a less expensive detector than the Equinox! There are several new cheaper and easier detectors now on the market with better coil options! Just elaborate on your experience level, and Steve and the others will set you on the right track! Good luck, and good hunting! πŸ‘πŸ’°
  5. Nice tool finds again GoldpickπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘
  6. Hello Pyroslinger, and welcome to the forum!! You've got some great miners and detectorists chiming in here! Heed their advice!! Sorta like online yoda's! You got a great thread going for a "newbie," or experienced hunter! Your intro was informative, and i look forward to the 120 day adventure! keep us posted! And by all means, heed the safety advice as well! You may want to ask your friend if anyone in the group has First Aid Training! If so, make sure they are for real! And that the correct first aid supplies are carried by you, and/or them, for that area! 30 years in Public Safety taught me much about how "prepared"πŸ‘Ž, and "qualified"πŸ‘Ž, people really are!! Be Safe, and Good Huntingβ›πŸ‘
  7. Sorry Monte, I'm as guilty as anyone for getting off topic! I think you gave very valid points on the simplex! I have no regrets for buying the 800, but had the simplex been available, i would have gotten it first! I will be a little more subdued in purchasing another detector for awhile! I also think i still have a ton to learn on the ones i have! But i will definitely keep an eye on Nokta/ Makro in the meantime! πŸ‘ And hopefully they will shorten their name!πŸ˜‚
  8. Chase, I am also new enough with the 800 to always second guess my target identity! But that is how i dug a 1911 gold pocket watch a few months ago! I really don't mind digging most everything! I feel it's the only way to learn a detectors language! Even then, i refuse to miss anything! Except maybe those damn zincons!! Thanks for the lessons, there much appreciated!πŸ‘
  9. In Saint Lucie County on the Treasure Coast, your allowed to detect in the parks! You just can't dig anything up! I was told this by the Parks Department Supervisor several years ago! First i asked if he was kidding! NO! I then asked the same thing about kids, pets, etc... he would not relent!🀣🀣πŸ˜₯
  10. Isn't it about a $2000 unit? I wonder if the Equinox isn't a cheaper and more tested alternative? Or is it a PI?
  11. Hello Ed, Maybe there is a detecting club, or another detectorist or two near you that can help you out! You may be able to locate some with some help on this forum!! Good luck in the rapid recovery!πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ
  12. I've dug none, but have shued away a few while swinging the coil! But if you know that they are storing hoard's of coins and jewelry in their holes, please tell us! I will dig them all up!!πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
  13. Wow, your really going into detail for the motor HP and stuff! Im sure you will succeed with that attention to detail, and creat something that is unique and in demand$$$ Porting and polishing anything, be it a motor, or a pump and fittings is always going to increase preformance! And possibly reduce weight! But the cost and effort involved my not give you a sufficient return! And I'm sure the wear and tear on the equipment is far greater than normal due to the abrasive nature of dredging! But on the positive side (maybe), as far as abrasives in water are concerned! They will eventually wear and polish anything they are pumped through! Good luckπŸ’° And keep us posted here!
  14. Here's one of my finds with the ATPro from last years outing after cleaning! And my first gold find with the 800 before cleaning!πŸ‘
  15. Steve, I'm sure your answer would fit the skillset⛏ much better than mine!!! My skillset is not much use since i retired!πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ Hence, why I'm here, trying to pick up where i left off years ago and learn from you all!! πŸ‘πŸ‘
  16. Hello PG, I don't know anything about your equipment or gold mining and sluicing in general! But i am pretty familiar with water hydraulic's! I will spare you the long winded explanation, and direct your search for answers to the internet! Search Suction and Discharge tables based on type of hoses, length, pressure etc... There are tons of sites where you can plug in your numbers and find the information you seek for just about any configuration you can dream up! I've attached a few screenshot examples! Good luck, and keep on innovating! Also, other than motor horsepower, and intake hose diameter and length! The type and size of intake fitting's can also limit the amount of water you are able to get to your pump, which may limit its full capacity!πŸ‘
  17. 2Valen, I'm right there with you buddy! I'm still more comfortable with my AT Pro, than my 800! At least for land sites! On the beach, I'm only using the 800 now, but still have much to learn! I just started reading the Andy Sabisch book to get a leg up on the 800! Hopefully that will translate to some new skills! Good luck with yours!
  18. Kac, I'm going hunting, and detecting in Georgia next month, and was thinking about that myself! I always have all my orange on, even while I'm hunting on family property! You never know what can happen with "buck fever", and trespassers!! Everything that moves in the woods is a potential target for some! The "shoot first, find the orange detectorist later is a real worry!!🀯🦌
  19. Wow, I "dig" that comedy "gold"! Do i "detect" a hint of sarcasm? When does the show go "afield"? I hope it goes "stirling" for you! Because comedy is no day at the "beach"! To "coin" a phrase! πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ You had me at BastardXWave! When i tried to click on it for more information! Very clever!!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘
  20. 2Valen, Boca's looking pretty good about now!! Temp wise anyway! I'd much rather be detecting where you are! As you know, anywhere here worth detecting has either been destroyed, or is owned by the wealthy! Or both!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…
  21. Thanks for the answer Steve, And yeah it looks "vaguely" familiar! Gee, i wish i could place it!πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…
  22. Hey Steve, i just finished this thread, and think i now have a better grip on the in's and out's of VLF's! Thanks for the direction earlier today! It's been about two and a half years since you started this thread! And about a year and a half since Simon mentioned the Equinox 800 in this respect! Other than what you said today, ( other thread) do you have anything else to add that would change any opinions here? ( Wow, this feels like I'm interviewing you!) 🀣🀣 Thanks!!
  23. So is the Equinox the first to master perfect or near perfect waveform in multi frequency? Or is that also a tradeoff! Power output not withstanding? By the way, its the first cool day in nearly a year here in S. FL, and I'm doing yard work, instead of detecting!! Damn my priorities!!🀬
  24. Ok Steve thanks, So bear with my beginner questions for a minute! Or give me another link for this one! Since the VLF is maxed out depth wise, is it just coil size that dictates depth now, or is it also a proprietary thing between manufacturers?🀯
