  1. My dilemma is not having a dealer within a 2 hour drive, I like to touch and see what I'm buying. So I'm kinda stuck with buying online. I thought about the Orx also but back to the see, touch and hear thing. I guess I have a few hours on youtube to research. I'm trying not to make a hasty discision on the Nox, And I also heard that they might be releasing a new machine? One more question, A lot of people switch to carbon shafts on the Nox is there any advantage to this, other than weight?
  2. Thanks Rob, I thank you for your honesty. I like the MK a lot with the smaller coils, but this 11 is killing me for stability.
  3. I'm having a bout of lack of confidence in my MK. My second 11'' coil today started to act just like my old one. (CRAP)... Short story - Went over an area and hit a high 90's number and broken signal. My buddy with the 800 went over it and dug two silver quarters a 1929 and a 1942. So here's my question to all, Do I get a Nox 800???? I mostly coin and relic hunt, with a beach maybe twice a year. So I want the good the bad and the ugly. honest and true answers on performance, warranty and coil choices. I'm not a big fan of the tones, but I might be able to forgive that for a more stable running machine. Not looking for overly complicated either. I keep hearing that there is a BIG learning curve? Can you run in factory settings and still be happy? or do you have to be a mathematician to learn it? I do not want to carry 50 index cards with setting numbers!!! SO all that own and run one please let me know your thoughts good or bad. Just looking for help before pissing away another $1200+ God help me, I'm running out of excuses for my wife, so you members better give me some good answers.
  4. You might want to polish it up and put it over your Tejon knobs, You know to bring back the good old days. Also might be a trend setter!!!!
  5. I have to dissagree on the curved plate. It is the dial escutchion for a radio, made by Atwater Kent co. Model 96. based out of Philadelphia Pa. A. Atwater Kent also patented the auto ignition coil. He lived in Worcester Mass. in 1881.
  6. I knew you wouldn't let us down Steve, That is a super find. Showing the schematic really helps with how it worked and functioned. Timed fuses have been around for hundreds of years, but I think percussion timed fuses started in the late 1800's. Yours really cleaned up nicely. Thanks for sharing!!!
  7. Hey all, Today I went out for a quick one hour run on a 18th century site. I have found a lot of good things at this place. Yesterday they started to cut a long driveway around the property, so I decided to hit the cut. I found a 70's penny, a 40's golf club head and half a horse shoe. Then there was this chinese coin, the first I have ever found. I tried to google but came up with nothing that matches. The coin is very thin and seems to be copper or an alloy of copper. I was hoping the DP gang could help with a date for this odd little coin. Any clue's or help would be great.
  8. JCR, Welcome to DP. You most likely know this place is great for info and for on and off detectors to regain some enthusiasm for the hobby. That's how I got bitten by the detector bug again. Glad your here and please take a stab at posting your photo's, we all would love to see what you are finding!!!!
  9. Welcome Steve, I would love to see some of those war finds. Glad you joined!!
  10. Between their Covid shutdown and a new war brewing with Armenia they might have some issues. I have a friend in lets say global finance, He say's turkey has some serious problems since the virus. His term was shit show. With all the problems I had with customer service, and yours. I think maybe Nokta might be dealing with a supply chain and employee issue, which explains lack of responses on e-mails. As for Georgia service center. Six days after he had my old coil and a yo did you get my coil e-mail, he said he was sending it back. I asked him what the problem was with the coil and I'm still waiting for him to tell me what it was. I like the MK but I might be moving on.
  11. Kac, mine weighs in at 490g, I'm not having any depth issues at the moment. Maybe the newer 11'' coils are lighter and they just didn't upgrade the spec sheet or maybe the old spec was a typo. maybe the coil is bad like my old one was. I wish i weighed my old one but its to late. Good luck with the next one.
  12. I finally got my old 11'' replaced. This new coil is working great and I couldn't be more happy. Thanks to Dilek all my problems have been resolved. Yesterday and today were the first times I have given it a good run. I decided to hunt a farm house yesterday. I usually think the finds are getting low. Well low and behold I was wrong. Yesterday was good and bad as posted on the coin and relic forum. Today was even better!! same farm plus a kids camp. In two hours at the farm I scored a 2 oz. sinker, a bunch of odd lead, 2 wheat pennies, a girl scout pin from the 60's and two fabulous 1952 and 1957 roosevelt dimes. Around 1:30pm I decided to hit the camp. In another two hours I scored $1.05 in clad (not much) and a very awesome 1810 to 1830's button. inscribed on the back is Treble gilt Standard colour. seems to be a british button. Most of the clad from the 60's and 70's were at 6 to 7 inches deep. this button was around 3''. I did dig a bunch of deep trash always looking for the gold rings. The only thing is the id numbers are a little off, they are a couple of points off, but that was an easy learn. I'm thinking the old coil was bad from day one and today just proved it. I can't wait to hit some more of my sites and see what I missed with the old coil. The MK has yet to let me down and has been a great machine in the short time that I have owned it.
  13. Glad you found out what it was. Now just toss in a new dime of your choice and away you go!!!
  14. No permission yet, but I'll try again. I'm bringing the big jeep next time around!!!
  15. Norm, I use 4 wire marking flags to make a 10x10 square. Just keep moving 2 corner flags to maintain the next box. I find alot of missed stuff that way.
  16. Welcome SG, you picked a great site to start gathering detecting info. please show us some of your finds when you hit the dirt and sand.
  17. I started out the day on a high note by detecting an old farm that I found a Rosie and a merc on a previous outing. First good signals were some 22 casings. I then got into some 1970's pennies and hit a bunch of wheaties, The oldest was a 1919 pretty good I thought. Next up was a kids silver plate bracelet. Was hoping for better but it was not to be. After about 45 min. of trash I stumbled on an odd 1 3/4'' copper piece. This is very unique and I have no clue what it was. Last but not least was a 1943 p nickle, my first of this date. I thought it was an odd silver but seeing the delamination on the surface, my hopes were dashed. This nickel was at the 10'' mark. Now for the bad part !!!! On my way back home I decided to try and get permission for another old farmstead. This property is having a new house built on it and I figured why not. There were some drywall guy's there who did not speak english, so I decided to look at the old barn before I departed. The first sign you are in trouble is when a black cat tears ass out of the barn and almost hits you. I should have realized I was headed for problems. Anyhow I decided to leave, Jumped in my big truck, pulled foward and into a 3 foot ditch I failed to see. After stacking about a ton of stone under my passenger tire I got out. But It will cost me a new bumper $350, Brackets $52, and possibly a new fender $400 + paint. I'm not sure my finds will cover my stupidity!!! My wifes thoughts were, Glad it wasn't me. You would have bitched for days about my bad driving. Sometime's dumb catches up with all of us. Damn Black Cat !!!!!!
  18. Great find Caleb, I wouldn't clean it anymore. Just remember that the patina tells the history of the coin or any other object you find. You will find a great deal of joy in trying to figure out who lost it, or the amount made and by who. The thought of remembering the past is where the value of your finds are. Keep that in mind and all your finds will be GREAT.
  19. Man, I thought I had some iron problems, you got me beat. looks like an old trash can lid with a sprinkle of salt water!!!!
  20. A beautiful looking spoon and in great condition. I'm pretty sure it's made by H.H. Curtis Co. North Attleboro MA. between 1891-1915. It's a truly wonderful find !!!!
  21. I just wanted to pose a question to all DP user's. Who is your detecting Hero, mentor or person who gave you the detecting/prospecting interest???? or you just plain admired for the dedication and promotion of the hobby. This can be anyone who influenced or inspired you to do what we all enjoy so much. Please share your stories about these people for all of us to enjoy. We do not want their legacy to be forgotten!! I would like to start with Jack Gifford of Tesoro, For actualizing Tesoro detectors. His life and endevors are what we all strive to accomplish. A truly great person in so many ways. There are also many contributors on this forum that have helped me become a better more informed detector. GB, Kac, Chase, Joe D, T Vallen, and so many more. I also have to include Mr. Herschbach for creating the best detecting forum on the old interweb. Thanks to all who contribute to this great site.
  22. Welcome to the forum DW, Don't be offended by the ban. Everyone here knows where the good buys are. We all are a good bunch of people who care more about helping each other and promoting the hobby. I hope you do well with your new purchase and can show us some of the finds. Gold is great but we like relic's, coins, ect. Even trash items can be fun. Looking foward to your contributions to this great forum.
  23. I'm happy to wear the Grumpy Crown. Nokta makes awesome detectors, But I feel like a kid two weeks before christmas. I'm hoping for a multi freak Kruzer based detector, But I'll take what I can get. Oh and by the way my wife calls me Grumpy at least twice a week.
  24. Joe, Looks like you had an awesome day out. I wish my spots were that scenic !!! My beach hunting is limited to 3 days a year and about 15 hours total. I have become a master of fish hooks, and other misc. crap. I wish I had the time to properly learn how to hunt a beach. For now I will just live vicariously through you. Good job!!!!!
