  1. Joe, That's awesome!!!!!!! Very unique design, It could be custom made. Looks kind of Art Nouveau, With turquoise and silver it might be kinda rare. I'll try and research it and see what I find.
  2. Super nice Trime!!! At this point I might trade my gold coin for one. These damn things are really hard to come by. I have to live through your Trime find, still hoping I might be part of the club one day. Great day out, looking forward to more.
  3. Glad to have you here. Even though Whites took the dirt nap, does not mean you still can't find great stuff with your still working detectors. I own a few Tesoros and its still a great day out with them. I'll be sad when they won't work anymore, But until then I'll just keep diggin. Looking forward to your posts and finds. Have a great day!!!
  4. Welcome Frank, Nice to have you here. Detecting = finding. Slow and steady will reward you with treasure.
  5. Sorry for the late response folks, But my DP feed seems a little wonky at times. Georgia and Sven there is no visible back mark. I've sent photos of this to every major organization on the planet. Even one's based in the UK, All say not made by us. JCR, I really have no real dirt tests as the ground here was frozen solid. If it works as the good as the air tests, I will be super happy. I'll let you know how it pans out. The weather is just starting to break and I might get a chance to hit the ground this weekend. Sorry again
  6. Great job on the seated and the button!!! I have found a bunch of buttons that I just can't make out myself. It kinda makes you crazy to try and decipher whats left on the button. Nice finds all the way around.
  7. Welcome!!!! Glad your not lurking anymore. It's just easier to ask questions. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your finds and picking up a few tips from you. Just be careful with the other foot, We don't want you to change your name to Scarfeets Ha Ha Seriously, Nice to have you aboard.
  8. Auction mentality!!!!!!!! I used to frequent auctions for woodworking tools and would watch bidders pay 100% more than new prices for a slightly used machine. Seems in the covid era, we are paying a lot more for everything. If your Google savy and shop around you will find some cheaper prices. If you think $61 is bad, you do not want to put an addition on your house. Lumber is almost triple in price here in PA.
  9. Welcome CW, Glad you got back into the game. Still lots of good stuff to be found, or this place wouldn't exist. Finding the sweet spot for your coil shouldn't take to long, Do an above ground test on some misc. items and put a dab O paint on the spot. I do that with all my coils just to keep me focused. We all are looking forward to your finds and input. Hope to hear some of your adventures soon.
  10. That's a keeper!!! Great find, Hope it didn't burn your fingers when you picked it up 🤣😂 Still waiting on the snow shovels, Might be august before I can post a find.
  11. I use a carrot most of the time and only have problems on really small gold or mineralized soil. The only issue I run into is large iron, On high sensitivity it will pinpoint to 15''or deeper. I have 2 carrots and both act differently. Low batteries will sometimes cause some problems. A rule of thumb that I use is to start higher and work my way down on sensitivity, And pay attention to what your detector is telling you first. This will give you some insight as to your target. Trying to disc out trash with a pointer is near impossible, Sometimes you will find multiple targets in your plug that make the pointer go in all directions. I have found 2 and 3 silvers in one hole, So don't depend on the pointer to give you the answer. Double check with the detector, even after you found one good target. All pointers have good and bad qualities, Running down the rabbit hole will cost you some money you don't need to spend (trust me). Unless your trying to find small gold or are hunting salt water, I would stay with the carrot, Its a good pointer.
  12. Do you make Snow shovels ? I'm in need of a couple dozen. 😆🤣😂
  13. WOW, That's a tough one. Pretty neat find, But this one leaves me guessing with the combination of materials. Sorry I do not have a clue.
  14. Welcome EW, Hope you enjoy the site for all it's worth. Plenty of info and great finds on DP. I'm looking forward to your insight and comments.
  15. As William Langland said, Patience is a virtue. And having a good detector doesn't hurt either. Great job on the recovery!!!! That's a super nice ring!!!!
  16. GB gave me a good tip a while back, Use historic aerials to bounce through the time lines on the property. You will see over time when the soil was changed or moved around, Hunt the fringe lines. I bring flags, and place them after the first good target, and continue to place them after each good target. Sometimes you will see a pattern in your finds and you can focus on the pattern edges. Another good idea is to do what I call a trash day. This means dig all the crap from a grid area and later go back and focus on the good stuff. That being said, Sometimes the targets are just to deep. Just go slow and good luck with the spot. Glad your warming up!!
  17. Welcome and glad to have you here, wish you luck in the gold fields.
  18. Welcome Bob!!! I think we all can point you in the right direction. lots of good machines out there. Minelab, Nokta Makro, XP the list goes on. I'm a big fan of Nokta, and and run a multi Kruzer most of the time. Just give us the fine points of what you mainly want to hunt for. Your price point will cover a magnitude of great detectors to help you with your new found hobby. I wish you the best of luck with your decision. Bottom line is I'm just glad that you joined the DP team.
  19. I use surveying flags when I hunt large fields. Once I find the first good target I plant a flag and then go about the job at hand. Marking with numbers also helps map your area if your into trying to trace where the good stuff came to or went. Just come back and pull the flag and dig. Just limit your flags or markers in low visibility areas, So you can keep track of them. Also I read something that said fluorescent green is a better color for the human eye to see.
  20. Well aren't you the Ansel Adams of the detecting world Ha Ha. That's a great photo. I think I see a ring you missed at the bottom right hand of the photo Ha Ha.
  21. So I did a little research and found this. Putting Coins into Circulation The procedures for putting coins into circulation are similar to those for currency. The U.S. Mint produces coins in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco, and ships them to the Federal Reserve Banks and to authorized armored carriers, which supply banks that need coins to meet the public's demand. The distribution of coins differs from that of currency in some respects. First, when the Fed receives currency from the Treasury, it pays only for the cost of printing the notes. However, coins are a direct obligation of the Treasury, so the Reserve Banks pay the Treasury the face value of the coins. Second, large banks in some Federal Reserve Districts participate in a Direct Mint Shipment Program, and receive coins directly from the Mint. In the New York area, there also is an arrangement under which banks that need coins buy them from banks that have a surplus. To promote the arrangement, the New York Fed stands ready to match banks that have excess coins with those that need coins.July 2013 So my guess is some states will get more of a given coin than others based on their need and demand. I never considered myself a coin guy, But somehow GB you always peak my interest in all things coin related. THANKS, I hope this can in a small way give you some more unique info.
  22. If you run hot water over celluloid or rub the stone on your pants real fast to generate a little heat. it should smell like mothballs (kinda). Its a safer way of testing for celluloid. good luck.
  23. Welcome Diggin D, Looking forward to some of your stories, thoughts and of course your finds.
  24. I run mostly 5khz and 14khz say 80% - 20%. The kruzer registers a 27-28 with a solid tone. My buddy who has a nox 800 rarely finds nickels also. Another question about coins is distribution. Say the Philadelphia mint makes 5 million nickles, How do they distribute to each state? and how many coins does each state get? Odd question I know. And like Joe d, I also find your long posts full of good stuff. As for the library thing, Who wants paper cuts when we can find everything here on DP. Keep up the posts on things we all think about, but rarely investigate.
  25. Hard to tell from the photo's but it kinda looks like amber. If your daring heat up a needle to red hot and poke the underside, If it smells like a pine tree its amber. If it smells like plastic you know what you have. Nice find either way!!!
