  1. Quartz, quartzite, hematite and related minerals with some chalcedony possible. I'd not concern myself with it unless you want to burn it out then it'll take a couple of acids. Or just high heat and some sulfuric then chip the small stuff. Not unusual to find things so... more common than not the bigger the piece. Good find.
  2. Welcome back Paul :) Great to see ya had a good time and got some good memories to show for it ! That you did a rental and gave a boost to JP is a good deal and a fine way to kill two birds with one stone, or nugget. For short trips its one of the best plans I've seen to date for Yanks like us ~ and I've seen and heard of some doozies of plans out in WA. Dont know that I'll ever get the pleasure of Clermont but I know folks out that way and it gladdens me to see ya bring some of that place home with ya. Like to address something in your thread Paul. Transport. You've been asked a couple of times about how to get a Zed down under, or any detector, and I can tell everyone here its not that hard unless you try to mail it ahead. The Zed breaks down very well for one large standard luggage bag and even a short pick, some pans and a bunch of other gizmo's. I take one large and one medium bag myself. The bag itself should be fairly ridged with a solid back. Pad it, put in the coil, pad that and wrap the control housing, put in the other bits and fill the bag out to just under 50lbs. Keep the electronics box and battery *s* with you for your carry on. Batteries should be taped over the contacts *the check counter at the airport will want to see that and usually have tape available*. It is advisable to drain the batteries to shut off point if for no other reason than to be safe about it. Other than that there are no drama's. You can even split some stuff between the two bags to reduce lose due to theft or just plain loosing your bags. Remember that most travelers insurance will not cover more than 500 dollars for bags~ another reason to carry the electronics box~ so its cheaper to buy whats lost rather than replace the whole unit. Never lost anything myself. There are a whole bunch of other things I take as well but this is just about the detector. When I carried my GP and all the bits it took both bags and batteries, I used the old Pocket Rocket, I carried or bought an old Humpy *when the rocket died*. I've both shipped back detectors, easy, and carried them back in my bags with no worries. Probably easier to ship the detector back because I've usually a large number of rocks, bottles, and other bits that I just cant pack at the end of a trip.
  3. Depends on the depth of all targets. Usually you can determine that by the depth registered by you VDI to true depth however VDI has its disadvantages and depth is often mis-advertised. My suggestion is to look hard at what the VDI says and make a gut choice. Often targets of desire are laying at a certain level as regards the reading. Use that info to dig. It varies from place to place and that is what many of us look for.
  4. Great to see ya enjoying the hard work :) Patience and persistence.
  5. Adapt it and give it a go. No harm. Well a little... PI coils are made from a different wire type with different insulation requirements as well as a bunch of other LCR stuff. But hey might be intersting. Otherwise a sand bag works for bouyancy. Not shooting your eye out :) just playing with fire. Hehh. Let us know eh?
  6. Seems the site wants to play with script...... \ Nice caravan Fred. vanurs is mistaken your on my patch but I'm ok with that for now Got broad shoulders myself ;) If thats the rig your going to go ruff in I'll add that you may want to put a lift in it. You go trigo placers way it'll help. aumines suggests some good stuff *out Oz way* but USA its helpfull and suggested as well. Cant say how many times mates and myself have had to dig, drop or pound a backend to get thru a wash or creek. Nice nug's btw... hehh :)
  7. Thanks for pointing that out... Its a bit obvious to me now. Hehh, sorry I had a case of bringing my work home with me~ a long argument on paperwork and definitions of how to word things. Got caught in a literary loop Littoraly :) Mind could not make the connections much like an audio cutout.
  8. Hehh :0 The topic: And the query. Is it a Zed? Read the question. Yeah the audio can cut out on the WM12 but thats just keeping it in your pocket or in LOS, Line Of Sight, dont know that the GPX has this capability unless someones adapted it... I'll put my hard hat on just incase someone wants to dump a load of bricks on me....
  9. If you carry alot of metal on you, me I've glasses, switch over to manual GB to make life easier chasing down little nuggets on top of the coil. Nugget scoops are nice *never used one till the Zed* but dinks can be problematic. As Norvic says its an old technique. As to Deep~ used it a bit and my partner and I tested un-dug targets~ it works but mellows out signals quite a bit. Did some search last year in that mode but only got a few bits, fairly shallow and in HY or Gen range, but its greatest use was while things were drying out after rains or in really harsh soils. Norivics test is an eye opener between HY and Gen. HY can, and often does, give complex signals *I call it a treblling like wire* on odd shaped and large bits shallow, say a foot or so, and Gen will often smooth it out. But Gen will also treble on large stuff. My biggest bits last year were found in Gen at 18 and a bit over 36 inches in depth. The shallower, 10gr, trebled while the larger 1oz bit deeper gave a long inverted signal. Gen wont miss to much little stuff either.
  10. Website locks up. Even with that advance, and it looks agreeable you are still limited to surface scan. Ya say you tested it? On what and with what result.
  11. Your running low and slow. This is definite proof that your working it right! Give the bugger a carrot and he'll leave ya alone!!!
  12. Wont worry about big foot as beatup says the critter's friendly. Skeeters and Ticks. What your using will be fine Keep your pants tucked in your boots. Good boots and a good cover for yourself and you detector are more the thought as its wet. Oh and if you see any happy plants, stay out of that patch.
  13. *nods* Definitely have the next shout at the bar with that! Might even have Mathilda winking a dance on the floor with the flash. (cant help it, spewed a rainbow on that)
  14. Uhm, you guys should realize the SXRF technology works on X-rays and as an inherent result only works on surface samples. It does not penetrate very deeply, about 2 microns, and can not give deep survey result. This is why a powdered/pulverized sample is required and the window for sample is very limited *about 2 millimeters* with the sample window Pressed against the sample.... Its very expensive at this point in time to microminiaturize such a device beyond its current limits however its a very precise machine. Read up on it as you can. As a prospectors device it is most prohibitive. I think this device is a small as can be had just now. And probably in the future as well.
  15. Ah lord a Troll. Steve?/? Close this thread please and any subsequent Unless there is some validity. Honestly anyone here can check out Treasure.net and see I post as regularly as possible in the geologic forum. Not enough for validity for my presence or opinion then just cancel any "Rock ID" posts here as there is no foundation or forum of hard rock miners in this net. *no disrespect to other miners/prospectors or what not who know a thing or two about geology*
  16. Hey now no bust on the cleaning :) You dont know what you have in the bucket till you rub it flat out. Seriously just pulling up the turf! WOW KUDOS Dont think I would have advertised that in a Heart Beat! We "scavengers* dont know the least about cool finds. Hahh. *reference to scavengers is related to an achie's paper about detectorists... might find it in another forum ;)* So where's the poison?
  17. *sighs* hold you to your promise. On that rock. Massive quartz, some potential feldspar, ovailne, iron. Junk for prospectors. NOw if for some obtuse reason your pyrite species lend some gold well there might be reason to rejoice. However at this point in time thou is troll and regards to your posts. Nuff said. *(sighs)*
  18. Saw that video a long while ago. Problem comes when you realy dont want to go thru the extra setup otherwise it works well. Hipstick is a great alternative and less set up. My thought. Thanks though.
  19. That is information I like to see :) Thanks Breakofday.
  20. Have not figured out the editor or quote package here.... the belongs in my previous post. DD
  21. Huhh, is there a question to Identity? Is there a question to identity? Have to ask Steve to sort out the IP between a New member and a Silver. Regardless I am surprised no one speaks of the fact that using a Galvanized Dolly is just crap. I'll leave that open to interpretation. Use Black Iron and get a welder to fix it up right. Species in the pot can look real nice and ruff but there's no question as to whats coming out of the dolly when you get it.
