  1. Even when the website came out with the notice they've tried to get out of fixing every detector by saying it's an infrequent problem acting as if it's only rare and on some detectors yet I've not heard a person yet who's had it done that doesn't notice an improvement and many are reporting an improvement even when using headphones. Then they go on to say they've incorporated the fix into every new detector. Minelab has identified infrequent cases where users hear audio feedback when using the internal speaker. Please refer to the product notice on our website by clicking on the link below. https://www.minelab.com/support/product-notices?article=482551 Minelab have produced a hardware update that removes this effect. This update is present in all newly manufactured GPX6000s. In the event you have a production standard without this update and have experienced audio feedback when using the speaker please follow the procedure below in Australia to arrange for this update to be completed on your detector. Please note for maximum performance headphones should be used. Headphone performance is unaffected with this update. From what I can tell, it wasn't an identified problem by ANYONE until many months after release, the first murmurs of the problem were many months after release when some people starting pointing out it appears to be more stable on headphones so it was missed for quite some time I think. Either way, if anyone should have picked up the problem it's the engineers.
  2. The thing that puzzles me about Minelab is they don't seem to do any failure analysis to work out why the problem exists and how to remedy it. The same weak ears transitioned from CTX to Equinox to Vanquish and they were replacing coils over and over again for a decade for people with broken ears yet they did nothing about it until finally the Manticore came along, they knew they were a problem right back on the CTX and even if it is end users breaking them by leaning on detectors and so on they were not near as robust as other brands and I think they only did something about it then as Nokta were giving them a bit of a hard time about the quality of their products without even mentioning any names, but everyone knew who they were talking about as everyone knew Minelab had the problems. The GPX 6000 comes along and now what 2 years later people are still buying them with dodgy coils, at this stage at least so far it doesn't look like they've found the root cause of the problem or they are just doing the same as they did with the coil ears letting the problem ride out, perhaps its cheaper for them to replace coils than it is to fix the problem. The shipping back to the service agent in USA seems quite expensive, here it was $11 for my GPX and insurance was automatically included so no big deal and that turns into about 7USD but you guys pay a lot so it's a real inconvenience sending stuff back to them all the time to repair/replace. You would think the engineers would be desperate to pull apart faulty coils and work out why they're failing so they can adjust manufacturing to prevent further failures, which would be a normal business practice. I really don't understand their way of operating but it sure doesn't give confidence in their products and shows a certain level of contempt to their customers.
  3. I'm surprised the Chinese Cloners never made them, they've duplicated many Whites models before and especially after their demise and the Tesoro's would be such an easy clone for them even with schematics floating around for models to make it even easier yet they never bothered. I guess they just figured they're too outdated to make it worthwhile. I expected when they went bust the cloners would go nuts making them but it never took place. I guess they'll only clone what they think will sell well enough to make it viable and if they can't sell lots of them with their very cheap prices Tesoro had little hope in todays market. Part of that problem being the lifetime warranty, why buy new when a decade old second hand one is still under warranty forever so just as good as new. Great for the customer, terrible for the business unless they're a very innovative business and new models obsolete old models so people want to upgrade, in their case little changed with models so they killed their own business.
  4. When I had trouble pairing mine to my GPX 6000 this was the solution, so worth trying just in case I guess Conducting a factory reset on the speaker will clear all past pairing data and restore the default settings for the product. You may want to reset your speaker if you have trouble pairing it with your devices. Step 1: Turn on the speaker. Push the power switch towards the Power Icon side. You'll hear "Power On," and the speaker will vibrate. Step 2: Reset the Headphones. Press and hold the volume + and - buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds until the LED briefly turns PINK. You'll also hear two "beeps," indicating that the speaker have reset. The speaker should then go into pairing mode and the LED will alternate between flashing RED & BLUE. You are now free to pair the speaker with any device!
  5. I know a guy that bought an Invenio Pro, the detector its based off is very lacking and the technology is not even remotely valid for the price they're asking. In saying that, I applaud them for coming out with something different, albeit very over priced. I don't think they should stop development, but perhaps not release another model until it's ready or dramatically lower the price. Hopefully the imaging turns into something we all want to use someday and becomes a standard feature on detectors.
  6. Best wishes to our friends in Alaska after a rather large earthquake. A more than seven-magnitude earthquake has hit the Alaskan Peninsula this evening. The US National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a warning for some areas of Alaska. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake initially measured as a 7.4 magnitude but was revised to a 7.2. The depth of the earthquake in the largest US state by area was recorded as 32.6km by the USGS. The USGS also reported a 5.7 earthquake followed the larger quake just three minutes later in the same area. The National Weather Service Anchorage warned that “significant inundation is possible or already occurring. Move inland to higher ground.” See more here: https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/2023/07/15/74-earthquake-triggers-tsunami-warning-for-gulf-of-alaska-coastline/
  7. It's more than capable as a prospecting detector, it was a little behind the 800 on small gold prior to the update, after the update it is very much neck and neck, once that little coil comes out it should be pretty good I think. You'd be surprised how well the 11" coil can do on small gold on both the Nox and Manticore so if the M8 doesn't make it in time don't be put off using it, you can find absolutely tiny specs with the 11" coil with the size being the limiting factor getting in between rocks and bushes more so than the sensitivity, yes the smaller coils are more sensitive but the gold they're better on is very tiny. The benefit to the 11" is it's fantastic on bigger deeper gold! When I found this 1.2 grammer I would have been happy with it's depth with my GPX The Equinox and Manticore are a bit unusual in that the bigger coils are still very sensitive to small gold.
  8. The way I see it is eventually they'll find out what's wrong with the manufacturing of the 11" coil and fix it up, in the meantime just keep replacing them until you finally get a good one as the 11" is an outstanding coil when working well. It's pretty incredible how many fail though, and in such a short time many people are on their second or third 11". I once remember someone saying to me that Minelab won't allow aftermarket unapproved coils as they can't assure the quality of them meeting their rigid specifications, now look what's happening to their own coils.
  9. The tips in that are very relevant to New Zealand and I'm sure many other countries too. I like all of the Nordic countries although I didn't even realise they had gold to be found in Finland. Fantastic being able to go to Finland to do this, and I hope it encourages more Finns to take up prospecting and by the sounds of it Garrett has worked out their detectors like the 24k and Axiom are ideal for Suomi conditions. i guess your trip was too short to pop up any gold?
  10. I had some large silver to iron wrap around on my Gold Bug Pro using the Nel Snake coil, It worked fine on all silver coins found here except the very large UK silver half crowns, I adjusted an internal pot in the detector to remedy it, it needed the ever most slightest of turn so I guess this is entirely possible with the Superfly too, I'm not sure if its a problem with the detector or the coil so it could be random detectors have this problem and others don't. Here was the problem. And this was after I fixed it.
  11. Do you think these would work? Only ones I can find locally, cheap as anything though, almost free https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/non-branded-toaster-bag-clear/p/161946 They're clear though so perhaps different.
  12. I've decided I'll get one the next time a second hand one pops up in the price I think is good, the one for sale at the moment isn't ideal as it's not a Pro pack and I'd want the small coil, although a great deal by the time I buy the new small coil the great deal turns into an OK deal so it's best to wait until the next person puts up a Pro Pack, they seem to pop up quite regularly and I'm in no rush as all I really want it for is to try it out, I know it's not going to be as good as my CTX and Manticore for deep silvers, and if it is I'll be shocked as a guy I know who has had all three has already told me otherwise and sold his Legend. The Gold Mode intrigues me as nobody in NZ I know of has used one for gold nuggets so that's worth experimenting with by the sound of it.
  13. I wouldn't have the patience to hunt in your soil. To me it seems like you near need to dig it all or you'll miss so much.
  14. Sad to see Fred go, always chasing the glory hole that never did exist.
  15. Have you tried the Quest on small targets, like small gold nuggets? My reason for asking was I watched this video of my pending new arrival Sphinx pinpointer and the guy compared it to the Quest Pro and the Quest performed very poorly by comparison. I've never found a gold chain, but I believe they're a hard to detect target and the Quest is blind to it, yet the other slams on it. I'm a bit of a pinpointer addict but haven't bought a Quest yet as they so far haven't shown themselves to be any better than others I already have at anything really.
  16. I haven't given the Legend a chance, in fact I've avoided buying it as the Simplex really put me off Nokta VLF's, so many were saying how great it was and I find it terrible, I understand it's a low end detector but so are the detectors I'm comparing it to when I say terrible. A lot of bang for the buck if performance isn't something you care about on deep targets in mild soil unless you don't mind digging everything. Then a friend tried a Gold Finder 2000 and was bitterly disappointed in it's performance compared to the detector it is similar to in many ways, then I bumped into a guy with a Gold Kruzer and had a play with it and was disappointed in it by comparison to the machine I was using at the time when I did some side by side checks. I just don't seem to get along with Nokta VLF's for some reason so all of this combined is why I never gave the Legend a chance. The last but not least thing that's scared me off is just how many of them appear for sale for significant discounts off their original price in the local market, so few detectorists yet so many Legends go up second hand. It's rare a Nox goes for sale even though they were very much the most purchased detector in our market and even now with the new models more Legends pop up for sale than old model Noxes, there is even one for sale now for many hundreds less than the owner paid for it so it's been tempting to buy a second hand one for sure, especially with the many glowing reports by respected people. I'm certainly torn on it 🙂 Nel coils in the future would be enough to sway me I think 😉 I've been desperate for a higher frequency detector with a Nel Snake coil, as now I've only got it on my Gold Bug Pro. Thanks for your report Jeff, you've certainly put the hours in, our conditions couldn't be more different though so that's got me wondering if it's going to be a bit like the Simplex, an under performer in mild soils but more satisfying perhaps in hot soils? I've asked a few people selling them why they're selling and it's always they don't have time to use it or other sorts of excuses that I don't think are the real reason, it's not like they're going to say to a potential buyer they didn't like it.
  17. Well hopefully Minelab America pass the information onto Minelab to be looked at properly as it sounds like another version of the firmware will be on it's way once they work it out.
  18. It's not about the coding language, it's more about the software was written for a certain CPU instruction set which would need rewritten for the new CPU. I wonder how well it would sell if they spent the time, effort and significant costs to do so. I know many people liked the V3i and use one but they're a pretty small amount of people in the grand scheme of things.
  19. Upgrading the processor would require a complete code rewrite so suit the new CPU and hardware, it's not as simple as snapping some fancy new multi core processor on the board and they're good to go. The person/people who wrote it may not even be around anymore or employed by Garrett and if so they may not be well versed in the new languages required for modern hardware. In cases like this sometimes its easier to start again.
  20. Yes, but the LED lights don't cause EMI, the AC to DC conversion process does, the detector doesn't have AC.
  21. Some reading on LED's and EMI https://emcfastpass.com/emi-led-lighting/ Some methods of having LED's in homes is pretty nasty for EMI, especially the down light style converting AC to DC.
  22. Excellent Garrett, only problem is I've never had a faulty Garrett product out of 3 pinpointers and 4 detectors so I doubt I'll be using my new longer warranty.
  23. @jasong suffered the same as I did with both the mocking and the problem affecting his enjoyment of using the detector and I thank him for sticking to his guns and making people aware of the problem. It's all worked out in the end and I hope Jason and I along with others played a small part in forcing their hand to do something about it. I really like the 6000 now, and back then I wanted to wrap it around a tree. I also thank you GotAU for helping sort out the loose shaft issue seeing they've neglected to resolve that one, mines at a point now I'm happy with it due to your methods.
  24. The only thing that bothered me was the cover up and trying to say it's a sensitive detector etc etc etc as the reason for the problem rather than admitting there was a real fault, i was heavily mocked by some individuals far more knowledgeable than me about detectors for complaining about it when I was confident it was not normal behaviour. I guess as more and more people were finding the problem and questioning them about it they had to accept it wasn't such a tiny number of detectors that they could get away with just dismissing and was in fact a widespread issue I believe affecting every GPX 6000 sold until they worked out and resolved the problem. I'm thankful they did it, but I'm disappointed it took so long to accept it was a real problem. The 6000's now everything I hoped it would be.
