  1. Phrunt, I suspect most people ere on the side of too much sensitivity , rather than too little...and having the threshold too low/too high will cause erratic problems too. Quiet your inner voice, pick a defined area and force yourself to work it from at least two directions with the same machine...good luck! fred
  2. A difficult concept to convey... When one is talking they are not listening-even though they can hear the other person talking. Similarly, when one is detecting, if they have a constant internal dialog going they cannot hear the detector talking; and often whispering...you have to pay attention. I rarely have much success when I have other things bouncing around in my head. fred
  3. Very nice gold... I would love to see the Pilabra again....no doubt, my favorite of the places I have been in OZ. I love Australia fred
  4. Not every one gets calluses like Rino skin! Nice gold! fred
  5. Tune those ears, Paul...the faintest signal can be wonderful!!! fred
  6. On my first Oz trip Larry took to a well worked spot. I got a very loud signal under a salt bush. I figured junk but gave it a scrape anyway....a 3/4 oz piece that I expected to be junk right on the surface...my best piece of the trip! You never know until you see it. fred
  7. Hi, Doc; yes, still on Normal Av... I do have the original Swingy and the next one you made-much better support; but warmer... I would love to see your improved version. However, I am not very active at the moment. I will be back to gold hunting when the weather cools...not sure how much or how long. In other words, I doubt you would get your money's worth right now. PS. I know you go to Coronado Beach from time to time...feel free to stop by. Great Story!!! fred
  8. If you have a ctx battery, try that. I would suspect a bad battery. fred
  9. I had carbon fiber on my 3500 and 5000...the weight was not a significant change. Mine was a three piece Herb made special for me, for traveling...unless you use your detector for a weed-wacker I do not see the need... my ha'penny opinion...not worth 2 pennies fred
  10. Norm, this shows your skill....you are too modest, my friend!
  11. just a wild guess; Perhaps part of a change maker. People wore them on a belt. There would be a tube for pennies through quarters...so, this would be a part of the whole thing... fred
  12. Daniel; Holding a piece of the beginning of the Solar System is amazing...that is the attraction for me. Bill Southern has a very active Meteorite Forum... If you read the other posts on this forum you will get a good start. Rocks From Space by O. Richard Norton is an excellent primer. fred
  13. YES, Chris; a report with pictures and gold nuggets!!! Hi Wilma! fred
  14. And just to complicate things; some gold is attracted to a magnet ;especially if it is a speci… fred
