  1. Great report....thanks! Can't wait to get my 600 on Friday ?
  2. .......but I've been having fun getting out for a bit detecting while wintering here on the Treasure Coast of FL. Here's my booty so far lol! The small piece of jewelry with the stone may be very old?....looks handmade. The piece of metal on the key is extremely lightweight and I've found a few odd pieces of it....locals tell me it's stuff off the rocket launches that take place nearby. The other cool find I found on the beach while detecting is this: A really good fossilized ghost crab! He died in his burrow maybe 100,000 years ago, and was replaced by coquina and limestone etc. He's a beauty! I've been using my Sovereign GT and the Xterra 705 down here, but I'll be getting my Equinox 600 on Friday from Gerry! He's even taking my 705 as a partial trade. Now that I'm retired, I am on a budget :-) So the next time we get a big surf or any good erosion, THIS is what I hope to find: Exciting silver Pieces of Eight, found by my new friend/mentor Terry Shannon, a local legend who I ran into on the beach....he swings the Sovereign as well, and has found some amazing stuff. The greenish 2nd piece from the top is a recent find after the January erosion up by the dunes, in its natural state as he found it. Over 300 years old.... 11 Spanish ships went down during a hurricane off our shores in 1715. So wish me luck folks! ?
  3. Great report and pics, Doc! And congrats on that sweet nugget! :-)
  4. What a day! Glad you got your wheels fixed and a very nice nugget too!
  5. Hi Steve...he used the Zed. I think the Monster's coils are 5" and elliptical 10". :-)
  6. Congrats! That is a very respectable piece of the good stuff! ?
  7. Really enjoyed the videos Tom.....thanks! Hey, did you ever have that slug from your Idaho hunt tested? Brass vs gold vs copper vs slag?
  8. I'm in Melbourne Beach....love it there! Couldn't find your pic on the surfguru site. Any good finds lately? I'm a Newbie at beach detecting, a lot different than my nugget hunting here out west. It'll be fun to get out and hit the beaches with MontAmmie! Maybe we can all meet up sometime. :-)
  9. One more month and I'll be there hunting too! The surf has looked really rough on the Sebastian Inlet webcam. :-)
  10. Great job! That's some really nice gold :-)
  11. Nice gold, Rick! Too cold for me there recently...my toy hauler is in the shop, and sleeping in my uninsulated cargo trailer doesn't sound like fun when it dips into the teens/20's at night....brrrr!
  12. Took a break from chores and getting the cabin ready for winter, and got a couple afternoon sessions in with the Monster. Went to a decomposing granite knob I first hit a couple summers ago, digging along the edges and got a few. Then I removed some sagebrush and exposed a couple crevices where I scraped out little guys like this: The other deeper crevice was really fun! Ended up with just a tad over a gram for 2 afternoons of playing. Worth MUCH more in fun! :-) Will be getting snow soon, so not many more days to get out!
  13. Very nice! Someday I want to try dredging....some places here in Idaho worth doing. :-)
  14. Congratulations Chris! How cool....thanks for sharing the dig and excitement! Love it!
  15. Wow! Now that's a speci! Congrats......looking forward to your future posts! :-)
  16. Great detecting Rick! It's amazing how you can always pull nice gold out of there!
  17. I agree, Mxt Sniper, I worked on getting my toys and camping gear etc several years before retiring....wanted everything paid for so money could go towards trips etc. With no big bills, it's amazing how little you really need to live on lol! I'm so glad I retired when I did! SteveJJ, if you want to start cheap and will be going where there's small gold a used Goldbug2 sounds good, but if can spend a bit more I'd get the Monster. And Gerry's training is great...he got me started in this fun hobby. ( Hey, I have 2 neglected GB2s sulking in my shed since I got the Monster....I'd give you a great deal to help you get started :-) If you will be hitting the SW and other gold areas once retired, you'll definitely want to look into a PI or even a used 7000....but that's some serious $ for sure. Good luck with your "pre-freedom" plans!
  18. I apparently have way too much time on my hands lol! ?
