Indiana Gold Nugget, Tiny But...

Recommended Posts

I almost threw out this tiny gold nugget while panning cons, thought it was a trash rock, but it caught my eye for some reason.Held it up close to eyeball and it was golden metallic yellow, NOT sand, and bounces an inch when dropped in my gold pan. I got it sluicing gravels with my home made electric 18 inch long sluice/banker, like 10 feet from the creek where I found a gold gravel deposit with my map dowsing . About the size of 2 pinheads side by side, dime for comparison, casts a shadow in gold pan...  came from central Indiana near Attica....

Looks like a couple of smaller pieces in the pan also.

I am going to have to get you here where I am at when I am off work next time, then we can see the gold in the pan better.

Nice catch of the speck of gold and keep up the hard work.

That's great finding gold there. It's said that all states have gold. It's not worth while in a lot of states to try and find it though.

I know that in Illinois and Indiana there is more gold than what people realize. The problem is finding a great spot to be able to dig it out of the ground and not get into trouble with our laws.

Here in Illinois I have always been able to find a couple of ounces each year panning and sluicing the creeks.

Just have to find the right spot and then your set for some fun.

My biggest piece panning in western  n.y.is 1.3 grains.I also have  found a .6 grain piece and a  couple .5 grain pieces. One guy in a creek about 7 miles from where I panned  found a 1.6 gram piece with a dredge.I met a geologist from Buffalo who found a nice piece near there that he kept in his wallet.  He found it by sifting a glacier   deposit.
