It's going to rain here all weekend, it went up in the 60s today so I hit the new permission. There is a road that separates two fields, one side has 18/1900s relics and coins, the other is mostly 16/1700s. It really is that different! I did dig a Brown Bess buttplate on the newer side, and gave it to the landowner when he dropped by.20211231_092009.thumb.jpg.cf8c0e47c662f777c6c46658e80eb277.jpg

Not sure what the notch was for.

I had a guest digging with me, and we went to the older side, even tried the "green" area but it was so muddy we went back to the bean field. You can see the difference in this photo:20211228_130449.thumb.jpg.9a204dfae310e25b536c55f5f0a9ac52.jpg

Here's what I dug today, hopefully my guest will post his finds at some point, we both found a few buttons each.20211231_202050.thumb.jpg.982f089290e2b74e7806b1a6cddf09ea.jpg

I dug 5 today, one that was backmarked "GILT" with a wreath, the top part of a two piece, another flat one with "TREBLE GILT STD COLOUR", and a small round button with a shank. The 5th is on the right, I found it in the newer field. It's a small military service button.20211231_202143.thumb.jpg.43ff43700d454600339d3f66745d03ab.jpg

For coins there was a 1910 and 1944 wheat, and an 1899 IHP.

Next row is a very old hinge that puts the early in early American, a D buckle and the other half of the locket I found the last time.20211231_203752.thumb.jpg.5a0161e9460583657aaa5ce99a72128b.jpg

The last piece appears to be part of a pewter horse, it was tough to figure out. Bottom is a thin gear, smallest rivet that ever gave me a 26 ID, and a buckle fragment. Trash wasn't too bad, in the older field when you get a good ID it's more likely to be something good.20211231_213627.thumb.jpg.0656c260d6c25e43fd8a98ec258b1104.jpg

Can't wait for 2022! 😀 Happy new year!

Thanks. Just added a picture of the house, part of it was built in the 1700s. We managed to find one of the better "hot spots" today.

Love the flat buttons!

Thanks, takes me back to a year ago when I was finding them right in front of my house 🤣 it's all winter wheat now. This place is a whole mile or two away.

They get pretty beat up here. Lots of corrosion.

Excellent end to the year! Thanks for taking us along on your saving Virginia history hunt again.

Many more to come. I have a lot of area to search here, the "green" side was way too muddy. The landowner has let other detectorists dig around the house but not in the yard. I don't think anyone has been in this field or the newer one, they probably didn't think anything was there. 😈

If you like what I dug you should see the other guy... 😉

Lots of history where I live, but 95% of it's under asphalt.    How far away are the Colonial era cellar holes?  That's what I'm dying to detect one day back east 🙂

You'll have to go north of the Mason Dixon line, here they don't do cellars. 😀 You might see one with an "English basement", but that's it. Lots of flooding and the water table is really high.
