How Strong A Magnet For Pick

I just replaced the handle on my Apex pick and am thinking of adding a magnet to the end of the handle. The handle is a 1" x 1 1/2". Oval

What size and strength of magnet would i be looking for?

Hight strength cow magnet should do the trick. Drill a hole n epoxy it in.

One that will latch onto a horseshoe and not let go will do the trick.

I have used a magnet that will pick up the same weight as my pick, then I make sure that it is about a 1/4 inch below the head of the pick. Epoxy it in and go to work with it.

I found that having one that is to strong makes for a hard time to clean off the material stuck to the head of the pick. Had one that would pick up 35 pounds in a pick before and I think it is still hanging on the side of a metal shelf head first. Good luck on your choice.

If you use a super magnet it needs to have it exposed surface flush with your pick so that it can be cleared with one wipe with your hand. I managed this by using car bog filler and/or selleys-knead-it multipurpose-epoxy

20-30 lb. Pull will work well. If you can get a 40-50 lb magnet in a smaller size get it. I use a 30lb. Pull magnet and it works just fine

The stronger the better.  be sure to get the coated ones as rare earth super magnets seem to easily chip, crack and or break.
